Herzlich Willkommen bei Cottage und Swallows Byre in Swaledale.

Das Intake Cottage liegt wunderschön zwischen den Dörfern Low Row und Gunnerside im Herzen des Yorkshire Dales National Park. Ein klassisches Beispiel für ein Landhaus des 18. Jahrhunderts Dales und Teil eines ursprünglichen Bauernhauses. Es wurde ursprünglich von den jetzigen Besitzern als Rückzug des Zweiten Weltkriegs genutzt. Seitdem haben die Kent's über 35 Jahre renoviert und gepflegt, Urlaub gemacht und Intake Cottage vermietet.



Das Intake Cottage ist nach Süden ausgerichtet und bietet einen schönen Landschaftsgarten mit Panoramablick auf das Yorkshire Dale und den Fluss Swale (altes Englisch für die Wildnis), der einen Steinwurf entfernt liegt. Swaledale ist bekannt für seine wilden Blumenwiesen, Schafe, Trockenmauern, Heu- und Viehscheunen, Blei-Bergbauruinen und seinen schnell fließenden Fluss.

Intake Cottage ist ein idealer Ort zum Wandern, Radfahren, Sightseeing, Forellenfischen, Malen oder einfach nur zum Entspannen.

Das Intake Cottage ist ein archetypisches Landhaus, das von der Balkendecke, den Steinböden und dem Gusseisenbrand aus dem 18. Jahrhundert beeindruckt. Es ist durchweg mit einer Mischung aus Antiquitäten und hochwertiger Polstermöbel eingerichtet, die ein Zuhause von zu Hause fühlen, ideal zum Entspannen vor dem Feuer.

Küche

Die renovierte Shaker-Stil Küche ist ein Country-Köche behandeln mit traditionellen Belfast Waschbecken und original Stein Speisekammer Regale.

Schlafzimmer:

Hauptschlafzimmer

Das Hauptschlafzimmer hat einen herrlichen Blick über das Dale und enthält ein Doppelbett, Kleiderschrank und Schminktisch.

Zweites Schlafzimmer

Das zweite Schlafzimmer hat auch herrliche Aussicht nach Süden und ist durch das Hauptschlafzimmer angesprochen und hat ein 3ft Einzelbett mit herausziehen, Schrank und Kommode.

Alle Betten sind mit Handtüchern und Geschirrtüchern ausgestattet. Heizdecken sind für die Wintermonate verfügbar. Das Haus hat volle Elektrizität und Kohle für das offene Feuer.

Klein, gut ausgestattet und direkt neben dem Hauptschlafzimmer.



Draußen

An der Vorderseite des Hauses befindet sich ein erhöhter, nach Süden ausgerichteter Garten mit Blick auf eine wilde Blumenwiese bis zum Fluss Swale. Eine Terrasse mit Gartenmöbeln und Grill ist ideal für Mahlzeiten im Freien, wenn das Wetter es zulässt. Wenn nicht, gibt es unser sogenanntes "Hobby" (Sommerhaus), in dem man sitzen kann, ideal um die Tierwelt zu beobachten oder vor jedem stürmischen Wetter zu lesen.

Schwalben Byre

Über der Gartenmauer westlich von Intake Cottage gelegen, behält Swallows Byre die gleiche schöne Aussicht nach Süden. Diese Umwandlung enthält das Beste aus altem und neuem Design, das den kompakten Raum mit maximalem natürlichem Licht einschließt, das Qualität geschmackvolle Einrichtung und Zentralheizung einschließt.

The property had clearly not been used for some time beforehand and was very cold when we arrived. It had no central heating, and only a coal fire and two oil-filled radiators to try to warm it. It also had single glazing through which a draught could be felt. The cottage never really gelt warm. Parts of the property were not clean. Some of the kitchen cupboards actually had cobwebs and resident spiders, and the shelves felt dirty.The wifi stopped working on day 2, and never worked again, something which made things particularly difficult when there was no mobile phone coverage either. The owner did not seem unduly concerned about this. I can see from a later review that it did not work the following week either. On the positive side the bed was very comfortable, there was always hot water, and the views from the cottage were lovely. Swaledale is a gorgeous valley. We will not be returning to this cottage.

Sorry to hear that . I did have the cleaners in beforehand . I did get the WiFi fixed and there is mobile phone reception in the area. Did all I could to help them with WiFi reception from other cottage. I will make sure the cleaners check everything next time . Not had this kind of review ever before and my other guests over the years have been very happy. So so sorry you did not feel the same.

Sehr stilvolles Cottage in dem idyllischen Swaledale.

Das Cottage war sehr schön, klein und stilvoll eingerichtet. Ein Kamin ist vorhanden und kann benutzt werden. Dies kann beim englischen Klima manchmal sogar im Sommer nötig sein. Der Vorgarten ist klein aber auch schön. Auf der Terrasse steht ein Sommerhaus zur Verfügung, das wir aber nie benutzt haben. Die Inhaber, Frau und Herr Kent, sind sehr nett und hilfreich. Neben dem Cottage wohnt der Sohn, William, ein Ansprechpartner für Notfälle. Auf alle Fälle sind die Yorkshire Dales so schön, dass man die meiste Zeit im Freien verbringt, so dass das Cottage meist leer bleibt. Die Sommertage sind in England sehr lang (um 22 Uhr ist noch relativ hell). Nicht vergessen, wenn man das Cottage bucht: ein paar Kilometer zurück steht das Punch Bowl Inn, ein sehr gutes Restaurant mit ausgezeichneter englichen Küche. Und sonst, viel Spaß in den Dales!

Perfect cottage

Dorothy’s cottage is all you could wish for from the homely comfort to the views across to the hills opposite. It feels a much loved home and although small is really well equipped and meant holiday cooking was a pleasure For some the lack of a washing machine might be a big issue but our only complaint is that it is advertised as having wi-fi (we chose it in favour of other wireless options) when in fact that barely functions and you are in effect cut off as there is no phone signal either. Having said that we absolutely loved our stay in Intake cottage

As far as the WiFi is concerned it was working well in the summer so shall have to look into that. I would however like to point out that you are not cut off even if your mobile has no signal as the cottage does have a landline.

Very impressive 18th century cottage in a beautiful location! Really enjoyed my stay here with my Nan and cousin. Dorothy was very polite and helpful, will definitely be coming to visit again in the future and would highly recommend!

A spring idyll

This was my second time staying at Intake Cottage and it was, once again, clean and welcoming. The garden was also well-maintained and a pleasure to look out on with spring daffodils replacing the apples and mallows of autumn. Communication with Dorothy was prompt. Thank you, Dorothy.

Lovely little cottage

The cottage has loads of character. Kitchen is well equipped. The only negative (with the whole property) was a lack of washing machine - especially after a days hiking in possibly muddy conditions. We felt the freezer could have been replaced with a washing machine and perhaps have a smaller fridge including a small freezer? That said, the kitchen was stocked with most basics and implements and enabled cooking or simple microwaving each evening. The living area was perfect - a great fire which includes coal and most kindling needed. TV and dvd/blu ray player and freesat, plus free wifi means you can keep in touch with the world if needed. Wifi worked perfectly and a landline is available as no mobile reception in cottage. The electric meter was in the corner and we spent about £20 over the week but that included charging phones, I pads and other electronic devices together with using the oven and electric heaters regularly. Only got caught out once with no juice in the meter! The bedroom is roomy and provides amazing views in the morning. The second bedroom is off the main one and you have to go through the main bedroom to get to the bathroom. The bathroom is small but is sufficient. Electric shower is fine and bath is available. All in all we would recommend this cottage. Only one minor quibble tegards lack of eashing machine but otherwise a perfect Base for exploring the dales. We'd definitely visit again!

Cozy Intake Cottage in Swaledale

Absolutely fantastic week in Swaledale at the cozy intake cottage at low row. Hardly left the cottage as the views are spectacular . Loved sitting in the garden and summerhouse. Enjoyed cooking and baking in the kitchen. Had a roaring fire in the evenings bliss. Snug in the pretty bedroom with the electric blanket warming the bed. Booked again for october staying in the ajacent swallows byre . Cant wait! Mrs Kent is very welcoming and you have everything you need in this spotlessly clean cottage.

Absolutely perfect

Intake Cottage is a wonderful base from which to explore Swaledale, and the perfect retreat in wet weather - cosy and supplied with everything you might need. It looks out over a field - full of lambs when I was there in May - and then the river Swale beyond. There are lovely walks directly from the cottage. The owners, Dorothy and Nigel, were extremely welcoming. I very much appreciated their tip about the fish-and-chip van that passes the cottage at about 7.15 on a Friday evening - truly delicious fish and chips!

I grew up in County Durham , next county to North Yorkshire Dales national park.
Loved sport and art, became a hairdresser and beauty therapist and ran my own salon for many years. Married another Co. Durham boy in 1973.
Have 2 children and we all loved spending our summers at Intake Cottage. We still all get together in the summer time as well as doing the yearly maintenance of the cottages and garden. I do all the change overs and cleaning with some help from my husband and have more help in the summer from my son.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

The situation of the cottage is ideal as it faces south with the garden in front which leads into the field and down to the River Swale below.
Plenty of space to run around and when the children were young swam in the river and had a little boat and canoe. Found tadpoles and caught little fish on their nets . Games in the garden.Lovely walks from the cottage which lead up to the hills .
