No AC as promised
While the condo was clean, neat and well-stocked, my experience was far from reaching my expectations. I researched condos for months looking for ones that provided AC. There were plenty of options, but this condo was my final choice. Upon arrival, I noted that the AC thermostat was "stuck" on 90 degrees, with the "down" button not working. I reached out instantly to the owners, as well as their emergency contact numbers. It was the next day before I received a response from them. While they sent the AC guy to look at it the next day, he replaced the thermostat and left. The AC remained at 86 degrees. I reached out again, and had to stay home from my job for the second day (I work on the island 2 months per year) to wait for the AC tech. He informed me that the AC was completed broken, parts would need to be ordered from the mainland, and he had no idea when he would be able to fix the AC. He also shared that the unit had not been taken well care of, and that the filter had not been replaced in over 1 1/2 years. I remained without AC throughout the duration of my stay (20 days). While the owners refunded the fee I paid for AC, the condo stayed between 80 to 86 degrees the entire time. I was miserably hot, and of course very upset as there were plenty of other options that did have AC. Yet, here I was, stuck. I almost requested my money back to move to another suitable condo. The housecleaner told me also that she had informed the condo owners that the AC was broken earlier.
I do not feel the homeowners should advertise their property as Air conditioned if they are not taking care of it, replacing filters/having it serviced routinely or heeding warnings from those informing them that AC is not working. This is fraudulent in my opinion. I would have never even looked at this condo without AC, much less rented it. In the end, I was stuck and had to tough it out. No communication ensued from the homeowners regarding the status of the AC, and I had to reach out to them to see if there would be any relief. There was not even an alternative offered (i.e., like refunding for buying a fan so I would not burn up in the heat).
I was very disappointed in the homeowners and the conditions I had to "live in for 20 days".
