Our Stay

This property was beautifully decorated, very spacious and super clean. The neighborhood was in the perfect location. Short walk to the beach, pool right behind house but was not super noisy. I would highly recommend this house and area in Miramar for a beach vacation stay.

Family vacation

We have gone on vacation with our neighbors for 5 years now over fall break. We have always stayed at a condo in Beach Retreat or a house in Cottage Retreat. This house was by far the best layout and cleanest for our two families. With 4 adults and 6 kids ranging from 2 to 16 it’s hard to find something that fits everyone. But we finally found it. Will definitely try to book this house again next year once we know when fall break is.

First Miramar visit

Property was just as described. Perfect for our family. However, the 4th bedroom on 3rd floor was small and the bunk bed squeaked. We had young adult and teenager to share that room. Son said the couch was more comfortable. Was not a bad walk to beach access. The pool was too hot to enjoy on those hot July days. We did not use. My 1 complaint is the codes for access to neighborhood and beach. Too many codes to remember. I understand safety/privacy reasons for them would be nice if some kind of scannable bracelets or something. Overall, loved our visit

Captain Quarters

The location is great, the community is great. However the cottages needs some attention. The carpet, TV’s and appliances need to be replaced/updated. The carpet is disgusting. The AC vent in the ceiling in over the kitchen table leaks. We had to move the table to sit and eat. There is a frog, dead, stuck in the ceiling register. The registers in the bathrooms are rusted. The shower curtains have black mold on them especially the first bedroom/bath. There were a couple bugs/roaches in the 3rd floor bathroom. Really needs some maintenance and some care.

Very ran down house and extremely horrible property management

Southern rental is horrible to communicate with. Sent two texts from property which I never got answers. Had to call Vrbo to get check in information because SVR never sent me anything. House is extremely ran down, horrible dirty and old mixed match carpet throughout, chipped tile, broken trash disposal, no cable tv, no internet and very dated house. Too bad this place is in such bad stay, location is excellent and house has lots of potential. I would never use or recommend Southern Vacation Rentals!

We are sorry your reservation was after a hurricane that made our beautiful area lose internet and cable for a little over 5 days. Because this is such a great location, we do get a lot of guests, which means a lot of up-keep and wear and tear. We are currently working with the management team to get items replaced. Great Week

Captain's Quarters is a house with a lot of potential but it needs some care. The carpet is worn out. In the doorways, you can feel the carpet tacks when you walk. In one of the bedroom door way, the carpet is loose to the point you can trip on it. There was a leak over the dining room table that has been there for awhile. The microwave door handle is broken. The sofa in the living room and up stairs is worn out. It is a beautiful home with lots of room but needs updating. The house is convenient to the pool and beach. Location is wonderful. It needs 3 parking spaces with unit. The information on the website needs updating about the parking. We had a great week. Spend some money on the house so it can be more enjoyable to stay in. The staff was very nice to talk to.

Top Notch Vacation Home

The home was spotless upon entry and has recently been remodeled. From the floors to the ceiling, it was just beautiful. The kitchen was fully stocked and we lacked nothing throughout the week. The rental company was in constant communication throughout the week via email and text ready to rectify any issues if needed. The property was perfect!!!!!

Fabulous rental

This condo has been completely renovated since we decided booked it. Beautiful updates, super clean, very short walk to beach and although the community pool was literally out our back door, it was never too loud and people were respectful of quiet time at 10:00. Update the pictures on the listing!

Family vacation

The house was awesome. Pool behind the house and beach was close. We had a few issues like washing machine and toaster not working but they replaced them. There was a maintenance man that was awesome ( I wish I remembered his name). We could have had better check in information (the gate code to the community and the beach).

Great location, close to beach!

Great location and close to beach and pool. Only down is the cleaning, I had to reclean the house. Other then the house being dirty, we enjoyed our stay and would like to go back again next year. Hopefully they change cleaning crew or supervise the cleaning.

Was not disappointed

Love Destin beaches. Rented a home this time to bring my family to celebrate my 50th birthday. Captain Quarter's is just as described. The gated community is nice and quiet. There is a short walk to the beach and the swimming pool was very nice. The only thing I would suggest is adding handicap rails for toilet and tub. I would definitely rent this house again.

Overall a great experience!

We loved our stay in the captain’s quarters! We were there with a bunch of teenage girls for a cheer and basketball tournament and it was so nice being able to put all the girls on a floor to themselves while the adults had the peace and quiet of the second floor. Our only complaint is the bathtub in the master bath, only one jet worked and black mold cane out of the jet when it was turned on. Other than that, it was a great, private and secure, good beach access, pool and hot tub were great for December swimming and the house is beautiful and peaceful!

Nice home

Nice place the parking sucks if you have more than 2 vehicles and having to get out of the car to punch the key code for the gate is no fun either but it was close to the water and a nice home

Great location. Great home

The management company did an excellent job communicating. The house had a fully stocked kitchen, we had plenty of plates, cups, utensils etc. AC worked great. Only negative is the couches and mattresses could use an update as they were worn and not very comfy to sit or sleep on. Good enough, but near the end of use.

This property needs updating

We mostly enjoyed our stay in Destin, but several deficiencies made it less enjoyable than it should have been. We were not informed about there being only 2 parking places until a fews days before our arrival. If you have room for 12 people in a rental, it stands to reason you will need more than two parking spots. The "wifi" was practically non existent. The best speed I ever got was 3 mbs, which is barely faster than dial-up. I called the Southern Vacations office and got no help at all. The refrigerator was way too small (again) for the number of people in the house and the ice-maker produced very little ice. The one walk in shower had a very slick floor and no hand rails at all -- a serious deficiency if your renters include seniors (my wife and I are 76). The sinks and toilets in all the bathrooms were very slow to drain, so it was fortunate that plungers were provided. We "plunged" often during our week.
