West of the Moon is the PERFECT place to stay with your family and dogs. If is right across the street from a pet friendly beach. You literally walk out the front door, across the street and are on the beach. The beach itself is great because it's not a crowded tourist trap. You can actually just enjoy the sand and ocean without the crowd. The apartment itself is also ideal for a family and pets. First it's all hard floors- perfect for pets and of course the sandy beach. I really don't want to stay at places with carpeted floor and pets. It had 4 beds, enough for my family of 5. Also ideal was the front and back yard space. It's nice to take your dogs out and not leave your yard. Taking your pets on vacation with you isn't always easy- you have to find a good place and I'd say this is it. When we left to explore without them, they had a nice open, all hard floor area to relax and enjoy, all bedroom doors shut so there is a nice safe area to keep your pets without using a crate. Very enjoyable for us and our pets. Thank you.I would stay here again on future trips over to a great beach. Jamie, Matt, Sonorah, Lucas, Quinn, StormFly, and Winnie

This house was very clean, really close to the beach (3min walk) Great location and view near to all local attractions, restaurants, bars, grocery stores ect ( literally 5 minutes drive) Very big space and safe I’m a single mom who brought my kids and mom with dog and we really had a great time I hope we can use this house again next summer

Everything We Needed!

This is the second time we have stayed at this property and we hope to visit again. It is conveniently located to the beach and pier, welcomed our dogs, and had everything we needed for a great beach week!

Great Location! No complaints here!

We would stay here again. It is a duplex turned into 4 rentals, but it was roomy enough for 6 people and 2 dogs. The A/C was ice cold and had a separate air conditioner for each bedroom and living space. The location is great - only about 20 feet from beach access and 0.6 mile walk to shopping and food. The host responded to texts quickly. The people we met were all so nice. This is a rental and city I want to visit again.

West of the Moon was very close to the beach, with walking distance. The condo was nice and clean and smelled so fresh. Felt very comfortable and it had everything we need for our stay.Peaceful neighborhood. The host ( Joel) was very accommodating. Called to check on us to see if everything was ok and to our satisfaction. Definitely recommend to stay at West of the Moon.

Best location. Great neighborhood and easy quick walk to the beach. House was spacious but needs updating. The house was not well equipped. The kitchen hardly has anything. Washing machine was not good either. TVs were nice. Beds were comfy. Pets were welcome!

Great location!

Great location, right across from the beach! The house is a little outdated but worked for us. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the wooden creaky stairs. They are steep so carpet would've been easier for us and our little dog.... We made it work. No tv box in master bedroom. Living room tv volume is on tv, not remote... Overall a good stay!

Kitchen appliances very out dated. Washer leaked and was extremely loud. No trash bags, paper towels, bath mat and 2 rolls of toilet paper. Master bedroom looked to have mold on ceiling in closet. Sand on sheets on bed when we arrived. Location very good and recommend right near beach. Property manger very good.

Owner’s Response: "Hi Maria, Kitchen appliances are new. Before you arrived we purchased a new microwave and coffee maker. The washer does not leak. Trash bags were under the sink, paper towels were in the cupboards, and more bathroom tissue was under the bathroom sink. There was (and is) no mold on the closet ceiling. We have our handy person, living right down the street, to attend to requests 24 hours a day. Thank you for the positive comments about the location, 30 yards away from beach access, and our excellent property manager. We provide a beach wagon, chairs, umbrella, and toys for the kids, a sturdy deck, gas and charcoal grills, free Netflix and Sling, and a private washer & dryer. We look forward to having future guests enjoy our beautiful Emerald Isle Beach at West of the Moon."

The condo or apt. not sure what it is since both are listed… but rental is NOT on beach nor is it 30 yds to beach… place is a dump literally… dog crap on the lawn go figure! I’m about yo head back home

Hi Jules, we're sorry that this home did not exceed your expectations. - The property is not advertised as beachfront, but it is accurately described as 30 yards from the beach. - Listing photos show the easy walk to the beach, and the homeowners provide plenty of beach toys, chairs, and a wagon for added enjoyment. - The property is pet-friendly, and we can confirm that the yard is kept clean. - The homeowners let us know that they were in contact with you throughout your stay and answered all questions promptly. They were happy to give suggestions for local restaurants and attractions and did all they could to provide a five-star experience!

Disgusting.

When we arrived, there was maintenance crew working on the home so we could not enter originally, then we found out they were spraying the mold thats in the master bedroom closet. The maintenance crew was confused they thought we were coming the next day. The smell was absolutely disgusting and gave us a headache all weekend. The only thing decent about the play was the location, very close to the beach access point since it’s across the street. Location 8/10. House 1/10.

Alexis, We were quite surprised by your review. You texted us to see if you could extend your stay, and because of a prior commitment, we had to deny that request. We know that this upset you, but we had hoped you would understand. We have provided this documentation to Evolve for their records. At the beach, during the heavy season, contractors are very difficult to schedule. We had already scheduled someone to come by at 10:30 on the 20th. They are set to replace the linoleum in the bathroom and repaint all AC vents. After this is done we have another guest checking in. We do apologize for the inconvenience but as business owners, we have to get things done when we have time. We try to ensure that the property is up to date on maintenance and we make upgrades to make it a great place for all our guests to enjoy. We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests. We will continue to strive for the 5-star experiences we know we can deliver.

West of the moon is in a great location and it was nice to find a rental that didn’t require a week’s stay. There’s a set of 15 steps to get to the apartment so keep that in mind if you have issues with stairs or bring heavy items. There are some maintenance items and upkeep that need to be addressed so this is information only. The toilet is loose/rocky and the door in the bedroom with the full size loft bed will not close. To keep the humidity to any reasonable level the air units in each room must be kept on at all times and the temperature below 70 or your clothing and bedding will get damp. Recommend bringing your own towels (bath and beach) as those provided are small and have been heavily used. There was no laundry detergent and the washer shook badly. If budget is a concern then this rental will do. Flooring is all vinyl which holds up well to pets and sand. The unit is dated as others have said but for a comfortable bed and a place to stay out of the hot sun or rain then it will do.

Second floor, very little kitchen tools

This was a nice place and very fairly priced. However, we could have planned better if there was more info listed. For example, the entire unit is on the second floor. There is nothing listed to indicate that, and my father had a difficult time with the stairs. There is mold in the master bedroom closet, and the walls in the master bedroom. There is very little kitchen equipment; one mixing bowl, only a few plastic cups for drinkware, one measuring cup with no markings, maybe 5 or 6 spoons. The beach chairs and gear is great! A deck on the front of the house to see the ocean would have been really nice! Especially for my dad who choose not to leave the condo for the most part bc of difficulty getting up and down the stairs. Because of mobility issues I would probably not rent this place again, but if you choose to, I would suggest you bring some kitchen tools if you like to cook, bc you don’t have a lot to choose from here.

Near quiet beach- not quite as seems

The opening picture show a boardwalk to the beach. This apartment is a row back across the street from beach. What is that picture?? Pros: Easy 2 min walk to nice quiet beach location. Easy in driveway parking for up to 2 cars. Large apartment with a lot of room to spread out (but one bath with slow draining sink). It was decently cleaned (except for mold in closets) and it had most supplies like soap, a bottle of shampoo, and paper towels. We also enjoyed the wagon with skim board and a few sand shovels available to use. Cons: Not as pictured. The quality of furniture is different and cheap/worn/squeaky/..pretty much as others have described. Also only 4 chairs at a smaller table. I didn't want to use the kitchen utensils either without cleaning them myself because they relied on previous tenants to HAND wash and put away (when we could find no sponge) The top bunk wasn't made, no fixes were addressed from the previous reviews (lack of care clearly), there was not much light (and missing lightbulb), and 2 nails were sticking up on the wood steps. I can imagine this place was quite nice 20 years ago, and they just never did anything since. I definitely know there are worse beach apartments out there, it wasn't awful, but I do NOT think this was worth the cost it took for our 2 nights.

West of the Moon is 30 yards from beach access, and we provide a wagon, beach chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, skimboard, masks and snorkels, swim goggles, and an entire sandcastle play set for the children. From the property, you can see the ocean and hear the waves on the shoreline. The first photo listed is from the second beach access to the right -We constantly update the property: new skylight, new wood flooring, new linoleum in kitchen and laundry area, new patio furniture, new router/modem, and other new furniture. The furniture is excellent and spacious, especially the large wrap-around leather couch. It's great for a big family and does not squeak. We provide two benches in addition to the four chairs, as the maximum capacity is six vacationers. Also, we provide a high chair for a baby/toddler. -The dishes were washed before our guest arrived. -We have addressed your comments with our local team to ensure our high standards are being met and all efforts are consistent and thorough. -We enable renters to stay a minimum of only two nights versus an entire week like most property managers in Emerald Isle. -There are no nails protruding from the wood step, no mold in the bedroom closet, and the bathroom sink drains quickly. We take our guest experience seriously and strive to provide an enjoyable stay for each guest. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Well, I went back and read all the reviews from 2020 forward. None of the concerns other people wrote about from 3 years ago were addressed. The icemaker still does not work. There is still a crack in a stair! There are no shelves in the freezer. The bed is just as terrible. The full kitchen to cook in a atrocious. Most of the dishes were dirty. Half of the lamps didn't work and we had to switch batteries from 4 different controllers just to make one work. Also, there are no hardwood floors and the washer didn't work. The kitchen table in the pictures has been replaced with one that looks like it came from a yard sale. Everything looks like it came from a yard sale. The worst was the three portable air conditioning units! The central air barely worked. Those units have not been cleaned in ages and we both started getting migraines within 12 hours of arrival. It was so bad, we left a day early. I didn't even bother to contact the property manager because it was very obvious that these problems don't seem to matter because they go back to 2020. The only nice thing was it was very close to the beach. Trust me and all the other reviews, skip this one.

Beyond the great location and pet friendly policy, this property is dated, poorly maintained, and not worth the nightly rate. The beds were extremely uncomfortable—the couch was better. We left a day early because we couldn't sleep, and the issues affecting our stay were not things the host could realistically address during our stay. The bedding, towels, and furnishings felt cheap/worn. The bedding was microfiber, and all of towels were old, pilling, mismatched in color, and heavily worn and have never been bleached. We ended up using our beach towels because the provided towels did not feel clean. The kitchen was minimally equipped, the toilet was not properly secured and rocked every time it was used, the wooden stairs were unfinished, and the lack of a dishwasher raised additional concerns about cleanliness.I can say that the fridge/freezer kept food cold, although the freezer had no shelves. The AC eventually cooled the apartment, but it relied on 3 additional loud window units and took 9 hours to reach a comfortable temp of 72. Considering it's summer in NC, arriving to find the thermostat set at 80 and being asked to turn the system completely off when leaving felt illogical.Everything about this VRBO seems to be operated with cost-cutting as the primary concern. There was also a pet goat in the VRBO unit below us. While While it did not directly impact our stay, it raised questions about cleanliness standards, especially since the units appear to be managed together

Owner's Response: "Thank you for your review for West of the Moon. West of the Moon is only 30 yards from the beach sand. Here, you have a wonderful view of the ocean and hear the waves break on the shore. The place is ideal for couples and families. The linens are provided free of charge and the beds are made before your arrival. Positives include flat-screen TVs in every room, strong bunk beds, solid deck, beach wagon with 4 beach chairs and beach umbrella, sand castle play set, with an easy short walk to the beach, plenty of parking space, private charcoal and gas grills just for your family, deck table and chairs, picnic table, and property staff that live close by to handle all issues and recommend good places for family outings. After several days, you began complaining about very small issues, which we agreed to fix after you left to not interfere with your vacation, because they were so small. First, there was a small 2-inch string of carpet, which we cut off. Second, 1 of the 15 drawer handles in the kitchen was loose, which we tightened. Third, 1 of 7 TV trays did not work, which we threw away (there were still 6 TV trays that worked perfectly). Fourth, the handle on the screen door to the deck was old, which we replaced. These were all small issues. All the furniture is recent, especially the beds and dressers. The couch in the living room is very large and all Smart TVs have free access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sling (blue and orange), and Hulu for hundreds of channels and movies. A printer/scanner and paper are at the property for use with the very fast internet. West of the Moon is far enough from the pier to find a nice uncrowded beach area but close enough to the Emerald Isle town center to get to restaurants, shops, and the movie theater. You can even walk to the excellent and friendly local tavern, The Emerald Club. Also, the kitchen is stocked with everything you would want including a microwave, blender, waffle iron, and all types of new cooking wares and cutlery. In addition, there is a private washer and dryer near the kitchen. We look forward to your return to West of the Moon and hope you can enjoy the experience instead of searching for minute issues such as a 2-inch carpet string."
