## Emplacement
In the Var region of France, there's a town with 2,400 years of history. This city is Hyères, some twenty kilometers east of Toulon. Known as the city of palm trees, Hyères has preserved all its charm of yesteryear. To discover it, stroll through the picturesque streets of the medieval old town perched on the Castéou hill.
Enter through the Porte Massillon, which marks the entrance to the historic center, then stroll along to see old houses with colorful facades, brightly-colored stalls and a vaulted passageway under the ancient ramparts. At the top of the hill stands the castle of the Lords of Fos, built in the 11th century, and around which the town grew over time. Now in ruins, the medieval fortress offers visitors superb views over the Bay of Hyères and the Maures massif!
For a well-deserved break, head for the beautiful Place Massillon, where you can sit down on one of the pleasant café or restaurant terraces.
