Lovely well maintained home. A bit taken aback by the extensive contract that had to be signed. Also, once I’d committed to the stay, the contract emphasized the need for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. During the winter months I’m sure that is a necessity. So be aware of that. West Jefferson is a short commute and hiking is close as well. Wonderful stay. Plan on returning.

Thank you for your wonderful review of Above the Clouds! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the well-maintained home, convenient access to West Jefferson, and nearby hiking opportunities. We understand that our vacation rental agreement may seem extensive, but it helps ensure that expectations and property guidelines are clear for everyone. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the 4WD recommendation. Mountain roads can become challenging during winter weather, so we want our guests to be prepared for safe travel, especially during the colder months. Thank you for choosing Carolina Mountain Vacation Rentals. We look forward to welcoming you back for another wonderful mountain getaway!

The perfect holiday retreat!

One of our favorite rentals! We were lucky to be at the cabin for an early snowstorm and loved how cozy everything was - down to the crockpot, fireplace, and reading nook.

Unmatched quality for a mountain house in the high country of NC

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: If you're looking for a quick getaway for a couple or two and a few kids, or a quick guys/girls trip, this is your spot. I'm a native of NC and have visited Nantahala, Boone, Banner Elk, Grove Park Inn, etc for years. This place is sick in terms of it's location, views, amenities, convenience to West Jefferson downtown, etc.The views with Above the Clouds are second to none. This place is amazing...sitting at a modest 4700' elevation you are literally at the top of the mountain. IOW, if it's 90 degrees in Charlotte, its probably 65 degrees at this 's well equipped with anything you need including amenities such as a hot tub, gas grill, fireplace, pots/pans/utensils, tons of outdoor seating, bean bags, etc. Further, it's about a 15-minute drive to downtown West Jefferson which offers local breweries, the famous Ashe County Cheese shop, etc. Not to mention, a high-end winery with local music that is on the way to downtown WJ too.For the golfers, Mountain Aire CC (open to the public) is an insane challenge of elevation changes and is crazy to play..only about a 15 minute drive from this cabin.I would HIGHLY recommend this cabin for a weekend gathering either for family or a girls/guys getaway.

We’re thrilled that you enjoyed the incredible mountain views, amenities, and convenient access to downtown West Jefferson and the surrounding attractions. It sounds like you made the most of your mountain getaway, from exploring local shops and wineries to enjoying the area’s outdoor adventures. We especially appreciate your recommendation for both families and friends looking for a memorable getaway. Above The Clouds truly offers a special mountain experience, and we’re grateful you chose to stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you back for another amazing visit!

Beautiful cabin and views!

We loved our stay! The view can’t be beat!! The cabin is decorated so beautifully and it has all the amenities we needed plus more. It was chilly at night so the gas fireplace was perfect! Love the extra touches like all the hooks on the walls for coats, towels, swimsuits and clothes. :-)

This is a nice property with an awesome view. You definitely need awd or 4 wheel drive on the driveway and the gravel road up to the house. The weather was great. We saw lots of deer. We had a problem getting programs on one of the tv’s but called and the issue was addressed quickly. Management very nice. Beautiful sunsets. Would love to stay there again.

Wonderful, long range views

The cabin is located in a beautiful area with wonderful views! Views from the porch area are great! The cabin itself is beautiful and comfortably decorated. The master bed room is upstairs so keep in mind if you have a handicapped or older adults with you. We had a wonderful time and would rent this unit again!

Birthday Mountain Top Getaway

Celebrating my girlfriends birthday with her son and his wife. The place is fabulous as is the view. You are literally "in the clouds"! First rental that had good knives for cooking. I brought mine just in case but didn't need them. I might be a bit pampered, but cookware cold use an update. All in all, a great place to get away!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We arrived after dark and the driving directions were perfect to get us there. The morning we were supposed to leave weather caused a delay as the road down wasn't clear so the management company extended our check out and by noon the road was clear enough to drive out.Amazing views from the deck. Cabin is cute, cozy, and clean.Only thing to be aware of is that there is another cabin less than 100ft away that isn't really seen in the photos. Great place and we look forward to returning.
