Step out of your car and BREATHE. You will immediately be greeted by the sound of rushing Fowler Creek, a beautiful, cascading mountain stream and all your stress will melt away. Welcome to "Shadow's Creek Lodge!" This authentic, hand-hewn, three level, custom log lodge fulfills every mountaineer’s dream. This secluded home is situated at over 3,000 feet elevation, on almost 3 acres and borders 80+ acres of US Forest Service land yet it is minutes from the Cashiers' crossroads and downtown Highlands. It is spacious enough for the entire family and equipped with a game room that will entertain all the kids and kids-at-heart. Enjoy a meal or simply sit out on the oversized upper and lower decks to enjoy the sounds of the creek, the lush forest or the view of the stunning mountain ridge beyond. Make your way down to the creek from various access points and explore the many pools, mini-waterfalls and giant boulders. Gather around the outdoor custom stone fire pit for s'mores and stories.
Upon entering the home, you will notice the soaring ceilings, beautiful wide-planked wood floors and floor-to-ceiling stack stone, gas burning fireplace. There are four bedrooms (1 king, 2 queens, 2 queens, 1 queen and a bunk bed), a loft with 2 twin sleeper sofas, and a queen sleeper downstairs. There are four full bathrooms, three with claw-foot tubs and two with separate tiled showers. All of the bathrooms boast replicas of vintage wall mounted, pull-chain toilets. The lodge is beautifully decorated throughout and is filled with vintage antiques and custom, hand-crafted furniture and hardware.
For the chef, our fully-equipped gourmet kitchen meets every foodie's demands. It is a mix of handmade antique pieces and modern appliances. You will find a double-oven, a six-top Dacor gas stove and every pot/pan/gadget you can imagine. Perfect for preparing and then enjoying large family meals on either the indoor or outdoor custom, hand-crafted dining tables. Going beyond the standard amenities, our loaded game room is complete with a 55 inch flat-screen smart TV, billiards, air hockey, ping-pong, foosball, cards, chess/checkers, and various board games. A second stack stone, gas fireplace is at the ready with a click of a button. You will find two other TVs in the lodge, a 32 inch in the master and a 55 inch in the loft. Need a little quiet time? Cozy-up with a book in our stocked library.
Enjoy the modern conveniences of home including washer and 2 dryers, dishwasher, central heat and air, YouTube TV and high speed fiber Wifi. Please note that this is the mountains and cell service can be spotty but calls can be made over the Wifi. We hope you can un-plug, get back to nature and relax at Shadow's Creek, like Shadow, the beloved Black Labrador retriever the lodge was named after.
You will have all you need at the lodge, but if you decide to venture out, there are a multitude of activities. Hiking, waterfalls, dining, shopping, golfing, boating and so much more awaits you. Some of our favorite activities include: sliding down Cashiers' Sliding Rock only minutes from the lodge, On the Side BBQ and petting the pups at the Cashiers Farmer's Market, hiking Whiteside mountain, taking a dip in Silver Run Falls and Whitewater Falls, U-pick dahlias at Scotlyn's Yard Nursery, coffee at Bucks Coffee Cafe at the Cashiers' crossroads, shopping and outdoor music in downtown Cashiers and Highlands, lunch at the Old Edwards Inn, events and golfing at the High Hampton Inn less than 10 minutes from the lodge, fishing at the Walhalla State Fish Hatchery…….

We stayed here for a boys’ trip to the mountains, and it was absolutely perfect. The location was excellent with easy access to both fishing and golfing. The house itself was beautiful and set up perfectly for large gatherings, with plenty of seating on the outdoor decks and a great setup downstairs with games to keep everyone entertained.There were several beds, so the whole group slept comfortably, and hearing the rushing water right outside was just amazing. We didn’t get the chance to use the fire pit this time, but it’s definitely on our list for the next stay.This was an all-around fantastic spot, and I can’t wait to come back!

Great place for a multiple families!
Great log cabin in a peaceful setting. Has everything needed to make everyone feel comfortable. Spacious for a multi family stay. Far enough away from it all and close enough to it all. Golfing, hiking, boating, concert on The Village Green. The Market in town is fantastic. Highlands day trip to dry falls and shopping!

The best!!
We LOvED this cabin for every reason! Cozy, awesome decor, perfect kitchen for cooking for groups! Supplies were all there and we wanted for nothing! Basement for games was such a great way to have whole family together in the evenings! Cashiers is a great little town for a weekend getaway with great restaurants and shopping. Grocery store very near for any needs! We will be booking this again !!!!

Insanely Special Family Holiday Weekend!!
Wowsahs. This place was the perfect family getaway. We stayed Wednesday-Sunday and only left the property twice! Kids loved playing down by the creek, and the gameroom made for some memorable multi generational pingpong throwdowns. We were so happy to see the thoughtful furniishigns and Christmas decorations. The host was responsive and amazing. Thank you so much for making Thanksgiving 2023 the best one in a decade!

Very nice time!
Our little family always enjoys our time in the Cashiers area and this was no exception. We loved the game room - it was one of the reasons we stayed there since the weather can be unpredictable (the area has a LOT of annual rainfall). We're also a "cooking" kind of family and the kitchen is well supplied. The Cashiers Sliding Rock is so close and we hiked Whiteside Mountain. There are many waterfalls to visit and Brevard is close, too. We'd recommend this for all who enjoy having a stay away home in the Smoky Mountains.

The property is beautiful, fun and Peaceful.
You will find it clean and welcoming.
Everything I had hoped for in a mountain retreat.
It is just far enough off the main roads to feel like you are really out in the mountains but close enough to run the to grocery store for odds and ends.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook for your crew or you can run into town and eat out.
The beds are comfy and plentiful. Even with 4 full bathrooms there is plenty of hot water.
The creek is lovely to look at, wonderful to listen to and fun to explore
Plenty of porch space and plenty of play space
This is a perfect group or family getaway

Family vacation July 2023
We LOVED LOVED our week-long stay at Shadow's Creek Lodge!!! Ou r host, Lauren, was very easy to communicate with throughout the reservation process and then while we were at the lodge. The lodge is very spacious and had more than enough room for our family of 6 adults and 4 kids. The game room!!! Wow!!! It provided us with lots of fun! The creek behind the lodge was beautiful and also a lot of fun to explore. The lodge was very clean, the rooms were large, and kitchen was awesome! We will definitely return to Cashiers in the future and look forward to another stay at Shadow's Creek!!!

Incredible!
I can’t recommend Lauren (the host) and her property enough! The house was absolutely beautiful and had anything and everything you could possibly need. The kitchen was well stocked—we even had a private chef come cook for us one night and he was also impressed with the kitchen and everything the house had to offer.
There were 9 ladies that stayed for the weekend and every single of one of us were beyond pleased with the space, number of bathrooms, game room, beautiful back decks and overall ambience of the lodge.
Lauren was easy to contact and very quick to respond. She even accommodated an early check in for us since we had several ladies traveling from quite a distance.
I’ve already recommended the property to several family members and friends! We can’t wait to return! Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home!

Not great
First of all, the owner sent us a contract that was not current.
It sent us out of our way, over 30 minutes, to collect a key from an agency that had not worked with this owner for over a year.
Then we opened a very old dusty sleeper couch and bugs flew out.
One of the shower bathtubs was broken.
The photo of the house on the listing is of the house next door.
This is a log cabin and you could hear footsteps, toilet flushing etc. all over the house.
The kitchen was very nice and very well equipped.

We contacted HomeAway Support and they corrected the "gliche" that caused the outdated contract to be sent. We were unaware that the old contract was automatically being sent out.
We take pride in the cleanliness of our cabin. Our sofa sleepers are used quite often, so it is very surprising that it would be dusty, etc.
Yes this "is a Log Cabin" - therefore, the wood floors are not normal wood floors as you see in conventional homes, they are thick wooden planks and are independent of each other, not tongue & groove. We have never heard these types of complaints in all the years of renting our cabin, I can only assume an "authentic log cabin" is not something you are familiar with or desired.
Equipment in a home can malfunction, i.e., a shower, a faucet, as soon as we are made aware of a problem, it is repaired. This is a $1 Million dollar log cabin, we do not allow it to fall into disrepair.
The pictures of our cabin have been verified by HomeWay - you can even see the plaque at the front steps that reads "SHADOW'S CREEK" - very curious of why you would say they are that of our neighbor. They do not even have a log cabin.
Unfortunately, after I received the highest electric bill in the history of our cabin, I asked my caretaker if she would have any knowledge of why. She advised that upon her arrival after your departure, all the windows were open and the air conditioning was blasting. Not very courteous, thoughtful or environmentally friendly.

There was a power outage when we arrived on Friday. No power and water until 11:30pm. We found out on the second day that refrigerator is not working. Most of our food items went bad. There was a wrong phone number of cabin caretaker on HomeAway web site. I texted her about refrigerator issue and she replied to me “Ladyyyy!! This is NOT CARLA for the millionth time“. Internet wasn’t working too. We found a big spider in the standing shower area while someone taking a shower. Lot of spider web in the cabin. We couldn’t stayed for 3 days and left early.

Unfortunately, no one has any control over power outages. There is nothing wrong with the refrigerator - guests who checked in after this guest’s stay, had a large group and reported no issues with the refrigerator. A spider in the shower - could happen in any home - but especially in the mountains where you are surrounded by trees and forest. I have no idea how this guest received an old information sheet, I always update it on the HomeAway site and will call HomeAway to ascertain what could have happened.
This guest failed to mention that I was vacationing in Italy at the time of the power outage and still returned his text immediately, contacted the electric company and gave him the contact information for the company so he could stay informed.

Piece of heaven in Cashiers.
This log home is exactly as described and more. There were plenty of beds and bathrooms. The view and gurgling creek fed the depths of our souls as we sipped our morning coffee on the spacious decks. The kitchen was really well configured with 2 stoves, 8 burners and 2 sinks. Cooking for 11 was a breeze and we never got in each others way.
A few unexpected extras. The library offered a quiet space for some computer work. There was never an issue with service. For those inclined to do some laundry there were 2 dryers.
Cashiers is also very well located. My daughter wanted to see waterfalls and she posted 9 different falls. We retraced old memories at sliding rock in Pisgah. My son in the floral industry visited the dahlia farm and festooned the house with gorgeous blooms.
Lauren our hostess was very receptive and easy to work with on any questions. I will cherish the giggles from the teenagers who had their own space downstairs. We had a great trivia game night. “Go parents.” We were able to reconnect with family in this incredible space.

Large and well supplied but needs TLC
We stayed in this cabin for a week with another family. The kitchen was great for cooking - large, with an incredible amount of dishes, cutlery, cups, pots, pans, bowls, small appliances, etc. The house was large so there were plenty of spaces for everyone to spread out and enjoy themselves, however, the house and especially the grounds seemed run down. The mattresses on every bed were HORRIBLE and the sheets were in need of replacement. TOWELS are NOT supplied. Lighting was poor throughout the house, so much so that we could not find a suitable place to do a 500-piece puzzle.
The vegetation & trees were so overgrown that you could not see the stream on the property or really any of the back yard and there were weeds and tall grass in front of the house. The multiple porches and decks did not look like they had been swept for months. The interior of the house was surface clean but dust was lurking on the bric-a-brac which was EVERWHERE. The ping pong table was broken but usable. There are only two TVs, one in the Master bedroom and one in the bottom floor rec room. It took about hour to get the TV downstairs to work so we ended up leaving it on the entire week so we wouldn't have to fight with it every day. The headboard of the bed in the master bedroom was fashioned from two large loops of dried kudzu which is impossible to dust, and which left a big gap between the mattress and the wall so your pillows would fall through. We ended up draping a sheet over it. One of the French doors to the deck off the master bedroom was missing a blind so every night we covered it with a blanket. Speaking of blankets, there were a fair amount in the house but we had to launder them as they smelled like they hadn't been washed in a really long time.
We built a fire in the great room and smoke was leaking through the chimney into the house. The wood floors were really worn and had not been refinished anytime in recent memory. The house is on a narrow twisty-turny one-lane gravel road, so you have to back up if a car comes from the other direction.
In closing, if the owner invests some time and money into maintenance, I would recommend the property.

In response to this one and only negative review, I must first say that we immediately addressed all the issues with our weekly caretaker. Our cabin has been occupied for most of the summer and so we have been unable to personally visit the residence.
However, last I was there, the sheets were all in good form; as well as the mattresses, which were all clean and in good repair. The caretaker assured me that the status of such remains the same. While the mattresses are not "tempurpedics", mind you, we have not had a single complaint in the past. The bed in the Master Bedroom was hand-made by local artists, the same artists who crafted the beautiful dining room table. Again, we have never had any complaints in the past. Quite the contrary, we have received nothing but complements. We "intentionally" allow the natural vegetation to grow around the cabin - we are "in the mountains" and so try to keep it as rustic as possible. However, our caretaker cuts a deep trim a path to the creek, which he did again at the end of August. At the same time, he pressured cleaned the porches. We do provide for some limited modern conveniences including WiFi, satellite TV and two functioning televisions (with the game room TV being a flat screen, only one year old). As for lighting, this cabin is advertised and presented as a rustic cabin - which includes antique lighting that is subtle. This lighting; however, is complemented during the day with the natural sunlight brought in through the large and varied windows throughout the cabin. There is also high hat lighting throughout the game room. The ping pong table is not in perfect condition, but it works. I do NOT understand why the fireplace was lit in the middle of the summer. It smoked because the flue was shut. It may explain the huge electric bill for the month of August! It is not a very environmentally-friendly practice to waste air conditioning by lighting a fireplace in the summer. There is an outdoor fire pit for roasting marshmallows in the summer. In closing, this is a log cabin in the "mountains" - being on a "twisty-turning one lane gravel road" is all part of its rustic allure and what many renters enjoy it! I thank the reviewer for complimenting our well-supplied kitchen and spacious cabin and for the implication that she would recommend the property after the areas of concern were addressed.
I am sorry the renter was unable to enjoy the charm that comes with being one with nature.

Fabulous Location & House
The house was super clean. The space is amazing and the view is amazing. We had two families staying here and there was plenty of room for everyone. We especially enjoyed playing pool, ping pong and air hockey each night, as well as preparing s'mores at the fire pit. The kitchen has any tool/gadget that you could imagine or need. The property owner was also nice enough to provide us with recommendations on activities and restaurants. We will definitely be back!

Gorgeous Cashiers Log Cabin
This cabin was perfect for our family get together! Calling it a cabin doesn't do it justice. It is absolutely beautiful with fun mountain decor, plenty of space to gather and plenty of space to spread out. The game room was a big hit with all of us...we had ping pong and pool competitions and my grandson loved the air hockey! The back porch was lovely and spacious and we could hear the rushing creek below. We used the firepit as much as possible. It is near the house but feels very woodsy. S'mores were a part of our routine. Everything was very clean and organized, and Lauren shared with us all the information we needed to access the house, use the thermostats and internet, and settle in easily. She was very responsive when I had questions a couple of weeks before our stay. The kitchen was well stocked with various spices and other non perishable supplies, as well as every utensil or type of cookware needed. We had a lot of fun cooking together and had dinner at home six nights out of seven. An advantage of the location is that it is about 15 minutes from Ingles grocery, restaurants, farmers market, and the Village Green. It is also very near Sliding Rock Falls where we went twice. All my family members gave me big kudos for finding this amazing and comfortable home!

This is a beautifully decorated cabin nestled by a stream. We loved waking up and drinking coffee on the back porch listening to the water! The house had soft towels and all the amenities we needed. We would definitely stay here again.

We think we have found the best in Cashiers and at Shadow's Creek Lodge. We fell in love with the property as soon as we heard the sound of Fowler Creek. You can hear it from the front door! We immediately went down to the creek and couldn't believe that this stream could be our own. You feel as though you are in a protected national park with all the large boulders, waterfalls and places to explore. The creek would have been enough, but the authentic log lodge with soaring ceilings that provides a cozy retreat for large family meals and games made the property irresistible. We had found a private mountain oasis that is also still close to the activities, restaurants and shops of Cashiers and Highlands. There is always a new trail to hike, trout to catch, live music events and delicious farm to table food to follow. We have decided to share our home with you so that you may have a peek into our wonderful secret.
