Zatara Pacific Grove CA

This is a fabulous house and perfect for our family of 11 to celebrate our Mom's 85th birthday. The house is very nice, clean, well equipped and the ocean views are amazing! It's also a great location, especially if you like to go for walks along the ocean. I would definitely return to and highly recommend this house.

Wonderful, peaceful spot!

Our group had the most amazing time at this house and property. The house is lovely and the views are outstanding. The house is clean and big and exactly as stated on the listing. We had no qualms! We come to Monterey every December for a race my husband participates in at Laguna Seca and we would absolutely rent this house again for our crew!

Pacific grove stay during crisis

The property manager was great and very helpful. View is amazing and location is perfect. The garage parking is very difficult, so we could only park at the drive way. Need some better knifes for meat like steaks.

Paradise on the water

We sat at the dining table and watched dolphins and whales swim across the bay. We walked out of our front door and strolled along the coast....west to Asilomar and east to the aquarium and Cannery Row. The house was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was perfect for a big family Thanksgiving dinner. I can't say enough good things about the house. Our entire stay was a delight.

Perfect house for a large family weekend

The house was beautiful and the location was perfect. We included Grandma and Grandpa, 3 grown kids and their spouses and 4 little granddaughters from 4-8 years of age. The view from the living room, kitchen and decks could not be beat. The kitchen was very well equipped and we even used the BarBQ one night. We loved having all 3 fireplaces for the warmth and coziness in the evenings. We could walk to town and the aquarium and Lover's Point was a nice spot for a drink overlooking the beach. We will return.

Amazing view!

Zatara is an amazing vacation home with quite the view. Nothing like getting up in the morning, making a cup of coffee and watching the sea otters float in the ocean right outside your door! Make sure to bring a pair of binoculars! The house was very clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed. It's a little "well loved" and could probably use some minor maintenance (light bulbs out, etc.) but nothing that affected our vacation.

Perfect house for our large family weekend

The house was beautiful and the view could not be beat overlooking the ocean. The kitchen was well equipped which came in handy with 12 of us and the BarBQ worked well and it was nicely located right next to the kitchen door. Location was wonderful, as we could walk downtown, walk along the beach paths, or just walk to Lover's Point for a cocktail overlooking the beach. We all enjoyed having all 3 fireplaces for added coziness and warmth during the evenings. Other than the bathrooms being a bit outdated and having a few minor maintenance issues, we loved the house. We will be back.

Check in

When checking in our key was not available as per directions said would be and only the maintenance answered our call and was out of town. After a little over an hour the managers boss got us the key. However It was a holiday and the office was closed. After that small inconvenience the house met our expectations.

Black Mold!

The location is fabulous, but it’s obvious this house isn’t being maintained. The furniture was falling apart, sheets were stained, towels were torn. Worst of all, there was black mold in many rooms, and in one bathroom they had just thrown some mismatched paint over it. The floor plan was great for our group, and we didn’t have any major issues but due to unacceptable health hazards we won’t be returning (seriously, research black mold before you decide to pay these outrageous rates).

Mold is a very serious issue; the property manager and the owner of Monterey Rentals visited Zatara as soon as they read your review. They found a small amount of mold on two exterior windows - which is very common in an oceanfront environment - and had those windows thoroughly cleaned. The other “mold” you referred to was actually a stain on the paint. The owner is refreshing all the linens and towels and examining the furniture to see if any pieces are in need of repair or replacement. We do appreciate your comments, and we make every effort to respond to all complaints: we want our guests to have the best possible vacation experience.

PROS: Beautiful accommodations. Beautiful views and location. Right across the street from the bay. The sound of the water was therapeutic. Although, updates in kitchen and bathrooms are needed and should be implemented to continue with the ambiance. But, the house was exceptionally clean. Enjoyed by all. CONS: Not the best if you have seniors in your group. With the exception of the master bedroom, all of the bedrooms are downstairs. The kitchen, master, and great room are upstairs. Both exits are downstairs. The number of stairs are significant. There are two baths downstairs, neither were senior friendly. Parking is a challenge. No on street parking, Driveway and garage leaves very little room for maneuvering. OVERALL: Great Place

Location, Location, Location!

I was fortunate enough to spend 30 days here during March/April 2023. I cannot say enough good things about the experience. We saw whales, dolphins, seals and otters from the balcony of the property. The view is just spectacular and includes amazing sunrises! It is directly across the street from the bay and 30 steps from the front door there is a walking path along the bay and tide-pools. The property is walk-able to the Pacific Ocean (Pt Pinos 1 mile), Pacific Grove Downtown (1 mile), Monterey Aquarium & Downtown (2 miles). Numerous restaurants and a really nice golf course (Pacific Grove Golf Links) are also within two miles. The property is nice for large groups, with four bedrooms, two baths & a garage with laundry on the ground level and the upper main floor has the kitchen, dining & greatroom (all connected) along with the master suite. There are two balconies facing the water and a private patio in the back. Condition is overall good, with a renovated kitchen, however the bathrooms appear to original. But, no worries as everything is functional and with the views, you will be spending most of your time on the balconies or in the greatroom. Another nice touch are the three gas fireplaces on the main floor for those foggy days or cool evenings. If you are looking for a excellent location in a place that sleeps a large group......Zatara is a great option!

Anniversary Celebration

The location of Zatara was perfect for us. The view was spectacular and the ocean just across the street was accessible for all three generations. The house had ample room for everyone to be together and allowed personal space for all. The house needs some maintenance. We didn't mind the dated aspects of the house as long as everything was clean and functioning. This is where help is needed. For example, the carpet/tile threshold of one bedroom has exposed nails which is a safety hazard. The bathroom rugs are worn and slip on the tile floors which again is a safety hazard. There are two open holes on the two decks . . again a safety hazard. There are other areas of defered maintenance such as the blinds in one of the bedrooms with an ocean view are broken and thus could not be raised so the ocean view was lost. The toilet in the half bath ran continuously. The refrigerator light was out and the wheels on the dishwasher lower rack are missing making it difficult to use the dishwasher. The carpets need to be cleaned as there are larger stains, especially in the Master. The above mentioned items should not be expensive to address and would make this home a return destination.

Ladies Getaway

My girlfriends and I spent a lovely October week at this home in Pacific Grove. Even though most of us have been to Monterey/Carmel before, this vacation gave us the chance to enjoy the quaint little village of PG. The oceanfront location is perfect to capture the sea breezes & views of the bay. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the upper balcony watching the sea otters play in the waves. We each had our own bedroom, (there are 5) and 3 baths, so we were each comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with basic items. There was plenty of room in the home for us to enjoy our meals, conversations and card games. Definitely a vacation home to come back to!! One suggestion to improve in the future might include more staple items in the kitchen. There were very few spices, no storage bags, foil, etc., Also it should be mentioned that the driveway is extremely challenging to maneuver a mid to large type of vehicle.

Amazing!

Wow! This home is amazing! The moment we walked in the door, we knew we had found the perfect home base for our girls getaway weekend. The location is perfect -- walkable to a lot of what PG has to offer -- and directly overlooking the water. Wow! We all loved falling asleep (and waking up) to the sound of the waves outside the windows. The kitchen was awesome, and there was plenty of space for us all to spread out. We hope to come back again soon. Thank you for a fabulous stay!

Perfect company retreat

We rented this property for three nights to get our company together and get on the same page. The property provided the perfect mixture of quiet focus time and opportunities to socialize. Our family of 10 (7 adults, 3 kids + 1 dog) had the pleasure of staying at Zatara for a family vacation this year. We had the most amazing experience. The house was extremely accommodating and we all were extremely comfortable. Can't say enough about how well equipped this house is; from all the amazing appliances in the kitchen to all the gadgets and games for the kids.
