Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Mark Christie
We are Mark and my fiancé Amy. This was my parents cottage and we have history dating back in Muskoka to the 1800s. It is in our heart. Outside of my family and friends, the cottage is the most important thing in my life.
I spent most of my career in the ad business and now work in Marketing Planning at TD.
Amy has a sales and promotions background and is an entrepreneur in the beauty sector.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
We are not in this to run a hands off business and simply collect income. The cottage is in our blood. We rent it to help offset costs so that we can continue to enjoy it as well and continue to keep it in great shape and make improvements every year.
We do not think of people as clients. They are our guests. We want to provide an experience that provides fair value. We want our guests to feel like this is their home when they are here. We want them to want to come back.
I lost my folks in my early/mid 30s and have been managing the cottage since then, a little over a decade now. I take a tremendous amount of pride in it and since meeting Amy 5 years ago, she has been right beside me. My parents were given nothing and this was their/our jewel.
I had and still have family in the Muskoka's and we actually helped settle the land in the 1800s. In the 1960s, my dad worked with my uncle from the village who did some real estate after the war and he bought this piece of land,
He let it sit until the 80s when he and my mom had the foundation poured and then he built it from the ground up with his buddies, He was in sales, but thankfully he was handy and all his friends were skilled tradesmen. It is the central focal point in almost all of our memories together, with friends, with extended family.
I have taken great pride in not only enjoying it as they wished, but replicating their hard work and perseverance. We try to not only maintain it, but add to it every year like they did, Accepting guests helps us do that. Next year is painting inside and out, new appliances and new rails on the boathouse.
Basically, we want to share with guests that will enjoy it the way we do. We will greet you and walk you through - either myself or our concierge and property manager and we will be available (within reason of course :-) ) should you need assistance during your stay.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
- Value - renting in Muskoka is expensive. We have tried to price our rates as fair as possible against the market. We feel like we are charging a little bit under market value to do this compared to some comps
- The deck. Let's face it, the cottage has a lot going for it, but the deck is the heart. Cocktails and sunbathing during the day. The most incredible sunsets. Stargazing at night. You will not want to leave. Fortunately, the bunkie has a fridge and a cool retro cooler.
- Living space. Dinning room over the lake. An ample living room for entertaining. A separate games room in the basement for the kids with pool and darts and satellite and even its own 2-piece washroom. 4 bedrooms - 1 king and 3 queen
- The Lake (this should probably be first). Shallow sandy entry and beach. As a kid, I would be on the beach and in the water playing from 8 AM until dinner with a waterski break and with a forced lunch break. Pluss, deeper water for swimming off the dock, The lake is spring fed and super clean. Doesn't get much better. Plus, great boating in the big 3 lakes and with destinations like Port Carling and great fishing too.
- Amenities - the Village of Rosseau, with the historic general store (you can get it all there) and ice cream shop and LCBO and bakery and pizza shop and chip truck and legal government carnaubas shop and the incredible Crossroads Restaurant + multiple antique shops is less than 15 mins away. There are also tons of world class golf courses including the Rock - but I would also suggest Seguin Valley as it is close and an absolute gem. Top 100 in all of Canada. You are also close to the JW Marriot, Port Carling, Port Sandfield, Windermere, Muskoka Woods, Rosseau Falls, Aspdin Wildlife Sanctuary and trails galore.
