Ceret is well situated as there is easy access to the long, sandy French Mediterranean beaches, with beach bars and restaurants and all types of water sports. Alternatively you can drive over the border and visit the sandy coves and white-washed resorts of the Costa Brava. Inland the countryside is beautiful with walking and riding in the mountain ranges, plus olive groves and cherry orchards.
Ceret is a lively town and everyone comes into the centre of town on a Saturday morning for the market where there is a breathtaking display of local produce . Depending on the season, taste the cherries, nectarines, apricots and melons.
At the end of May there is a cherry harvest festival. The main festival is in mid July when there is much dancing and drinking. There is a well known Museum of Modern Art in the centre of town, with work by the Fauvists, Cubists and Surrealists. On Tuesday evening during the summer season there is a craft market .
