Thank you for your review. I wish to respond by making the following points. I accept that the apartment was not to the standard you were expecting. However, the pictures you supplied to me did not display a level of uncleanliness that matched what you suggested in terms of your effort to make the apartment fit for habitation. However, this incident has highlighted an issue for me of which I was not previously aware and it also relates to the other points you have made about supply of information. I have previously provided an information booklet to guests which was downloadable through the VRBO site. It appears that VRBO have changed the configuration of the site such that the document is not longer available. This document makes clear to guests that they must leave the apartment in a clean and tidy state and it now appears to me that the guests before you will not have been aware of this because they, as well as you, did not have access to the document. You mention that you received 'small compensation' but I will disagree with that description as it was equivalent to more than half a day of your stay (by what I received in payment). I am unable to believe you spent half a day making the space as you wished it to be. I would like to highlight also, that my management company offered to come to see you about the issues you found but you refused this offer. I feel it is probably fairer to include all the relevant information in a review rather than focussing on the negatives in order to bolster your stated position. I will agree that this time, the apartment did not meet the standards I have set for my myself but I would like to make the point that you did not pay for an extremely high standard of accommodation. Yes, the apartment was not good enough regarding the preparation, but given you paid the equivalent of a reasonable hotel room and got a 3-bed (6-person) apartment, I think that the 4/10 rating is a little harsh. I do not make any profit from renting the apartment for a few weeks each year and in fact I typically make a, not insignificant, loss. If I were to include a full clean of the apartment with each turnaround then I would need to charge significantly more and therefore you would not have been able to take advantage of the good value I currently offer. I have been letting the apartment each winter for over 20 years now and I have had minimal complaints. I do find it a disappointment that, after providing you with a significant offer of compensation and the efforts I made to put the situation right, that you could not have found a little more balance in your final summation. In my guest review I gave you a top score on every rating but I feel now that this might have been a little generous. My management company reported that they did have to do some cleaning and tidying after you left so, in hindsight, I might be inclined to lower some of those scores although it would not be something I would normally wish to do.
