Historic Farmhouse set in a private & quiet rural setting, pet friendly.

La Maison Timmes is an historic farmhouse (circa 1700) sitting in tranquil countryside on the edge of the pretty village of Amfreville; it is set in its own private 3 acres of garden (which includes the field at the rear of the house). Rue du Motey leads to Les Heutes hamlet which would have been a traditional small farming community in the 1700’s with livestock kept on site to help work the surrounding fields.

In June 1944, as part of the D-Day landings, a famous battle between the Germans and US forces took place in the vicinity in what became known as "Timmes Orchard" after Lt Col Timmes. There is a monument to the American Forces, adjacent to the orchard, 200m to the right along the lane at the bottom of the field. In the near distance across the fields you can see a chateau, which is known as “The Grey Castle” which was the Germans’ headquarters.

La Maison Timmes was used as a regional command post and the neighbouring house was used as a field hospital by the Americans during the numerous days of fighting. There are original US paratrooper foxholes and plaques around the perimeter of the field at the rear of the house; bullet holes are still visible in the external walls of the house. The window in the downstairs bathroom was created from a German artillery shll fired from the direction of the "Grey Castle". Another story suggests that a German soldier ran along the path at the side of the house from the front towards the Grey Castle under fire from the American soldiers.
