My husband and I along with dear longtime friends stayed here for one week. Before we arrived the hostess/owner (Sandie) was in contact with us recommending points of interest, time and distance to travel there and recommendations for convenient airport for arrival. All of this was an indication of what was to come. This owner was on site and her presence made the experience all the more authentic. Although Sandie was from San Francisco her heart is in Lucca. Her love of the area enhanced our stay as she made enthusiastic recommendations with complete knowledge of the best way to get to where we wanted to go. She was instrumental in making our stay all the more wonderful. The house is beautiful, the bedrooms spacious and the bathroom was large and had a big shower! No problem sharing. Went to sleep with the sounds of the river and awoke with the sound of the birds. I still remember the peacefulness of it all. Small village for walking, good nearby restaurants and you are near to big cities. Need a small car to maneuver the narrow but manageable villiage roads as you leave for excursions. My husband enjoyed a day of flyfishing and I a day of learning some Tuscan recipes. Special spot.
This amazing villa is absolutely perfect for a vacation in Tuscany. First, let's start with location - is ideally located close to practically everything, Florence, the Chianti Region, Pisa, Cinque Terre, the Tuscany towns of Volterra, Siena, San Gimignano, and my most favorite - Lucca. The villa itself is in an idyllic hill town located right next too a musical babbling stream and surrounded by greenery and olive trees. This is the epitome of living the local Italian life. Second, are the villa facilities. This 100 year old stone villa has 3 bedrooms, one sitting room, a spacious and well appointed bathroom, all decorated nicely with antique furniture and very comfortable beds. You really couldn't ask for more (and I am quite fussy about places to stay). The villa is sunny and bright with shuttered windows and both upstairs and downstairs patios for sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Downstairs is a comfortable and inviting front room and dining room for use by guests. There are wonderful local restaurants and places within walking distance for an espresso or a glass of vino. Last but not least is the ambience. The owner and hostess (with the mostest) is Sandie. An expat from San Francisco, Sandie has a passion for living in Italia and it comes through with everything she does. Her knowledge of the area, things to do, and places to see is outstanding and she is the best resource you could find. She is kind, intelligent, and entertaining, just have a glass of prosecco with her in the late afternoon and you will find yourself enticed by her charming nature. What more could I say - you simply must make this your next vacation.
What a great location and hostess! Sandie is amazing, though very involved in your stay and does like to hang out and talk, and the house is beautiful! It is a perfect location to visit most all of Tuscany, only 20 minutes from Lucca and 1 1/4 hrs from Cinque Terre (our favorite, we highly recommend it). Pisa Airport is only 40-50 min away too. You will definitely need a car to explore the area, and there is only 1 parking space located on the property. The villa is located in the hills of Tuscany with views of olive trees, mountains, a clock tower and village. There is a quite stream that runs right by the house and a pool next door for your enjoyment. Sandie provided ironed linens, towels, soap, hairdryer, Qtips, and more. The breakfast was good. We had fresh fruit, pastries, coffee and juice. There is a small "bar", aka coffee shop, and a small market right down the street. There are 2 amazing places to eat near the house; a pizza place (very, very inexpensive), within walking distance, and a nice restaurant back in the hills that serves wild boar, though it is only open on Saturday nights. The only negative thing I can say is the wifi was very poor. I highly recommend this property for an amazing stay in Tuscany. You will not regret it, especially if you want to stay in a quite location in a very small village. Loved it!
this villa was in an ideal foothill setting. It was peaceful and quiet yet close to Pisa, Lucca and other Tuscan attractions
You will need a small car if you stay here. The hostess can transport you to/from Pisa airport and Lucca train station, but that car is essential for sightseeing
The bedrooms were large and comfortable. The guest bath was large with plenty of space for storage
The hostess is very knowledgeable about the area and can direct you to sights and restaurants
I loved waking up to the sound of birds and church bells. I also loved sitting out on the front lawn at the end of each day with a glass of fine Tuscan wine
Last June, I made my third trip to this lovely villa, and this time, I brought two family members. I feared that they might not like the quiet, village atmosphere, rather than a bustling city. But I found it better than ever, and they loved it. Sandie is a large part of the charm of the place, because she is so much fun, so gracious, and so knowledgeable about and in love with the area. She continues to add amenities that contribute to the charm of this century old villa. You can look forward to a peaceful, lovely experience of the countryside of Tuscany.
This was my fourth trip to Italy but my first trip to Tuscany. I was truly impressed with the location of this charming villa. ( By car, Lucca is 15 minutes a away, Pisa is 20 minutes away and Florence 30 minutes away.) The villa is a 100 year old refurbish building which has all the amenities of modern day living. Pieve di Compito is a quaint town which has 2 fabulous restaurants, friendly local people and a beautiful rustic church. I especially enjoyed getting to visit with Sandie...what a hostess! Sandie was born and raised in California. She speaks Italian. Sandie knows about the region of Tuscany. She can help you figure out where you would like to visit or point you in the right direction. Or, you can relax, read a book, sip Spumante and enjoy the vista from the 2 balconies and beautiful villa grounds My experience in Tuscany was fantastic due to the villa and the owner.
