Artist's Retreat - Sea Views Near Onetangi
Summary:
Set between Onetangi and Palm Beach, Artist’s Retreat offers bright, modern living with sweeping sea views, bush surroundings, and space for up to six guests makes it an easy, comfortable base for island days.
The Space:
Artist’s Retreat is arranged across two connected pavilions, creating a simple, open layout with plenty of natural light. The main pavilion holds the living, dining, and kitchen areas. Under the high gable roof, the space feels calm and airy, opening straight to a wide deck surrounded by native bush.
The kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed cooking at home, whether you’re preparing breakfast before heading down to the beach or winding down with an easy dinner after exploring the island. The deck extends the living area outdoors and quickly becomes the central gathering spot, shaded, quiet, and ideal for meals or evening drinks.
The home includes two bedrooms.
The main bedroom is positioned for morning light and greenery, with a king bed and soft, simple furnishings.
The second bedroom offers flexible sleeping options: a queen bed, a single bed with a pull-out trundle beneath, and a sofa is ideal for families or groups sharing the space. The bathroom sits close to both bedrooms and is practical for everyday use.
With its open layout, bush outlook, and easy indoor-outdoor flow, the retreat suits couples, families, or small groups looking for comfort and space.

Guest Access:
The retreat is all yours, the entire home, deck, and garden area. There’s parking at the property, and the beach is just down the hill.

The Neighborhood:
The retreat sits in a quiet bush setting between Onetangi and Palm Beach, offering a private and peaceful feel while remaining close to beaches, cafés, vineyards, and walking tracks. The location works well for guests who want a calm base without feeling isolated from the island’s main attractions.
Onetangi Beach is around a ten minute walk downhill and is one of Waiheke’s longest and most popular beaches, ideal for swimming, long shoreline walks, and relaxed beach mornings. Palm Beach is also nearby, offering a slightly more sheltered option on breezier days.
For coffee and breakfast, Charlie Farley’s sits directly on Onetangi Beach and is a popular spot for beachfront mornings and quality coffee. Beach Store Waiheke, located just across from the sand, is an easy option for takeaway coffee and simple breakfast bites. Lunch options nearby include Three Seven Two, known for modern coastal dining steps from the beach, and Solar Eating House, which offers an easy all day menu in a sunny garden courtyard.
Dinner choices are strong in this part of the island. Ki Māha is one of Waiheke’s most celebrated restaurants, offering refined beachfront dining at the eastern end of Onetangi Beach. Three Seven Two also works well for relaxed evening meals with a coastal focus.
Several well known vineyards are a short drive away. Tantalus Estate offers a vineyard restaurant, cellar door, and elegant indoor outdoor dining, while Te Motu The Shed is known for relaxed but refined dishes set among the vines. The Heke is also close by, combining craft beer brewed onsite with wood fired mains and a lively outdoor garden bar.
Getting Around:
The Sea View Road bus stop is an easy walk from the retreat, with services running to Onetangi, Palm Beach, Oneroa Village, and the Matiatia Ferry Terminal. The same route stops outside major wineries in the Onetangi Valley.
If you’re driving, parking is available at the property. E-bikes and scooters are also available across the island and are a convenient way to explore.
Other Things to Note:
The home runs on rainwater, so please use water thoughtfully.
Pets may be accepted on request, subject to approval before booking.
