Cosy apartment-private garden, terrace, patio-in typical village near Lourmarin
Cosy, Private and One-of-a-Kind—Perfect for Autumn or Winter in the Luberon!
THE APPARTEMENT
At a glance…
If you’re drawn to places with soul—a touch of the old, a splash of the new—then you’ll be drawn to Chez David!
The appartement is a small, private and intimate space surrounded by greenery in the heart of Vaugines, a typical Provencal village that sits atop a small hill just up the road from Lourmarin—and not far from Aix and Avignon.
Our gite is likely to appeal to visitors looking for homely charm and comfort, and who enjoy the outdoor life, especially walking and cycling.
Chez David is simple but chic. And, if the sun isn’t shining (which is rare here even in winter), there are three superb cultural centres to visit: Aix, Avignon and Arles!
A bit more detail…
Everything at Chez David is a little atypical: from the vaulted bedroom with en-suite shower (no bath!) and window seat overlooking the garden path, to the lounge and small kitchen that open directly onto the terrace and covered patio.
Park on the road just outside the garden gate, climb a few steps through a partly-walled (rather wild) garden (dotted with two fig trees, an olive tree and lots of greenery even in winter), and pass the picnic table tucked away among the foliage.
As you step inside the apartment (yes, a few more steps), in front of you you'll see the bedroom, with vaulted ceiling, windows overlooking the garden (including a window seat), double bed and en-suite shower.
Through the passageway is the lounge with its all-new built-in kitchen (2 induction hobs, microwave oven, fridge, cooking utensils), loo (with washing machine) and lounge with its two sofas, bookcases—and two outdoor spaces...
The covered patio faces south, while the secluded terrace (with iron table, wooden sofa and chairs, etc.) faces east—meaning that when the sun shines this autumn or winter, you’re in luck! Enjoy your morning coffee outside!
We don't pretend that our gite is luxurious; rather it's charming, cosy and homely—a home, in fact, and not a five-star hotel!
Inside you’ll find:
The décor blends contemporary and Provencal styles, with large windows that flood the space with light.
• Vaulted bedroom with double bed, en-suite shower, window seat overlooking the garden, sofa.
• Lounge with two sofas, bookcases, a built-in kitchen (induction hob, microwave, fridge, etc.), small table, etc.
• Utility room with toilet and washing machine.
Outside you’ll find:
• Covered patio facing south (with large wooden table and bench)—protected with lots of greenery.
• Secluded terrace facing east (table for four, garden furniture including sofa)—perfect for morning coffee in the winter sunshine, with views of the garden and Cézanne’s Sainte Victoire in the distance.
• Garden—wild and without reason but great in autumn, winter and spring, with a few hidden spots to eat and drink—including a large bench with sun umbrella.
Guest access
The appartement and garden is part of a larger house (also available to let), but it is fully independent—all the spaces—and access—are exclusive to guests.
THE LUBERON IN AUTUMN AND WINTER
Take a look at the autumn and winter photos we have posted!
In the autumn and winter months, there are fewer crowds in Provence, lower prices and autumn colours: golden vines, rustling leaves—like New England, but closer to home.
Vaugines and the surrounding area are ideal for cycling, mountain-biking, hiking and recharging in nature every month of the year.
The gite is also a place to recharge your batteries if you're hungry for peace and quiet... but still want easy access to the historic cities of Aix, Avignon or—on the coast—Marseilles and Cassis.
VAUGINES: OUR VILLAGE
A peaceful hamlet perched between Cucuron and Lourmarin (the burial place of Albert Camus), Vaugines is surrounded by vineyards and backed by the hills of the Luberon mountains. The village gives direct access to walking, hiking and biking trails.
This picturesque village is popular with cyclists (that's why we chose to live here!), walkers and horse-riders.
Unlike most other small villages, it boasts a shop-cum-bakery, a bar (serving pizzas and the like) and top-notch restaurant—all 3 minutes from the gite!
To the north is the mountain known as the Luberon; elsewhere you are surrounded largely by fields of vines.
MORE ABOUT OUR APPARTEMENT
A Home, Not a Hotel
We love our garden flat—it’s part of our home.
We hope you’ll love it too and treat it with all the care it deserves. We’ll be using the same accommodation once your holiday is at an end!
As ours is an old Provencal house, it is not suitable—in spite of our best efforts—for anyone who struggles with walking, for young children or people with disabilities.
No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property—indoors or out.
SMALL PETS
We’re dog lovers AND very house proud.
We welcome small pets, with a few respectful guidelines:
• No pets on the sofas or bedding—ever
• Pets must not be left alone in the house
• Owners must clean up after their pets
If that sounds fair, we’d love to welcome your furry friend!
We’ve got sticks and balls for dogs and Sir Bobby (our cocker spaniel) is happy to say hello—as long as your pet is friendly.
We’ll show you the best walks, where the poo bags are and even recommend a local vet if needed. Just don’t forget your pet’s bowls!
Please note: due to the nature of our old Provencal house, it’s not suitable for guests with mobility issues or young children.
