Das Wortham House ist eine gotische Remise aus dem Jahr 1823 (die älteste in diesem Stil in Charleston und den USA). Beide Objekte sind im nationalen Verzeichnis historischer Stätten eingetragen.

Das Wortham House verfügt über drei Schlafzimmer im zweiten Stock, die jeweils über zwei Einzelbetten (von denen eines in ein Kingsize-Bett umgewandelt werden kann), Flachbildfernseher und ein eigenes Badezimmer verfügen. Das Haus bietet Platz für 6 Erwachsene. Die Miete für das Haus richtet sich nach der Anzahl der vermieteten Schlafzimmer. Man kann ein, zwei oder drei Schlafzimmer wählen. Nicht vermietete Schlafzimmer sind geschlossen und versichern den Ausschluss von Ihnen unbekannten Personen. Die erste Etage verfügt über eine große, geschmackvoll eingerichtete Lounge, in der Sie morgens Kaffee und Cocktails lesen können. Eine Gästetoilette befindet sich neben der Lounge. Ein Abendessen in der Küche für sechs Personen befindet sich ebenfalls neben der Lounge, wenn das Frühstück bis 9.00 Uhr serviert wird. In der Küche gibt es einen Kühlschrank, einen Backofen und eine Mikrowelle zum Erwärmen der ins Haus gebrachten Speisen. Leider ist das Kochen per se in der Stadt Charleston nicht erlaubt.

Das Wortham House ist von preisgekrönten Gärten umgeben, die in mehreren Zeitschriften und Büchern veröffentlicht wurden. Es wurde zuletzt von den Smithsonian Archives of American Gardens und dem Garden Conservatory von Amerikas besten 25 Gärten in den USA anerkannt. Platz im Garten steht zum Essen zur Verfügung. Parkmöglichkeiten für 2-3 Autos sind im Garten vorhanden.

Wir erlauben keine Haustiere, Kinder unter 18 Jahren oder Kochen vor Ort. Obwohl Ihr Frühstück in Ihrem Preis inbegriffen ist. Das gesamte Anwesen einschließlich Auffahrt und Garten ist rauchfrei. Mehrstufige Veränderungen im Altbau und im Garten machen es für unsichere Füße ungeeignet. Auch keine Zustellbetten zur Verfügung gestellt.

Our stay in Charleston was so special at the Wortham House Carriage House. Betsy Johnson was the perfect hostess! Best Rental Ever!

We came to Charleston for a family wedding with our 3 adult children. The wedding was great but the experience at Wortham house made our entire trip one of the most memorable we have had. Every detail from the Southern hospitality to the Lucious gardens and charming antiques made our trip unforgettable. Our hostess Betsy has not missed a detail in supplying the home and made us all feel very comfortable.

Family Vacation

We had a wonderful stay at the Wortham house. Betsy brought a wonderful breakfast every morning and made sure we had everything we needed. Beautiful space for 3 couples

From the first contact with the owner to saying goodbye this carriage house is perfect in every way. The location is near downtown and easy to get to most anything a visitor would want to do. The entire house was immaculate. Oh and the breakfast was amazing. We plan to return soon.

The best girls weekend

This place was a dream come true! Perfect for me and my four bridesmaids to have a laid-back bachelorette weekend. Walking distance from everything (even the marina for our sailboat trip!), but so gorgeous and relaxing I hardly wanted to leave. Betsy was the most exceptional hostess, and was so delightful and communicative the whole process. I'll definitely be looking for any excuse to come back to Charleston so I can stay here again!!

Wonderful weekend in Charleston

We had a wonderful stay at Wortham House. It was like stepping back in time into old Charleston. Betsy, our hostess, is fabulous. She graciously welcomed us to the property and was happy to answer questions about its history. The garden is one of the best in Charleston. Breakfast was terrific and Betsy supported our stay but was unobtrusive with her hosting. The location is terrific- we walked everywhere. All bedrooms are similar so no one felt they got short changed. Would definitely return.

Travel back through time

When you were a little girl and read a fairy tale, Ms. Betsy’s carriage house would be what dreams are made of. My 4 dear friends and I had the most amazing time. No detail was left out. The home itself is exquisite accompanied by hot breakfast. So much charm!!! We could walk everywhere. We hope to come back to this enchanted spot. A treasure like no other!!!

Luxurious comfort in the heart of Charleston

We were a group of six women, 70+ years old, friends since childhood, on our annual getaway. Wortham Cottage suited us perfectly, with a comfortable gathering space, full kitchen and gorgeous gardens. The bedroom arrangements with en suite bathrooms and twin beds were tailor-made for us. Our hosts, Betsy and Gene Johnson, were welcoming, gracious and informative. Our group felt pampered and felt dazzled by the attention to details and the amenities, including a delicious continental breakfast served in our kitchen each morning. We lounged in our nightgowns in the living room on plush seating, sipped coffee, nibbled muffins and planned our day. We highly recommend Wortham Cottage and will return individually and as a group.

A step back into time with an "old Charleston" ambiance; a lovely garden that is even more picturesque than the photos; and yet, well-maintained and clean furniture, bathroom, and amenities. This a completely and tastefully renovated "carriage house" feels like a home rather than a rental property.The beds are all single beds not conducive to combining into a king, but this was NOT an issue for our group of senior citizens.Our group spent the afternoons in the lovely garden having "sundowners" and soaking up the elegant and relaxing vibe.I can't imagine a better place to stay while visiting Charleston

Girls Getaway

From the minute we set foot on the beautiful Wortham House property, Betsy, our fun, informative, and charming host made sure that everything was above and beyond our expectation(s). She was waiting for us as we arrived and welcomed us to her beyond spectacular home and gardens. Pictures do not do the house or the gardens justice. Her home is decorated with beautiful antique furnishings. We enjoyed sitting in the living room with spectacular views of the gardens as well as congregating around the kitchen table in the morning over leisurely poured cups of coffee. Betsy’s home is absolutely spotless and it is obvious how she has earned her moniker of premiere host. It was our first visit to Charleston and it won’t be our last.

Absolutely Charming

The moment we pulled up to the driveway.. we were greeted by our gracious host, Betsy! She was so incredibly sweet and full of information. She showed us around the grounds and gave us a brief history about the property.. how she and her husband transformed it into a storybook abode. The Carriage house and garden were so inviting down to the last detail. We loved it so much.. our only regret was that we didn’t spend more time there. We can’t wait to go back!!!!

Our stay was Charleston hospitality at its finest. This property was even more lovely than described. Each bedroom and bath was appointed in beautiful Charleston style. The beds were comfortable and had the softest sheets ever. The entire home was impeccably clean. Bathrooms were refreshed daily. Our hostess was a charming Charleston lady who brought breakfast each day, shared stories with a sense of humor and grace and made us feel welcome like family. The gardens were thoughtfully laid out and neatly maintained. We all highly recommend Wortham House.lovely than described.

Wortham Carriage House is exactly as you see it online! Beautiful historic Carriage House that does not disappoint. The "gardens" are absolutely stunning reflecting the award winning recognition they have received over the years. The house is exquisite...only to be matched by the hospitality and kindness of the Owner who went over and above to accommodate all of our wishes to make our stay more comfortable...Betsy Johnson! A true Charleston gem! Gene & Betsy seem unassuming but…LOL

My wife and I were in the area for one week. The first 4 days for the Charleston Festival. The remainder, a beach stay at Folly Beach. We had 5 home/garden tours lined up. The problem was that Gene/Betsy’s carriage house & gardens were far nicer than ANY of those on the tours. A truly spectacular place! The carriage house was such a beautiful spot to stay and come home to each day. Betsy bringing breakfast each morning was absolutely delightful.It wasn’t until the second portion of our trip when we left their property and stayed at another vacation rental in Folly did we uncover Gene & Betsy’s dark plot to be such great hosts and cause us to miss them and their gorgeous house/gardens. Thus making a return to visit them in the future inevitable. Devious, Gene & Betsy! Devious!

Southern Charm at it’s Finest

From the moment we decided to come to Betsy’s home for our girl’s weekend to our arrival, it was truly a wonderful experience. The gardens, home itself, cleanliness of everything, full breakfasts and willingness to adapt to my one friend’s dietary needs and to share insights about the home and Charleston, was above and beyond. The location is perfect — loved being in a neighborhood, yet close enough to walk to King Street and more. We all would come back in a heart beat, and absolutely stay here again. This historical Carriage home is a gem and Betsy is an absolute doll! So glad we came. Thank YOU Betsy!!!
