Cosy Beach House on the Seafront, Porthleven
Summary:
If you’re looking for a quiet corner of Cornwall, where you can hear the sound of waves from your bed and drink tea from your sun-drenched terrace, this is the place for you. From the entrance, Mariners looks like a charming little beach bungalow. But, step through the doors into two spacious floors of complete calm and serenity. With views from almost every room, moments from the water’s edge, and a crackling fire for those cosy nights. This is coastal Cornwall at its best!
The Space:
As featured in Tat London's Best Airbnb's for Summer, Mariners is part of a connected pair of old fishermen’s cottages, which underwent a stunning refurbishment in 2023. Spanning over two floors, there’s ample space for four to sleep across two homely bedrooms. On the entrance level is the elegant open-plan kitchen, dining and living room which has uninterrupted sea views. Rustle up delicious home-cooked feasts in the well-stocked kitchen before tucking in at the sophisticated dining room set-up. On chilly nights, nothing beats throwing a log on the fire and curling up with a board game or a good book on the sofa. In summer, fling open the sliding doors and enjoy a wine on the terrace at sunset whilst the sun fades away. Tasteful interior touches finish off a space that’s totally serene and comforting.
Head downstairs to the sleeping quarters and find two beautiful bedrooms all finished off to a hotel standard. The master with king size bed boasts sliding double doors that allow light to cascade in - it’s the perfect spot for a morning cup of tea with a sea view. Meanwhile, the open plan ensuite has a modern wet room shower, illuminated mirror and freestanding stone bath. Next door, find the second bedroom which has zip and link beds which can be made into two single or a super-king. The family bathroom benefits from an enclosed shower, illuminated mirror and countertop stone basin.
You only need to take a few steps to arrive at the seafront, where you can dip your toes in the water or go paddle boarding when it’s calm. Meanwhile, walkers can set off on the coastal path straight from the back terrace - it’s hard to find a holiday cottage this ideal.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the whole house and two terraces.
The Neighborhood:
Mariners is located on the edge of Porthleven Beach and around a 10-minute walk to the centre of Porthleven town. Once a sanctuary for stranded seamen, today it is the most southerly working port in the UK. Come for some of the best food in all of Cornwall - Michael Caines has a restaurant here. Seafood lovers will be in total heaven at The Mussel Shoal, a kiosk on the quay. The real fun part is that diners can book to be taken out to eat on their very own pontoon! In summer, the whole town is taken over by a free three-day food festival where the streets are lined with fragrant stalls and the pubs sprawling with happy punters. In under a 20-minute drive, you will find the wonderful Flora at New Yard restaurant, this is the crème de la crème of Cornish cuisine.
Aside from its culinary offering, this picturesque boat-filled harbour is brilliant for nature lovers too. It’s possible to surf at the town’s beaches, but with some of the most testing waves in Cornwall, beginners may like to try the nearby Praa Sands instead. Walkers can enjoy hikes straight from the front door, taking off in either direction along the renowned South West Coast Path. Head one way and you’ll enter the magnificent Lizard Peninsula (which boasts some of the region’s best and quietest beaches). Meanwhile, the other way takes you to Rinsey and onto Praa Sands - which is fabulous all year round. There’s so much to do and see in this corner of Cornwall and we’ve shared more of our local tips and tricks in our Guest Guide - available upon booking.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Cornwall, we would recommend bringing a vehicle for your stay. That said, Mariners is in a prime waterfront location which is moments away from Porthleven beach. It's also a 10-minute walk to the centre of Porthleven - so there's no need to use a car to get around here! One car parking space is available immediately outside the house on a private recess.

Other Things to Note:
Please note our parking space available is suitable for a large car but is not big enough for a van. There is on street parking available on Loe Bar Road for Vans. Many thanks.
