We stayed over the Christmas break because my son was in town and I only have a one bedroom. We had to bring the kitty, so that limited our choices too. The cabin is spacious, cute, and quiet and the beds are comfy. Even with it being on the main road in Shirley, we didn't hear the traffic. At night, to say it was dark was an understatement but we loved that part. We couldn't get the fireplace to work however, and there were a few things that didn't work like the sensor-motion lights in the driveway. There was no TV, and we wanted to binge, so we went home and brought our own and a computer to stream Netflix. Some of the supplies were great, like extra tea and coffee and condiments, but others needed work, like the frying pans. If you want to make a pie, bring your own mixer and plate. I had to use a wine bottle for a rolling pin. I made Christmas dinner one night, and I made another trip home, which wasn't far, to bring my own pots and pans for the task.
For the rate, the cabin would have been great. However by the time all the add-ons for VRBO happened, an inexpensive break cost as much as a hotel. I likely won't search VRBO again because of the fees. The cabin was advertised as very inexpensive, and so it should be considering the season and location. It ended up, after all the fees to be more than an middle class downtown hotel.
