Welcome to Our Pet Friendly "Treehouse'' in Historic Southport, NC
Come experience the charm, comfort, and history of Southport in this unique three story home, lovingly known as "The Treehouse." Built in 1948 during Southport's World War II growth period, the house was originally designed as a two story residence. The third-level suite was added later, creating a peaceful retreat nestled among beautiful, mature oak trees.
A Special Connection To History
The Treehouse carries a meaningful link to local maritime history. Some of the bricks used in its construction came from the historic Price's Creek "Lighthouse", which can still be seen today while traveling on the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry. Built in 1849-1850 along the Cape Fear River, this structure once served as a river navigation light, guiding ships safely toward Wilmington NC.
During the Civil War, the lights were used as a signal station between Fort Fisher and Fort Caswell, and to assist blockade runners. After the war, the site was abandoned, and over time, some local families salvaged bricks from the ruins for use in nearby homes- including this one.
Thoughtful Design from a Bygone Era
You may notice there is no bedroom or bathroom on the first level. This reflects traditional home design in 1948, when bedrooms were typically located upstairs and bathrooms were placed nearby. The main floor was intended for gathering, dining, and daily living. Building materials were limited at this time, so homes were designed to be efficient, practical, and affordable.
Today, this layout gives the Treehouse its distinctive character and historic charm
