Sunshine Suite at Tamarron Resort (Gambel Oak #733) is our renovated studio condo featuring a full kitchen, one full bath with modern updates, electric fireplace, sleeper sofa, washer-dryer and a small deck. Surrounded by Glacier Clubā€™s golf courses and the San Juan Mountains. Our Tamarron rental guests can play Glacier's 18-hole Valley Course at an exclusive discounted rate. Details will be provided in your rental instructions.

This comfortable studio condo has a wall of windows with lots of natural light. Recently updated with high-end finishes. There is a full kitchen with counter height eating, comfortable living area, nice bathroom with walk-in shower. The kitchen is well-stock. Just a few steps up from the parking lot, then this condo entrance is up a spiral staircase with seating and an electric grill.

Extra thought has been put into guest conveniences such as boot and glove warmers for skiers and a steamer for bridal parties. Great WIFI speeds of 100+ mbps.

ON-SITE AMENITIES AT THE LODGE INCLUDE: indoor pool, outdoor heated pool, outdoor hot tub, sauna, steam shower, fitness center, golf at a special discounted rate, tennis, pickleball, playground, 3 on-site restaurants, and event center. There is an EV Charging Station available for guest use in the Valley Clubhouse parking lot, adjacent to the Tamarron Lodge. Our Tamarron rental guests can play Glacier's 18-hole Valley Course at an exclusive discounted rate. Details will be provided in your rental instructions. There is a $20 per person ski shuttle to purgatory on weekends - tickets must be purchased in advance and the pick-up location is in the Valley Clubhouse parking lot.

LOCATION: Tamarron sits at around 7800 feet in elevation and is just 10 minutes south of Purgatory Ski Resort and 20 minutes north of downtown Durango. Many guests stay here to visit Purgatory Ski Resort, which offers a variety of restaurants, winter and summer activities, and festivals/events.

clean, updated property location was perfect for all of our planned activities & excursions in the San Juanā€™s the property mgmt staff was A+++ in attentiveness & service (an intangible plus) fyi; getting luggage up & down the exterior, tight-spiral staircase may propose to be a challenge for some guests (be aware / mindful of this) only reason for not getting 5 stars: the single washer / dryer unit is not as advertised; property owners need to invest in a stackable combo unit of separate washer & dryer units

Great Condo

We loved the condo, but 4 stars because the entry by spiral staircase should be up front and the shower drain should be either permanently fixed or completely cleaned before each rental - totally clogged for us, but maintenance came and cleaned it. Condo windows face parking lot, not the golf course. But great location, safe, clean.

The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and the electric grill outside wasmuch appreciated. Having access to the gym/classes/pools and hot tub makes up for the lack ofview. The only negative about the unit was that there was no real place to store non-hangableclothes due to the inordinate number of towels and pillows stashed in the cabinets! A bettermattress pad might be nice as well (waterproof ones are hot and slippery) but this is a minordetail. The staff in the fitness center and instructors were all great, as was the equipment andcleanliness of the entire facility but we were disappointed with two of the onsite restaurants:Cliffside was never open when it was supposed to be and the service at the Mineshaft wasterrible. Not a deal breaker, though, given how close you are to Durango.

Tamarron provides a lot of activities, golf, gym, pool and a great property for a walk. The bed is comfortable, good Wi-Fi, the TV had access to the apps/programs we needed to stay in touch. Would definitely stay here again. Oh, and for the one or 2 minor issues we had maintenance responded very quickly fixed the issue.

The Murphy bed was not my style and was uncomfortable for me. I would prefer a standard bed with a pillow top mattress instead of the memory foam mattress. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you need. The shower was awesome too! Watch your head going up the spiral stairs for the entry. Not a bad drive to town, about 20-25 minutes from Durango. Overall it was a nice place to stay.

We can to ski at Purgatory and this condo was located perfectly between Durango (20 mins) and Purgatory ski resort (10 mins). It was very clean and has both the main bed and a sleeper sofa. The condo is very updated with a nice fireplace/heater, big tv, ceiling fan, nice bathroom, and nice kitchen. Hot water was abundant and they made sure there were plenty of bedding, towels, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. Even has a washer/dryer combo if needed. It is on the second floor with a spiral staircase, but even with 8 inches of snow, it was not a big deal to go up and down, and they have a snow shovel, snow salt, etc. They really thought of everything. Would rent again!

Description is not correct!!!!!!

Property was beautiful and exceptionally clean. Fireplace remote was missing so we couldnā€™t use it. Description says spriral stair case to deck. Not true. Very very difficult to get luggage up the spiral staircase. I canā€™t imagine doing it in the winter. View described were not correct. View is trees. Nice but not what was described. Pool and gym are not disclosed in description as being a half mile down the he road in the lodge. Pictures very Deceitful as they look like they are on property. Property manager Adam was very nice but could not give me the discount I felt I should have considering that I spent the evening and my morning on the phone with them. I asked the rep that took over when Adam got off to have the manager call me. She never did. Never got remote for fireplace either so we couldnā€™t use it.

The washer/dryer combo was a bonus and appreciated. I'll preface this with I am a germaphobe and anal about cleaning. So, the bed linen (on the bed) did not seem like it was clean/had been changed. There were many hairs and small brown/black specks on the fitted sheet. We stripped off everything and found clean linen in the cabinet and changed the bedding ourselves. The floor under the bed, right under the pillows was very dusty/dirty with many dust bunnies and there was soap/toothpaste splatter on the doorframe inside the bathroom. Other than that, the unit seemed clean. It was the perfect size for my husband and me. It was very quiet. I believe there were people in the units below us and we could not hear them at all. We did not use any of the amenities at Tamarron as we were too busy with activities in Durango and surrounding area. We enjoyed Purgatory, the train to Cascade Canyon, Mesa Verde Indian Cliff Dwellings, visiting Ft. Lewis College and drives to Telluride and Silverton. Restaurants we enjoyed were "Serious Texas BBQ" (try the nachos) and James Ranch Grill.

The Worst Experience

One of the worst vacation rental experiences I've ever had. Where do I start...? When I arrived, I found that the unit was only accessible by a tight spiral staircase. It would have been impossible to haul luggage larger than a small overnight bag up those stairs--to say nothing of the large cases I had. This was NOT disclosed in the listing. The listing is borderline fraud. The front desk could do nothing, so I called the Customer Service line. After 45 minutes, the rep finally said that they could put me in another room -- as long as I paid the up-charge! What could I do? I'd driven 14 hours and was exhausted. The replacement unit was terrible. The loft where the bed was, was uninhabitable due to no AC upstairs. (To say nothing of the stairs to the loft, which were hazardous due to slippery wood and a bannister far wider than the human hand, which meant that if you slipped, there would be nothing to grab on to. You'd probably die.) What appeared to be the only closet was locked, so I spent the week tripping over my bags. If you stay here, know that your stuff is going to be spread out all over the floor. There's simply nowhere to store it. The TV was not functional. The DirectTV was not activated. There's so much more, but the most important point is the fraud with regard to the intentional omission of the fact of the spiral staircase. I fully intend to pursue a refund due to this willful deception.

Great Launchpad for Local Activities

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We came to Durango for a wedding and Gamble Oaks was recommended as a place to stay. We were not disappointed. The resort has so much to offer even with snow all around. The outdoor pool was heated and usable. The gym is well equipped and user friendly. The on site Mineshaft restaurant had many great menu choices and adult beverages. Overall a great place to stay.Our unit was 733, a nicely updated studio that felt more spacious than its 550+/- square feet. The full kitchen was great and the Murphey bed comfy. My only criticism would be two fold; no towel bars in the bathroom and the motel style wall heater was way too loud to have on either watching TV or trying to sleep. We turned the heater off overnight (it was 10 degrees outside) but were saved by leaving the electric fireplace on overnight.BE WARNED; the only access is via a spiral staircase. I have no idea how they got the king size Murphy bed into this place!!

Anniversary getaway

Condo was beautiful! Even better than pictures. Enjoyed heated pool with amazing view of mountains. Short drive to town. Will be back!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great time and nice rental. Would have liked to have had a snow shovel in the rental though! Seems like a basic thing? Also given wrong information regarding coffee maker which was frustrating. Also, lodge with the advertised amenities (hot tub, restaurant) was closed most of the time we were there. Overall good (not fantastic) experience but rating it less than a 5 because of misinformation. Unit itself was very nice and clean.

Nicely updated, but Not practical

But was not fun lugging 50 lb luggage up a 1.5ft wide spiral staircase to the 2nd floor with 6 inches of snow and ice on it. This very minimalistic style provided no drawers to store your clothes, only a bar in the entry way to hang clothes. The bath was tastefully updated, but with only two hooks to hang bath towels we had to drape them outside the bathroom to dry. The washer/dryer combination doesn't have a "dry only" selection so you can't dry towels, ski clothes etc without washing them first.The kitchen was reasonably equipped, but a refrigerator that doesn't have water in the door or make ice cubes??? Really. And be prepared for the heater to kick on frequently next to the bed. The humidity was 35% inside - proudly displayed by the thermometer by the bed. Just no humidifier that we found.It is an attractive place, but was a big fall risk for us going up and down the spiral staircase in the dark with ice and snow on it. And not very practical for a winter / ski trip with lots of clothes.We would recommend the Mineshaft restaurant at the Glacier Club. Convenient good food and great friendly staff. Takeout options too.

Cute Studio

It was a nice apartment. The neighborhood is nice. Kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans if you donā€™t want to eat out. Plenty of towels and wash cloths! Youā€™re about 25 minutes from downtown Durango. Host is super responsive. A few issues: Had to change the bedding when we arrived due to stains and crumbs on the sheets when we pulled back the covers. The washer/dryer duo is kind of a pain, but it does dry your clothes after a few hours. There are no lights outside so coming in after dark is a little rough. They do have head lights for you to use. Only one roll of toilet paper was left for us. So we had to go out and get some one night when we ran out. The public wifi is spotty. I had to use my hotspot at times when the wifi wasnā€™t working. I wish there was secured wifi in the unit. Itā€™s sufficient for a weekend trip though!

The drive to and from town was pretty and worth the time. I highly recommend staying here if you have a similar type of vacation in mind.

The condo is beautiful it has everything you need itā€™s got beautiful scenery inside and out it made me feel ritzy. My son told me all of our hotel stays need to look like this because it was the best ( as reference we stay at Marriotts). He also so there was a good amount of space to play in (heā€™s 8). My wife and I also really loved the space very relaxing. Restaurant on property is good, pool wonderful and warm hot tube great as well.
