A harsh score in my opinion. What guest failed to mention was that, following his complaint about the temps, I gave him a refund of the first night’s stay as a goodwill gesture. I had been at the villa the previous week and had air-con set to cool due to outside temperatures being in the 70s. Guest arrived early hours of 8 Dec so it did probably appear on the cool side, however, I disagree with the fact that the temps were near zero. The min outside temp on that day was 52˚F with highs of 76˚F. I received an email on 8 Dec at 16:48 (UK)/11:48 (US) time saying that house was cold and I responded at 18.53 UK (13.53 US) to say I had switched thermostat to heat and they have the ability to adjust between 65˚F & 74˚F by turning the dial on the outside of the google thermostat. Looking at the Thermostat history the temps were not adjusted too much so the thermostat would have ran with the pre-set heat schedule (ranging from 66˚F to 69˚F). There are instructions in the Information Pack (sent to the guest twice) and in the House Guest Directory to explain how the thermostat works. As for the pool heat complaint this review comment is the first I am hearing about it, so clearly not enough of an issue to mention during their stay. Also means I had no opportunity to check water temps at the time.

I am extremely disappointed to receive a 1 star rating for my home-it is a harsh score in my opinion. There are a couple of issues mentioned that I was not made aware of during the guest’s stay which is unfortunate and a little unfair as I was unable to address the concerns during their visit. I was made aware that the internet was not working at 10pm (UK time) on 13/12 and at that time I checked my Google Thermostat and could see that it was still online (which indicates to me that the Wi-Fi was working). I asked ‘What exactly about the Internet was not working for them?’ and got no response. There are 2 Smart TVs in the house and if the Wi-Fi did drop out this could affect the ability to watch TV, however, there are 3 other TVs (one of which is in the Living Room) which are connected to Cable boxes and would still be available to watch. With regard to Pool Heat I had previously advised that the pool can take up to 24 hrs to reach maximum temperatures; the guest requested pool heat the evening before their arrival. The day after arrival (after 10pm UK time) they advised that the pool was cold and they could not get hold of the management company (MC). The following morning (8am UK time) I advised them to leave a message for the MC and they would call back, but also advised that I had emailed the MC myself to ask them to check that the pool and internet. On that same day my MC confirmed that they had been to the property - internet and pool heat were working fine. I received no further messages from the guest after my 8am message and assumed that everything was in order! I would also add that I have an in-ground Spa not a standalone hot tub and I do not believe that the same temperatures can be achieved. Also, the outside air temperature can have a significant effect on the water temperatures as heat pumps use heat from the air to warm the swimming pool or spa. I understand that Florida had some lower than average temperatures in December which would have had an impact on the water temperatures and is completely outside of my control. The Google Thermostat is locked to prevent guests from tampering with the temperatures/schedules (which is a standard feature of many vacation homes) however, you have the ability to change the temperatures within a 5 degree range. It also states in the booking conditions/information pack that you can request the owner or MC to make changes to the temperatures, if required. No such request was received.
