The Best Bargain in Surfside!

This beach house has been in our famiy since the early 1970's, as children we spent almost every weekend and Summer here. We would comb the beach for shells and hermit crabs which is how the name "Beachcomber" was born.

We occasionally rent our home to share it with other beach lovers and try to keep our prices affordable and your expectations realistic so that everyone is on the same page.
This is not a new or fancy home - heating is provided by space heater and A/C is provided by window units. We provide excellent hi-speed internet and a designated office type area in case you have to check in with your office occasionally.

We provide linens on the beds and a few bath towels but beach towels and extra bath towels are not included. We start you out with one roll of paper towels and tp, 3 trash bags, and some hand towels for the kitchen. You are welcome to use any additonal items in the house or leave extra that you brought with you for other guests to use.
We just ask that you respect our home and keep it clean so that we can continue to share our home with you and others.

We are in the perfect location because on one end of our street is the beach and at the other end is Kitty's Purple Cow. (We are in the middle of the block/street) We have a nice breeze and view of the ocean from our huge covered outside deck and the beach is only half a block (maybe 100 yards) away. It's a super close walk.

Our home can sleep four people and is great fit for a 2 person getaway weekend, grandparents taking their grand baby on a special trip to the beach, or small families with only one or two children. There is only one "bedroom" that is enclosed with a door, the other sleeping area in the open part of the house that has a privacy curtain so guests can change or privacy to sleep. Washer dryer combo is super small - we put it in for the long term renters that stay in the winter but you can only use for a few items at a time.

Sorry but we do not rent to anyone under 25 years old, are not available for proms, and/or any parties. As we said earlier - this is actually our vacation home that we use and enjoy. We don't want our neighbors disturbed so please keep noise in the evening to a minimum. We love to share our home with others, have met so many wonderful people, and made long lasting friendships with many of you.

Great view!

Host responded quickly once booking was completed on the VRBO website. The check-in instructions were easy to follow and the property was very clean and exactly as pictured in the listing! Will definitely book this property again in the future! Thanks for a great weekend on the beach!

Everything described in the listing is accurate; walking to the beach was just down the street. I enjoyed sitting on the deck and listening to the waves crash. The owners thought of everything that would be needed, including drinkable water. I will be back!

Exceeded expectations

The house looked great in the pictures and when I walked in I was happily impressed with it! I discovered an issue with the shower (minor but required attention as it could have caused damage to her property) as I walked through to inspect. Abbey, the owner, responded immediately to my text with an apology, saying it would be corrected the next morning, as well as offering to upgrade us to her other place next door. Both homes were in excellent condition, clean, fully supplied and absolutely comfortable in all ways. The location was exactly what I was looking for, driving access to the beach and a restaurant within a couple minutes walk! I will keep this place saved in my favorites for sure.

Nice little cottage

Great proximity to the beach and 3 restaurants! The house was nice and clean. View from deck was nice. We really enjoyed our stay although the weather wasn’t too cooperative. Information wasn’t updated about check in and keys and I was panicking a bit. But neighbors came over and figured it out for us. Abbey was very nice to answer all my questions. I would stay here again if we come back to this area.

Great house, Great time, Great owners

My wife and I stayed there with our 2 grandsons. This cabin was perfect for our needs. The property was exactly as described by the owners. The owners are gracious and very kind. We had a personal issue and they went above and beyond to assist us and afford us the opportunity for a wonderful vacation. I loved sitting on the deck in the early morning with a cup of coffee while quietly watching the surf and sun rise. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. I had no reservations about leaving our gear unattended in the driveway. We have recommended this property to friends and will certainly return for our next gulf visit.

Lovely Quiet Place to Stay

The listing was pretty accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc. This was a quiet area and a very relaxing atmosphere. The yard and extra lots were mowed and very neat and clean, as was the house. The deck was inviting and there was always a breeze. Bring bug spray because early in the morning and after sunset the mosquitoes will be biting. We loved sitting on the deck sipping our coffee and watching the sunrise. The owner was very accomodating and very friendly. I would recommend this beach house to a friend or relative. Really the only thing I would suggest is some new mattresses for the beds because the ones on both of the beds are worn out and very uncomfortable. Also, a little bit more powerful vacuum cleaner would help get the sand off of the rugs a lot better. I was having a hard time getting the floors clean with the vacuum that was there. We spent a lot of time on the jetties fishing and on the beach swimming and surf fishing. We went to Sea Center Texas, which was only about 15 miles away and was really fun. We enjoyed that a lot. We also ate at the Edgewater Grill and the food was fantastic!

The house was less than we expected .... more of a fish camp than a family beach house in our opinion. The deck wasn't covered and since it rained while we were there, we were restricted to stay inside a lot. The inside doesn't seem very "beachy"....everything is dark brown. Even though the house is small - brightening it up would make it look and feel larger and more inviting. The bathroom vanity wasn't clean when we arrived - there was a layer of sand left from the previous occupants. Although we won't rent this property again - the beach toys were a plus and the owners were very kind and helpful.

The house is in a great spot, less than a two minute walk to the beach. We were pretty happy with the house. The hot water was great. Four people and we could shower one right after the other without waiting. Just wish there was at least a clothes dryer for the wet swim suites.

Our stay at the Beachcomber was not pleasant. The house is not rustic as stated, it is run-down and needs maintenance, repair, replacements and a thorough cleaning. The front door is difficult to open due to the keyed doorknob being worn and barely functional. The door trim is loose and flops about when the door is used. The outside steps up to the house are rotting and may be a safety hazard. Inside, beyond a basic vacuum, dirt is apparent everywhere. We were not comfortable using the kitchen except the coffee maker & toaster. The window A/C units function but are old, noisy and rusted on sagging outside supports. Furniture and beds are old and the addition of thick foam bed pieces only made them uncomfortable. The windows and sills have not been cleaned in a long time and several had lost their seal so dirt obstructs view. The sinks and shower fixtures are loose. The area under the house is an eyesore. We considered leaving, but the nice weather made us “tough it out”. The recent reviewer who said “The home is in bad condition and badly needs updating and cleaning” was not being “mean” as the owner stated. Our review conclusion is similar and is intended to be an objective review. The house is in a great location near the beach, is close to restaurants and could be a gem. Instead it’s neglected.

Wow! Great cozy vacation get-a-way at Surfside beach!!

Adorable beach house so close to the beach you can walk there! or walk in opposite direction and eat at the infamous Kitty's Purple Cow restaurant, that is ready to serve you in a great casual atmosphere. This place is nice clean and cool. My husband and I spent our honeymoon in this romantic get away and just returned for the weekend for our fifth anniversary! I have also taken my teenage nephews with my friend and her children and there was plenty of room for everyone to sleep in this place and also relax on the large deck to take in the ocean breeze! I give this sweet place two thumbs up!!!

Relaxing time, always!

My partner and I have stayed at this quaint beachhouse about 4 times. It is our favorite beachouse to visit. The house is not right on the beach, but has a great view from the porch, or with the door open. It, for us, is actually better, because, when the beach is busy, it is still quite peaceful. It feels like a home, instead of a rental. The family that owns it is always polite, accommodating and available for any questions. The kitchen has updated appliances and plenty of space to prepare food and a nice size dining table for the friends and us to sit and have an intimate meal. If you afeter not into cooking, there are 3 or 4 places in walking distance. The beach is so much cleaner than the rest of the public beaches, even Galveston. They truck in dirt, from what I can tell. The neighbors and other beachgoers are always friendly. We enjoy staying during he off season, which provides for an almost private beach! We look forward to staying many more times! Give it a try and you will enjoy it, alone, as a couple, a small family ...or even a girls weekend out!

Great place for the price!

Have stayed here before, and it's just right for us, a semi retired couple who loves Surfside Beach! Abbey is wonderful to work with! Within walking distance to several restaurants we like. This house is an older beach house that has weathered the storms. Comfortable beds, kitchen with everything you need, covered deck where you can see the waves (less than a short block to the water) and most everything you would need to enjoy the beach. The beach was clean & beautiful with fluffy sand (no seaweed) but it was cold. The heaters provided enough heat, but the hot water would run out after a 1 person shower, but not like that when it's warmer. We will be back, hopefully this summer...

Repeat Guest

My family has stayed at the Beachcomber two summers in a row. We love it! Short walk to the beach and restaurants. The house is well stocked and comfortable. Everything you need is there including beach toys. Plenty of places to sleep and just sit around and visit. The huge covered deck is really awesome. I think my family actually spends more time on the deck than in the house! The owner also owns the 2 lots next door and those 2 lots do not have houses on them. Therefore, when you are out on the deck relaxing you're not just looking at the side of another beach house. There is actually "room to breath" and it allows for a better view. We will be enjoying the Beachcomber again this summer and looking forward to another great week in Surfside!

I was disappointed in this rental home. The couch was not anything I wanted to sit on and didn't because it was dirty. There are shingles missing from the roof and holes in the porch cover. The home was extremely damp and cold with only two small space heaters. The home is in bad condition and badly needs updating and cleaning.

A Great Place

Thanks so much for sharing your beach home with us. We had a great time, and everything was nice and clean. We will certainly look forward to staying with you again when we get to return to Surfside Beach. I love dealing with you directly instead of going through third party....a very nice feature and you are so sweet and down-to-earth. As far as suggestions for improvements: Silverware- No tablespoons at all, others limited. Microwave, (has a mind of it's own) I sound picky,had to think hard for improvements, - a great place to stay! Thanks!

Weekend Getaway

We had a great time! Four generations shared your wonderful home. Thank you for sharing it with us! It was my Mothers and Granddaughters first time to go to the beach, and they loved it!! Well stocked, cozy-just as described

I wanted a quick gettaway that was SAFE for me and my two boys, 8 and 2.5 years old. We took a wagon to the beach in the AM and late PM and the mosquitos were absurd. We were slapping each others backs for a half a block but they didn't go all the way to the beach ?? They stay by the house and grass. BRING BUG SPRAY. I even saw the truck spraying the neighborhood one night but still bad the next day. Perfect location and thanks for letting us borrow sand toys. Great views of sunset. Loved that the beach was closed to traffic...at least for now. Met really nice people on the beach.

Our second visit to Beachcomber was even more perfect that the first! Surfside beach is always very casual and laid back. New little additions and improvements to the cabin were evident and much appreciated. We left you our favorite Gulf recipe, which we enjoyed making there. Watching the full moon and surf from "our" porch was beyond magical. Thank you so much for again opening your vacation home to us.

Very nice cozy cabin! Everything was clean and even though it is a smaller cabin there was plenty of room in needed spaces...beds extremely comfortable. Close walk to beach and restaurants with a good view...definitely will go back...pleasantly suprised!

My family has owned this beach house for over 30yrs and we have wonderful memories in Surfside Beach. Our parents have, 'passed the torch' and we are now making similar wonderful memories with our children/their grandchildren. This is a wonderful clean family beach and Beachcomber is the perfect house to call home base and get out of the sun, cool off, and have a bite to eat before hitting the beach again. This is not a large beach house - but it is very comfortable and perfect for a family or romantic couple get away. We hope you and your family enjoy your stay in our home and make wonderful memories to share for years to come! All we ask is that you love & respect our home so we can continue to keep our rental prices affordable & continue to offer all of the 'extras' (sand toys, games, boogie boards, etc.) for all of us to enjoy. :-)

We spent a big part of our childhood on this beach! We don't get to enjoy Beachcomber as much as we used to and the taxes in the area are going crazy! We decided to try sharing our home with others looking for a fun affordable Gulf Coast getaway and have truly enjoyed meeting so many wonderful guests & hearing their stories. :-) Our home is not your typical 'beach rental' and we are not a property management company. Beachcomber is our vacation home so there are a lot of 'extra' items, (cooler, books, always a full 5 gallon water bottle for cooking & drinking, boogie boards, sand toys, etc.) Feel free to use whatever is there or leave items that others may want to enjoy! :-) Me casa es su casa. We use and enjoy our home during the Summer months but will consider long term/monthly rentals in the Winter.

We love to take the kids to the crabbing pier. You never know if the kids catch the crabs or the crabs catch the kids!! My stomach hurts every time from all the laughing. This is a very special time and place to spend time & make memories with your significant other or small family. It's very comfortable and just good, clean fun!

The jetties during the day is amazing and you can almost always see a dolphin or two. Local fishermen are very friendly & always happy to show off their 'catch' or pose & take pictures. In the evening we like to relax on the deck and enjoy the nice wonderful breeze.

Galveston is about 30min away so sometimes we will drive over and spend the day visiting but we prefer to come 'home' to a less populated beach.
