Cabin is a convenient base to explore Central Va.'s wine/brew trail, hiking and many other attractions of this area. Convenient to hiking, wineries, breweries, Walton's Mountain Museum and about 30 minutes to Wintergreen skiing, entrances to Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. Many people plan to explore the area but then often end up just enjoying the peace, quiet and views.
Over 2 miles of hiking paths on property available for guests to use. One of the paths takes you to the Rockfish River (about a 15 minute walk on wooded trails) where you can fish, swim or just take in the scenery and watch for wildlife. Rock hounds will enjoy the variety of quartz and other rocks they can find on these paths.
Relax on the covered back deck and enjoy a beautiful mountain view and the serenity of the woods, watching for local wildlife, birds, woodpeckers, deer, fox and sometimes a bear.
Ceiling fan in bedroom with queen bed, closet, full kitchen appliances, stacked washer and dryer so you do not need to take home dirty laundry after your restful vacation. Note - there is NO dishwasher. Wireless and USB chargers next to bed. Keypad front door entry for self check in. Two TVs (Roku) - bring your own passwords for streaming accounts. Over 2 miles of woods trails on property for guest use.
Starter supplies included: toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, tea bags, sugar packets, coffee pods, coffee creamer, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, dish soap, & basic cleaning supplies. . Please bring your own if you have specific preferences. Please only take what you need and leave unopened items for future guests.
Kitchen is equipped with basic supplies: dish soap, hand soap, salt, pepper, olive oil, cooking spray, toaster, Keurig, drip coffee pot, mixer, tea kettle and all basic cooking utensils, dishes, cookware, dish towels, oven mitts. If you decide to do some cooking and need something else, please contact me and I may be able to provide you with what you need from my home.
Propane fire pit on back deck. String lights for ambiance on back deck. Seating on back deck for two. Hammock in back yard.
GRILL - charcoal (bring your own charcoal, lighter fluid, etc); utensils are provided
The cabin is located on the same wooded 90 acres property as the host's home (but not within sight) so we are usually available if needed during the stay.
WIFI - fiber network 100 mbps speed
WELL WATER- The cabin uses well water that is approved as safe for drinking and usage. The water has been tested and approved through the county health department. Well water, especially in mountainous areas will taste more minerally than "city water." If you do not like the taste of well water, a few starter bottled waters are provided for you. The water is filtered and softened through a system located in the cabin.
Please note that there is an exterior video security camera located on front of cabin, pointing to parking space. This is for security and self-check in only and will not affect your privacy. Alarm will not be set while guests are on site. There are NO cameras inside unit.
Sentosa Lane is a paved private driveway with a steep incline. The cabin has a short gravel parking area for 2 cars max. If snow/ice is expected during your stay, a 4WD is strongly advised.
Inclement weather/Internet/Electricity: We are in a rural area and have no control over such things as outages for power, internet, wifi, etc. Sometimes, internet will go in and out because of summer thunderstorms. Usually, it is restored fairly soon after the storm passes but not always. No refund will be given since these are rare occurrences and completely out of our control. If it is a long term event lasting days, the stay can be rescheduled. Departures due to inclement weather do not warrant refund of rent or deposit. We highly suggest Vacation Travel Insurance to account for situations such as this.
In case of power outage, there are small lanterns located in the bedroom closet and a flashlight on the refrigerator and next to the bed.
**Wildlife and Insects Disclaimer – This cabin is located in the woods with wildlife native to this area. Please be aware that there may be deer, raccoons, fox, squirrels, bears, raccoons, opossums, snakes, as well as other wildlife. The two snakes that are poisonous in this region are the Timber Rattler and the Copperhead. Please be aware of this when walking on the property and in the vicinity during warmer weather. Please close the lid firmly on outside trash can so as to not attract bears or other animals.
Depending on the time of year and the weather conditions, guests may encounter mosquitoes, gnats, “no see-ums” (tiny mosquito type bugs you can’t see but they bite) stink bugs, ladybugs, and other random bugs. Although we do have the cabin treated monthly, you may still see a random bug. We cannot control mother nature. You can help by keeping the doors closed, not opening doors at night when the lights inside are on and not leaving food out. We are unable to offer any guarantees against or refunds for the occasional bug that may make it inside our home. Thanks for understanding.
House Rules
No pets
Maximum occupancy - 2
No smoking inside or within 5’ of entrances if doors are open.
No parties or large gatherings. This will result in immediate vacate of the property without refund.
No outside fires (other than deck fire pit) because the house is in a heavily wooded area. We do have an outside propane fire pit that we ask you not to use if there are high winds.
This is a quiet place to find rest and peace. Please respect the serenity of our property for the sake of neighbors as well as wildlife.
Sentosa Cabin is a nature lover’s haven but we would like to leave nature and it’s residents outside. Please do not leave doors ajar as you may invite in unwanted pests such as mice, bugs or a possum (unlikely but possible). Lights on inside at night with the door open will invite a multitude of moths and bugs and possibly some larger critters you may not want to share your space with. Leaving food or trash outside unattended may also attract larger critters that you would not want to share your space with. Please be mindful that you are in a forest and you are the visitor.
Please respect our home as if it was your own.
Relax and enjoy yourselves.

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Sarah Ponton

My husband and I have lived on this property for nearly 30 years, while raising a family of 4 daughters. I am a former French teacher and winery manager but now am enjoying managing and sharing this little cabin with those who want to visit our beautiful area of the world. I love to travel, read, garden, rock hound, canoe and hike. My husband and I love to travel the world and our favorite trips have been in Africa. But, we also love to be at home with our dogs in our own little, beautiful corner of the world, tucked away in the woods watching the sun set over the mountains.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
We named our cabin, Sentosa, after the Malaysian word for peace and tranquility. We decided to build our home on 90 acres of woods near the river, woods and mountain views. We built this little cabin on our property to share the beauty and peace of our corner of the world.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
Sentosa Cabin is located on the same 90 acre property as the owners (although not within sight so you have your privacy). This cabin is located in a nature lover's haven and we have created over 2 miles of hiking paths through the woods for hiking or walking. There is wildlife native to Central Virginia, which may include: squirrels, bear, birds, deer, opossums, raccoons, groundhogs, birds, snakes, skunks, etc.
Perfect for couples or a single traveler. While secluded, it is also convenient to many wineries, breweries, hikes, Walton's Mountain Museum, historical landmarks and an easy drive to Charlottesville. It is also an easy drive to Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive entrances and other hikes that are closer. If you love nature, the woods and a mountain view, this is the place for you to recharge. Over 2 miles of hiking trails for guests on property.
