Dieses charmante Cottage ist Teil eines Winzerhauses, das seit mehr als 7 Generationen in unserem Familienbesitz ist. Es wurde 2015 renoviert und befindet sich am Ufer des Canal du Midi, der zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehört, im charmanten Dorf Somail. Mit seinen 2 großen Schlafzimmern, jedes mit einem Doppelbett und einem Einzelbett für ein Kind, ist unser Ferienhaus ideal für 2 Paare oder eine Familie.

Returning visitors

We wanted to revisit the area and this particular property. It has everything we need, is spotless and perfectly situated with easily walkable restaurants all around, as well as a little shop on a barge where you can pick up your croissants and wine. Your host Nicole is also delightful, knowledgeable about the area and extremely helpful. Highly recommended.

Lovely location and perfect accommodation

Great location on the canal

Wonderful relaxing time

Location ideal, very peaceful, easy to drive to towns, cities and shops (if you want to!), excellent host, great local walking and cycling either canalside, villages or countryside, local barge/shop/bakery 50m, parking easy, you can just sit on the front patio watching the boats and cyclists go by knowing they are looking at you with envy. A great holiday!

The gite was impeccable, stylish and supplied with every conceivable comfort. Our host was very kind, knowledgeable and great company. Restaurants are within walking distance of the property and river swimming (for the intrepid…) too! There is much to explore with local markets, the coast line and the canal itself. A great holiday!

Couldn't be better

A lovely place to stay. Incredibly clean, comfortable and well appointed. Terrific hosts - welcoming, generous, but not at all intrusive. Perfect location - private setting, with a great view of activities on the Midi Canal. Nice assortment of restaurants steps away and in nearby villages. This rental sets an extremely high standard for all VRBO facilities.

This was excellent

You can go ahead and book this property with confidence. This is ideal for two couples the bedrooms were huge and the bathrooms great. This is well located on the canal easy walk to four restaurants and a small epicure. Thank you so much Nicole you rescued a potential disaster, the week in Paris was great.

Absolutely perfect

This is the perfect location, particularly if you have dogs, come out of the house turn left and you are on the canal path. The village is a 2 minute walk away with a selection of restaurants. The house was really lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

So Relaxing

An excellent choice. Right by the canal, to spend many happy hours just watching the boats go by. There were only two of us, so plenty of room. Very well equipped for a self catering holiday. Bedrooms are huge, as are the beds, which were very comfortable. Shower rooms large and super clean. Welcome pack amazing, and further items during our stay. Where to start! Location: right alongside the Canal du Midi in a very quiet part of the village - yet only a 2-minute walk to the beautiful village centre. Le Somail is gorgeous. There are so many places to visit - beaches, historical sites, pretty villages, the mountains . . . The gite: wonderful! Full of character, charm and provided with everything you could possibly want. The pretty garden is rich with plants and trees, and has lovely garden furniture. The bedrooms are very spacious with each having an ensuite. The gite is beautifully clean and an excellent size. The host, Nicole: what a truly lovely person. She was always ready to help and so friendly and welcoming. We had a fantastic holiday, and will definitely be returning!

A beautiful gite on the Canal du Midi

The gite is located on the bank of the Canal du Midi in an idyllic setting. The owner Nicole greets you warmly on arrival and explains all of the facilities and provides lots of suggestions for places to visit and eat out. Nicole also surprised us with some eggs from her own chickens. These were really tasty and a nice touch. We would highly recommend this gite as it is located in a great position to explore the local area. Simply a superb place to stay. This would be our number one choice if we revisit this area. Comfortable Home on the Canal Midi

The two weeks we spent in this immaculately clean, completely outfitted comfortable home were a delight. The rooms are spacious; kitchen and bathrooms recently renovated to modern standards. Nicole and Michel, our hosts, live in the main house, featured in the photographs, next door to the rental portion of the building. They were respectful of our privacy yet generous, having treated us to fresh eggs from their hens on a couple of mornings. The village of Le Somail has an authentic, historic feel to it and the Canal du Midi provides endless entertainment for anyone interested in things maritime.

What a lovely gite! Beautiful location, on the Canal du Midi at Le Somail. Very friendly owners.

The gite is very well decorated and furnished - plenty of room - modern fittings and equipment - air conditioned (it was very hot while we were there in mid-June - in the 30C plus range, every day) - quiet garden terrace at the back - another sitting-out area in the front, overlooking the canal. The owners, Nicole and Michel, live next door - Nicole is/was a Brit, so language was no problem. Both very friendly and helpful - Michel brought us home-grown apricots and fresh eggs. Le Somail is a lovely village - centred on the canal, with many boats to hire or just to watch going by. We enjoyed a village fair weekend, with dinner (very nice), music and dancing, until very late. Great evening! Highly recommended!

Perfect canal side location

What a delightful Gite in an outstanding and quiet location on the canal du midi, great view to wake up to in the morning and also to enjoy the front terrace area with a glass of wine in the evening . With options for al fresco dining at both the front and rear of the property, and restaurants close by this makes for a very convenient location without the need to drive far.The accommodation is well thought out, impeccably clean with quality crockery, cutlery and glassware (often overlooked in rental accommodation). The Gite is very spacious and has all the modern conveniences in the kitchen that you would want for home cooking if you choose to prepare your own meals, a bonus was the surprise delivery of freshly laid hens eggs from the owners hens next door and made breakfast even more of a delight. I would certainly not hesitate to return to this beautiful Gite and superb canal side location. Nicole and Michel the owners live next door which was a great bonus as they have taken great care with their Gite to ensure a comfortable stay, which is not always the case in properties that are managed remotely. Parking was a bonus too, available adjacent to the property.

Very nice holiday home in Le Somail

There are lots of positives about this place. The house has three clean, nice bathrooms, quick wi-fi, microwave, oven and all the cutlery you'd want. Overall, a very nice, well-maintained flat, even some basics like salt, dishwasher tabs, etc were provided. If you spend time sitting out front, you will be photographed from the other side of the canal, it is a beautiful setting... Nicole and Michel are very nice and helpful, the verbal induction and the information folder in the house provided lots of suggestions with regard to restaurants, day trips, etc... and we even got fresh eggs in the morning. Le Somail itself must have the highest per-capita density of restaurants with five eateries within walking distance (you could walk on your hands, really, the furthest place was about three minutes away). The village also has a little boat where you can buy fresh baguettes and croissants in the morning, fantastic. Some things to improve on are the relative lack of comfortable chairs... the two arm-chairs were in high demand between the three of us. Also, the room cleaning fee of 50 EUR was mentioned, but rather far down the small print, as was the 200 EUR deposit against damage.

Thank you for your comments. Message received loud and clear! A further armchair will be added to the living room where people often prefer to gather although there is seating for 5 in the separate sitting room. I'm sorry that optional cleaning costs and the security deposit may have come as a surprise. Both should have been mentioned on the website page and in the booking conditions when you originally made your reservation. I am afraid that we are a little old fashioned concerning the €200 refundable deposit, but again this is clearly mentioned (in red!) on the first page of your 2 page contract sent to you 2 months prior to your arrival. Your message though will help to dispel any misunderstanding. You obviously took a lot of trouble to give a detailed, honest and unbiased account of your stay . Reviews like yours help us to maintain and improve our stardards and we are sincerely grateful.

Schönes Haus- tolle Umgebung- sehr nette Vermieterin

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Ferienhaus ist top, alles da, alles sauber und dazu sehr gemütlich. Die Lage direkt am Canal Midi ist wirklich schön, die Baguette morgens gibt es auf einem Boot , die Bücherei - sensationell! Dazu kommt eine sehr, sehr nette und zuvorkommende Vermieterin. Gerne wieder!

Wir sind begeistert

Das Ferienhaus in Le Somail ist eines der besten, das wir je in Südfrankreich besucht haben. Nicole hat uns bei Ankunft mit sehr leckerem Wein, Eiern aus eigener Produktion, Butter etc. ausgestattet und uns freundlich alles im Haus gezeigt. Sie ist in bester Weise eine Gastgeberin, die zur Verfügung steht und uns mit guten Informationen ausstattet, ohne jemals aufdringlich zu werden. Das Haus ist vorzüglich ausgestattet und ist so sauber und ordentlich, wie wir es noch niemals in anderen Unterkünften erlebt haben. Der Standard entspricht auch dem höchsten Anspruch. Die Lage direkt am Kanal mit Blick auf die vielen Hausboote und die romantische Brücke ist perfekt. Im Ort gibt es mehrere Restaurants, man kann zu Fuß eine urige Badestelle im Fluss Cesse erreichen, an der der Canal du Midi über den Fluss mit einem Viadukt geführt wird. Wir konnten auch Tage im Haus und fußläufiger Umgebung verbringen, ohne einen Ausflug mit dem Auto zu den vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten der Region zu unternehmen. Nicole hat auch zwei 1er Kajaks, mit denen man wunderbar über den Kanal gleiten kann. Wir kommen wieder :)

Urlaub direkt am Kanal du Midi

Wir hatten eine wundervolle Woche in der schönen Unterkunft von Nicole direkt am Kanal mit Blick auf die berühmte Brücke von le Somail. Nicole war eine fürsorgliche und verlässliche Gastgeberin. Sie hat uns gut versorgt und wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Immer wieder eine Reise wert

Wir waren dieses Jahr schon zum 2. mal in dieser tollen Unterkunft. Die Lage direkt am Kanal ist wunderschön. Das Haus ist auch bei den vorbei fahrenden Boot ein beliebtes Fotomotiv. Wir klappern gerne Weingüter ab. Das kann man von dort auch sehr gut tun. Eine Woche ist fast zu kurz.
