Host was very kind and welcoming! We stayed four nights and loved every minute. Kitchen had everything we needed and more. Pool was fantastic and the views incredible with beautiful sunsets. Emerald Adobe was exactly what we were looking for. The 180 ocean views and sunsets are absolutely stunning, and the private pool makes it the perfect place to relax and take in the scenery. It truly feels like luxury glamping, with a comfortable air-conditioned bedroom—though we often preferred falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.A four-wheel drive is a must, and the small 4WD we rented worked perfectly. Next time we might fly into Cobano and rent an ATV, and definitely pack light.April was incredibly helpful with local tips and even guided us to a spot where we saw scarlet macaws in the wild, which was unforgettable. A beautiful, private getaway with breathtaking views.

We loved our Stay here!! The views cannot be beat. Sleeping with just the patio screen door open each night and listening to the waves was amazing! The place is a mix between rustic and quaint. The outdoor kitchen was great for cooking and it felt like we lived in the treetops. It was very private and allowed for clothing optional enjoyment alot of the time. Only saw monkeys two of the days but you heard them everyday. We spent 8 days here and will be back again! Dont miss your chance to stay. It is a very outdoor environment living so if keeping bugs out of your room is your top priority then i would stay in a larger hotel. You live with nature here and it is wonderful!!

April is the most helpful host ever! Don’t hesitate to ask her anything!! If you are looking for a remote getaway and time to unplug and unwind then this is your place. There is AC in the bedroom but we never turned it on bc sleeping to waves, rain and jungle sounds was so much better. The kitchen and bathroom are inside-ish. Not completely closed off which is just perfect when you love the outdoors! Rent a quad for sure. No need for a car. April arranged quad rental, massages and transport from airport to the house! Hope to be back some day!

Amazing Place to Stay

It was great waking up to the beautiful ocean view, seeing the amazing sunsets over the ocean, and listening to the waves crashing on the beach at night. The gated property was clean and felt very safe. It was also very private. The pool and patio were also great places to relax and take in the views. The host was very attentive.The driveway is a bit challenging to navigate, but typical for the location. There are also quite a few steps from the parking area to the home, but well worth it for the view. If you are looking for a place with privacy and a great view to relax, check this place out!

Clean, amazing view. Great host who had a welcoming present of cold beer and fresh fruit waiting in the fridge. Just be advised that the road up to the house is quite steep and best to have an ATV or car with 4x4 mode. The view is worth it!

I booked this beautiful property. Check in was very smooth and the property immaculate. Unfortunately, my friend had a family emergency and we could not stay the evening but I would highly recommend. The view is amazing and you cant find a vetter spot for sunsets in Santa Teresa

A beautiful piece of hillside heaven

Amazing! Highest house on the hill as far as we could tell :). Outdoor shower and kitchen were so nice in weather, a perfect place to relax and soak in the beach. Would give 6 stars if I could!

I am very thankful when guests love my guest house, the Emerald Abode.. it is very unique and has the biggest views in all of santa teresa..no other property can compare... but, just a quick note to correct a few points in this review.. The house is about 60 meters up the hill, so it is easy to get up and down... and that gives me million dollar ocean views (as some reviews call it), but i am not at the top of the hill.. in fact, the property is on a small knoll so we have no neighbours on either side, creating a very private experience for my guests.. Also to correct that the emerald abode's kitchen and bathroom, including the shower, are in the house, they both have access to the outside and are open air, so you get a wonderful tropical breeze and huge ocean views in all directions..(as my photos detail). And less than a minute down the hill is our public beach entrance, with perfect sandy beaches and amazing surf breaks. it's easy to spend hours in the pool watching the surfers catch waves, or just sit and enjoy the huge night sky and amazing stars.. and some parts of the year you can catch whales out in the distant sea, or at night the white water waves bring with it shinny illuminesense that seem to dance on the shore.. Many guests have enjoy the uniqueness of the Emerald Abode... if it sounds like a good fit for your next vacation I'd love to hear from you..

Home away from home

Perched on the hill above Santa Teresa, the Emerald Abode became our home away from home. Just off the main road, the leg-in driveway to the home is just steps from the beach access pathway. The infinity pool is so nice we found it difficult to choose to leave for the hustle and bustle of town. If you can drag yourself away from the Emerald Abode, try Shambala on the beach. They have excellent food and superb cocktails (try the Mezcal Tere). Finally, get to know April. She’s a sweetheart.

The perfect getaway! We were in awe for 10 days!

The Emerald Abode was everything we imagined and more. April provided everything we needed to make our stay perfect. We felt like we were in our own private little paradise. The plunge pool sunsets were the icing on the cake. We often found it hard to drag ourselves away from the Abode to the many adventures awaiting us in and around Santa Teresa. The beaches were breathtaking. The food was amazing when we chose to eat out and the people were lovely. We will forever treasure our memories of this truly special place. Pura Vida

it's always wonderful to meet such lovely travelers that have enjoyed their stay at the Emerald Abode ... the Emerald Abode is Not for Everyone.. is not a normal north american home, so guests that love it the most are ones that are flexible and want to try something new.. so if you are looking for a vacation that will get you a totally new experience, then i welcome you to check us out... so what is so different ? as the photo's show clearly, this home is an open concept... the only closed in room in the house and equipped with A/C, is the bedroom.. all other areas are open to nature. If you are looking for an unusual experience this might be the perfect spot for you... the house is only 4 years old, and conveniently located in Santa Teresa. It sits above the busy village, so you are super close to stores, beaches and activities, yet up high enough that all you see is the ocean, and surrounding nature, with hug sky's to view the stars at night and surfers by day... away from the busy village below... Not a typical north American Home....if you are looking for a typical NA home, one with a/c in every room and small windows surrounded by even more cement to keep out nature, then the Emerald Abode is not for you.... Costa Rica is ALL about NATURE, and Santa Teresa is very much full of nature. i love sharing my little piece of paradise with travelers, looking for the unusual and lots adventure, with nature surrounding you.. Compared to Tamarindo area ? our area is a very rustic in comparison to a town like Tamarindo where concrete is everywhere, where you could be standing in the middle of any beach town in usa... Santa TEresa and Area is completely different , including dirt roads,no sidewalks ..... I mention this for the few guests that have not liked the Emerald Abode and Santa Teresa are usually those from cities that have every modern convenience at their fingertips and surrounded by shopping malls... Is the Emerald Abode the perfect fit ? 5 star Reviews like this one (and the other 95%) are from guests that are looking for adventure and the opportunity to be somewhere totally different... people that think and live 'out of the box'.. i welcome ALL inquiries of course, but i'm the type of host that wants you to be totally happy here, and so the only way i can help make a perfect fit between my home and guests is to be honest and present the house as it truly is... Beautiful!!!

The Emerald Abode is an amazing way to explore Santa Teresa. It is located above the town with incredible views of the ocean. It is just far enough to get away from it all and close enough to easily experience the ocean, beach, and restaurants. The private pool is a perfect way to cool off in the afternoon. The host was incredibly responsive and was more than willing to accommodate our needs. Waking up to the ocean, exotic birds, and having coffee watching the howler monkeys may have been our favorite part! I really can't put into words how much we enjoyed our stay. We can't wait to go back!

What a view!

Even after going to all the beautiful beaches and on some engaging nature hikes, our favorite part of the day was returning to the Emerald Abode. There we would enjoy watching the sunset from the privacy of the pool. As a matter of fact during the four weeks that we spent at the Abode, we only missed three sunsets from the pool deck. Of course our experience was enhanced by the ever gracious and informative April. Her thoughtful assistance was greatly appreciated and very useful. David & Teri

Great Tropical Oasis

My husband and I were on our honeymoon. We picked April's place because of the beautiful view, the privacy, and safety. Any questions we had April was always there to help us out. She gave us lots of great suggestions for snorkeling. We checked in pretty late because of our flight time and traffic, but April was very accommodating. She had the fridge stoked with fresh fruit, eggs, bread to get us started for the first full day. She even left us a bottle of champagne, which was so very sweet of her. My husband and I enjoyed that on our first official night. Great time all around!

i am originally from Toronto, Canada. i hold a business degree in Advertising and Marketing, and worked in that field and Publishing for over 25 years before i looked to make a change in my life. when i first left Canada i came to Costa Rica in the winter of 1992, (over 25 years) and fell in love with the area right there and then. I purchased a little piece of paradise where i am now living permanently. I am an artist that has a contractor business here, and i also publish our local newspaper called THE DIRT ROAD. i am currently divorced, living on the property in my first home i built myself back then when there was no electricity and no water, with just 3 Costa Rican’s and a lot of luck. I live here permanently with my two dogs, Akun and Nicoya. I am an entrepreneur from the start, when i came to Costa Rica our village had just got electricity so i started our first bakery, called 'la casa Rosa', delivering pizza and fresh baked bread to our very small population...i later moved on to the manager and chef at Star Mountain resort in MalPais...i also had a massage practice and created beach parties for the young tourists in the early years... Shortly thereafter i purchased this property and started building my paint contractors business. In 2009 i started our village newspaper called The Dirt Road. i have worked in the many homes of Mel Gibson as the main Paint Contractor and color consultant here in Costa Rica and MalPais, and well as many other homes of the rich and famous here. I fell in love with our area the moment i saw it, and still believe it is the best part of Costa Rica. over 25years have passed and I'm what most locals refer to as an 'old school' resident. i love it here and especially grateful i can share my love of the village, and the incredible nature with my guests.

I have seen all of Costa Rica in my first 5 years when I came here in 1992 and besides Playa Santa Teresa being voted as the top 5 beaches in the world, i personally don’t think there is a more beautiful beach anywhere. I have watched this area grow from No electricity and No phone lines, and a population of about 30 families, with only 2 little local restaurants, 2 public schools, no banks or even a grocery store; into the current village we have now, which includes 4 private schools, 30 international cuisine restaurants, 10 yoga studios and spas, famous surf breaks, 5 grocery stores, banks, doctors, and a population of over 1,000 families. And i still love it here ! In 2000 I decided it was finally time to buy land, and although i could have traded my car for a piece of beachfront land in 1994, when i started to look for my paradise, i looked to the small hillside that follows our coastline for miles. i wanted to be up and above the growing crowds, but still close enough to be a part of the village. This is a very special piece of land, above the emerald green jungle, looking at the gem of the pacific for miles and miles. I own this little knoll overlooking the best of the best. I have NO neighbors on either side of me, (because I’m on this knoll). I rest about 50 meters above it all, so you can actually see the beach, the palm trees and the surfers catching the waves. Whether you like watching the monkey’s pass by, tropical birds or relaxing with a cup of tea and a good book, or how about a margarita to watch the amazing sunsets, or sit by the pool and stargaze all night. The Emerald Abode is my own private sanctuary, and i'm happy to share it with my guests....it is truly the gem of Santa Teresa for me. this is a non-smoking property.

Over the past 25 years i have had many visiting friends and family, all saying the same thing about my property. Everyone that visits mentions the amazing energy of the land and the truly amazing large views. But it wasn't until 2013 that i decided to build a rental home to share this beautiful piece of paradise with others. So my second home, the Emerald Abode, was designed for the visitor. This Tropical house was designed open air to nature, to take advantage of the amazing views, the sound of the ocean waves 24/7, and fresh air! Each room has a large ocean view, with the jungle below creating an emerald carpet, making a perfect back drop for sitting back and relaxing. Some have said the view inspires, and as an artist i know why. Living outside of the hustle and bustling of the big cities and even our little village here, one can hear the tropical birds and migrating monkeys in the early morning, watch the iguana’s and little gecko’s playing all day, and hear the crickets and tree frogs at night, but the most spectacular part of this property, is to see and hear the ocean 24/7. The rhythm of the ocean is really hypnotic and can roll away even the most stressed situation, making this the perfect relaxing and romantic place in Santa Teresa. Dreams feel possible when you’re sitting and enjoying the Emerald Abode.
