The Captain's Cabin — aboard the historic vessel Reussi

Some places have a history you can feel. The Reussi is one of them. This beautifully restored historic ship has been transformed — with passion, craftsmanship and an eye for detail — into one of Amsterdam's most extraordinary places to stay. The Captain's Cabin occupies the aft of the vessel: the very quarters where a captain once lived with his family, now reimagined as a refined private suite that blends maritime heritage with contemporary luxury.

The Space
The suite is entirely self-contained, with its own living room, bedroom, bathroom with shower and sauna, and a private rooftop deck that offers sweeping panoramic views over the canal and the surrounding historic architecture. Above it all sits the original wheelhouse — a nod to the ship's storied past, and a vantage point unlike anything you'll find in a hotel.
The bedroom is dressed in fine linens, the bathroom finished with care, and every corner of the space reflects the taste and warmth of the couple who created it. Gerben — a maritime school graduate with a lifelong love of ships and Amsterdam's history — led the renovation of the Reussi himself, restoring her to her former glory. His fiancée Rodinde brought her eye for elegance to every interior detail: the soft textures, the considered finishing touches, the feeling that nothing here is accidental.
Coffee, tea, bed linen and towels are all included. The only thing left to do is sit back on your private deck and watch Amsterdam drift gently past.

The Location
The Reussi is moored on the Kalkmarkt — one of Amsterdam's widest and most scenic canals — in the historic heart of the city, just minutes from Centraal Station. You're within easy walking distance of world-class restaurants, museums, boutique shops and some of the city's finest hidden gems, yet on board, the only sound is the quiet pull of the water.

Getting Here
The ship is located at Kalkmarkt 16 in the historic centre. Access is through a private gate and a broad quayside stairway onto the deck, leading directly to the suite entrance in the wheelhouse.

Due to a slight mixup with our booking we actually stayed in the Sailors Suite. The owner was very accomodating rearranging our booking. We had a wonderful stay in very unique accomodation. The facilities were exceptional and the cabin was well appointed and spotlessly clean.The area was well located for our needs. I highly recommend this property

This is an excellent place. We loved everything about it. The host was very responsive and friendly once we arrived. The boat is stocked with the necessities and even has a sauna! It is in an excellent location to walk to shops and restaurants, to catch public transportation, or rent bikes. We loved having a drink on the deck in the evening and watching the boats go by on the canal.

I cannot recommend this listing enough. They thought of everything you could want inside the house, the location is fantastic and the communication was seamless. You should definitely rent the Captains Cabin if you are even partially thinking about it. Just do it!

Total Dream Boat

Do not hesitate to book your stay here! The boat is beautifully renovated, has an incredibly comfortable bed, and, most importantly, is hosted by the loveliest family you'll meet in Amsterdam. From the day I arrived, I felt graciously welcomed with a warm authenticity that is hard to come by these days. The location is incredible. So close to city center (10 minute walk from Centraal Station) and yet when you return home, it feels like a quiet oasis away from the hubbub of the city. There are lovely patio chairs to sit out and relax as you gaze across the canal. Gerben and Rodinde are ready to provide you with any recommendations or information you might need. It is truly a magical place to stay, and I can't wait to return!

Exceeded expectations in every way

Where to start??? Gerben (and Rodinde) was the ultimate host, the houseboat was incredible, and the location was exceptional. We didn't know what to expect since the property was brand new to VRBO, so you can imagine our surprise and delight that EVERY detail had been thought through. From heated floors to plenty of kitchenware to a lighted mirror in the bathroom (not to mention the fancy Japanese toilet and sauna!), we felt very pampered. For my daughter and me, it was the perfect place to spend a few days and decompress after she returned from Semester at Sea. We had the best time sitting on the deck and waving to boat tours going by! We were also surprised how quiet the neighborhood was despite its proximity to the train station and the heart of the city. We are so grateful to Gerben and Rodinde for helping us create such beautiful memories and will absolutely return one day!

We liked the “experience”. It’s a boat so not recommended if you have mobility issues. Steep stairs and narrow walkways from the street to the boat. then ladder-like stairs inside the boat. The shower is bigger than expected and the sauna was a bonus. It’s hard to find places with king size bed; that’s one of the reasons we picked this one. Towels and linens were nice quality and I personally like it when a place offers bathrobes. We used the washer dryer. Once we figured it out (in Dutch). We enjoyed watching the boat cruises. The location was not in city center so I think it’s more quiet than other houseboats on the canal. We did a lot of walking. it seemed to be at least a 15-20 walk to places we went to. We took Ubers a few times.

Amsterdam is een nieuw juweel rijker! Deze B&B combineert moeiteloos elegantie met comfort. De aandacht voor detail in de inrichting en service was opmerkelijk. Heerlijk centraal gelegen met alles op loopafstand. De tips van de gastheer voor lokale bezienswaardigheden waren spot-on. Gerben grew up with a deep fascination for ships and the sea. After training at maritime school in his younger years, that love never left him. When the Reussi came into his life — a weathered, characterful historic vessel with extraordinary bones — he knew exactly what he wanted to do with her. He led the full renovation himself, restoring her structure, her soul and her seafaring dignity, deck by deck and beam by beam.
Rodinde brought something equally essential: an eye for beauty, a love of elegant detail and an endless dedication to making every corner of the Reussi feel as warm as it looks. From the texture of the linens to the light in the living room, her touch is everywhere.
Together, we've created something we're genuinely proud of — and we love sharing it. Hosting, for us, isn't a business transaction. It's an invitation. We want you to feel at home on the water, in one of the world's most beautiful cities, aboard a ship with a story worth telling.

The Kalkmarkt is one of Amsterdam's widest and most quietly magnificent canals — and in our view, one of the most underrated addresses in the entire city. It sits right at the edge of the historic centre, where the old trading heart of Amsterdam once pulsed with ships arriving from every corner of the world. Mooring the Reussi here felt right from the very first day.
What we love most is the balance this location offers. You're genuinely central — Dam Square, the waterfront, Centraal Station and some of the city's finest restaurants and museums are all within easy walking distance. And yet, standing on the deck of the Reussi, the canal feels calm, wide and unhurried. The classic canal houses line the quay, boats drift past at their own pace, and the city reveals itself gently rather than all at once.
For us, this is Amsterdam at its most authentic: lived-in, layered with history, and still quietly stunning after all these years. We wouldn't moor her anywhere else.
