The house is exactly as it looks, a wonderful timber shack on one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve stayed at. The location and host was 100% 5 stars! Sitting on the back deck watching dolphins swim past during a sunset is next level. The fireplace dominates the ambiance in the living area and it warms the house so nicely. We will be heading back again for sure.

Wonderful beach shack with a private beach. Saw dolphins, seals and sea eagles and caught salmon for tea.Host lives nearby and was friendly and helpful.There is no tv or wifi or optus phone reception but there was telstra coverage. Great place to just disconnect from the world.Maybe bring your own water as we did.We would definitely go back.

Extraordinary location on Kangaroo Island. Kirsty is an excellent and gracious host. You have a whole house to yourself in a secluded, very private location with only 2 other houses nearby. The house has a deck for relaxing looking out over the ocean. There are no shops nearby (Kingscote is 45 mins) so stock up on provisions first. The location offers access to a small, private beach which is reasonably safe for swimming but be cautious about water conditions. Access is via good quality gravel roads which require some caution.

Private getaway at King George Beach retreat

Loved the views from very second you drive in through the gates, amazing views from inside, wake up every morning to amazing views, swim and fish all day night and relax in the evening watching sunset.

Room with a view

Amazing location with privacy, views and beach access. Comfortable accommodation, clean and basic. Appreciated the supply and top up of fire wood to help on a couple of chilly nights.

Rustic beach house on the north coast. The bay/location is truly incredible. There are some unsealed roads to reach the property, but well worth the journey!

Loved our stay

Had two main requirements, view and open fire. The view was fantastic, our own private beach although winter was amazing. The sunsets were spectacular. Combustion heater with plenty of fire wood was just what we asked for.

What a special place!

We loved our stay, great directions to the property, clear communication with our host, easy check-in and a fantastic place to stay. We marveled at the view, watched the many different animals and overall just relaxed. Sunsets on the deck were a favourite time. We left hoping to visit again soon.

The view & quietness

We stayed for 3 nights and had the whole property to ourselves. We did day trips out but were always keen to come back to enjoy the view and the peace! The house had everything you could ask for (except for ceiling fan or pedestal fans in the bedrooms) but overall we are looking forward to booking this place again for longer and maybe in the cooler months. Communication and directions were great and easy to follow.

Private and stunning

This property is in a beautiful, peaceful location. We had this gorgeous beach to ourselves as even though two other houses (one still being built) are on the same private parcel of land, there was no one else staying at the time. The house is a little tired and not fancy, but it was clean and well equipped. The location is hard to beat and we were delighted to stay there. We even saw an echidna in the yard on our last night! We’d happily book again.

We had the most idyllic stay at King George Beach Retreat. It’s easy to see why everyone gives rave reviews. The character filled timber cottage, right by the sea is a fabulous place to simply relax and unwind. The private beach is perfect - with dolphins pretty much daily while we were there and a resident opsrey to enjoy. Kangaroos and heath monitors are regular visitors. It’s also a great place to use as a base to explore the island’s beautiful other places. We fell in love with the island and the chance to be completely remote from most civilisation. However, we think you really need a couple of weeks to do the place justice. The house is most beautifully appointed with quality bedding and equipment. It had absolutely everything we needed. And Will called in to deliver a plentiful supply of wood in case we wanted a fire, but the weather was very kind. Although we did have a wonderful thunderstorm our first night. Thank you Kirsty and Chris for enabling us to share this wonderful place.

Awesome!

Location, location, location! Hard to describe just how stunning the position of this house is, overlooking perhaps the most beautiful beach on KI. safe swimming and snorkelling and rock walking. Fabulous views, peace and quiet and perfectly comfortable, although now some years old. Well equipped, comfortable beds, friendly owner. Some fire damage around, but miraculous escape for this property and the result of the fires by no means detract from the experience.

King George Beach Retreat is spectacular!

This fabulous home facing the most amazing beach and sea view as far as the eye can see, it is just breathtakingly beautiful. A Short walk down to the beach, Will have you feeling like you are on your very own island. It has a well equipped kitchen, great wood burning fire, sherian linen, lovely furnishings and magnificent view from every room!! I have really enjoyed my 6 night stay here and would love to return again. Chris is a wonderful host and his ‘little sisters’ are super sweet.
