Perfect quiet stay

Peaceful sounds of the ocean day and night. The balcony is as big as the entire condo and very private. Great restaurant next door and convenient scuba diving without having to deal with crowds in town. Walk to town is easy. Looking forward to bringing the whole family in a larger condo next year.

4th Del Sol Trip in 2 Years

Usually we go to Mexico with family twice a year. In December we stay in Puerto Aventuras for a month, but the other trips we stay in Akumal. This was our 4th visit in 2 years in Akumal, and we've stayed at Del Soll every time. The condos are right on the water with a beautiful eastward view of Half Moon Bay. Good snorkeling and swimming; we saw small rays within 15 yards of our beach chairs. We love being able to walk to La Buena Vida for drinks and meals - maybe the most relaxing restaurant/bar on the planet!!! The Corner Store attached to Del Sol has drinks and snacks. You can walk or drive to Lol Ha, another good restaurant. This trip was so relaxing, maybe the best yet. Plenty of rest, plenty of beach time, just awesome. The only downer was checking into the condo and the a/c had not been turned on in advance, so it was about 85 to 90 degrees in there. Took 5 hours or so to cool down so we went to LBV for a beer. Maybe it's a marketing strategy. More selection on the TV would be nice, also, but that is minor. The camarista did a good job every day of cleaning our unit. We'll definitely be back.

It's so great to hear you enjoyed a relaxing and restful time during your stay at Del Sol Beachfront. You may know that electricity is extremely expensive in Mexico. In an effort to conserve energy the management does not turn a/c on when the units are unoccupied. We agree it can be somewhat stifling upon entering the closed condos! We find that opening the front and back doors wide and turning on the fans removes the hotter trapped air efficiently. Once the temperature has cooled off a bit, we close the doors and windows and then turn on the a/c. We will pass your positive comments onto our housekeeping staff - thanks!

Pool closed: we left early.

It brings me no satisfaction to write this review. I'm hoping for a refund instead. We intended to stay three nights and only stayed one night. There were many disappointments and on their own it would not have been enough for us to seek another location but when we discovered the pool was closed we informed the owner of our disappointment and our intent to leave. I realize we live in a Covid-world now, but communication is key. Tell us the pool is closed so we can make an informed decision. The pool is essential for us. Here's the rest of the details: There were ants in the kitchen, the bathroom, and in the bed. The air conditioner was off when we arrived (about 7pm) and it struggled to cool the place. I would have been fine but my husband prefers to sleep in cooler temperatures so we intentionally selected locations with air conditioners. There was no information left for us and the reception was closed. We had to stumble around to find answers like where the pool was (it's several condos down the beach at a restaurant). I finally asked the guard at the gated entrance and he told us about it being at the restaurant and that it was closed. We climbed the retaining wall to see if we could still use it in it's closed condition but it was filthy, both inside and out. It was eerie and felt abandoned. That's when we decided to leave and notified the host. On our way out we saw a man sweeping the steps near the pool so maybe our host reached out to him after we complained but that should be done BEFORE you arrive, not when you express displeasure. I wished it had worked out and we could have avoided the headache of finding another place in the middle of our vacation.

Big sunny balcony right over the beach

We stayed for a week in November. This studio is cozy but and everything two people need, including a kitchenette, a big bathroom with a great shower/whirlpool bath, an awesome bed, and a huge balcony right over the ocean perfect for lounging/sunning/reading. Everything was really private too. The cameristas were great and we never needed for anything. La Buena Vida, right down the street, is a chill, feet-in-the-sand bar restaurant with perfect beach ambience and all the coconut shrimp and mescal you'll ever need. Akumal town is cute and small, but the beach is hopping. We gave this place four instead of five stars for some minor upkeep issues in the room -- broken handle on the bathroom porch, the shower is a little wonky and noisy, screens don't always keep the mosquitoes out, and there is a palm tree that obscures some of the view. These things didn't really matter to us, but other people might make a bigger deal out of it. All in all just about the perfect place for a couple to re-connect without interruption. The stars at night, the beautiful setting, the quiet, and the very reasonable price means we'll be back soon!

Great location and the best balcony on half moon bay. Interesting shower set up...

We had a wonderful time every morning and evening on this enormous and private balcony. The bed was adequate and the service was good. The towels were stained and the bathtub was quite high to swing a leg over for showering. I wouldn't recommend this for someone who is concerned with a possible slip and fall in the shower. Overall it was a great stay and we loved the abundance of windows and old world Mexico charm.

My Favorite Place to Stay in Akumal

I have stayed at Del Sol Beachfront for many years, it is so beautiful! You can't find a better ocean front view. It is so peaceful , always clean and the staff is awesome! The best food around is just down the beach at La Buena Vida.

Great place for a couple

There are many places to stay in Akumal, but as a couple, this was perfect for us. The place was always cleaned everyday, and the grounds were also clean. We wanted a place we could have a private getaway, but a great oceanfront view. Some may complain of the palm trees that block a portion of the ocean, but we thought they added to the view. Most days on the beach it was hard to count a handful of people you could see. The deck was quite large, with plenty of privacy. The lighting at night was nice and the low lights added a special ambiance. La Buena Vida is a five minute walk away, with some of the best food, drinks and prices around. Lunch or dinner, especially at sunset is the place to be! If you are looking for an all you can eat and drink resort, with massive beaches and elbow to elbow people, and must look your best 24 hours a day, this is not the place to stay. Look into places to stay at Cancun or Playa del Carmen. But, if you are looking for a more laid back, old Mexico feel, Akumal is the place to go. You can still snorkel, deep sea fish, dive and even take an evening cruise in Akumal. Rent a car if you want to visit Tulum, etc., but walking around Akumal is a mile to anywhere. There's no late night parties and quite hours are from 10pm to 8am. Look else where if this does not fit your life style. Our stay in the condo was all we needed. We didn't do much cooking, but the kitchen was small, but adequate for us. We were comfortable and felt safe. A very relaxing stay. The pool is between the condo and La Buena Vida, if you choose to use it.

Best Place to Stay in Akumal

We recently came back from our fourth trip to Akumal in the last 11 years. We once again stayed at the Del Sol Beachfront and were not disappointed. We will never stay anywhere else when we go. The staff is so friendly and courteous. The rooms are clean and comfortable. They have great accommodation choices for all sizes of groups and their prices are very reasonable. Half Moon Bay is quiet and peaceful away from the hustle and bustle. They clean the beach every morning. The sunrises are spectacular to watch from your balcony with a cup of coffee. La Buena Vita right next door is a great place for any meal and just a really cool place to hangout and relax. There are also many other dining choices within walking distance. So if you are looking for a great place to stay at a reasonable price be sure to check out the Del Sol Beachfront...you won't be disappointed.

Dream wedding in Akumal

I worked with Heidi, based in the U.S., to plan my wedding in Akumal. The experience my family and friends had there, in addition to that which my now-husband and I enjoyed, vastly exceeded our expectations. I had visited Akumal in 2011 and stayed at Half Moon Bay condos, so I already knew how nice the area was, but everyone at the Del Sol condos were present, prompt in responding to any issues, and so, so nice. Everyone in our wedding group is already talking about coming back :) THANK YOU!!!!

Del Sol hotel

Very clean room (number 7 if I recall correctly) second floor for 4 nights. Tough to cool the entire room with only one AC unit but we acclimated. Good kitchen, good fridge (made ice well). Great to have the water dispenser/jug for water. When it was low it was replaced immediately. Fantastic view from the balconey. Excellent maid service. It was reported that La Buena Vida restraurant was open for breakfast but it was not (low season) so we had to scramble for breakfast. Local stores had all we needed. Too bad about the Sargasso but what can you do. We were able to scuba dive though.

Love Del Sol

My husband and I just spent a fabulous 8 days at Del Sol Beachfront Condos and Hotel. It is his third time staying there and my fourth. We Love It! When we first started vacationing in Mexico we did the all inclusive thing then some friends talked us into staying in Akumal at Del Sol (formerly Vista Del Mar). We will not be going to an all inclusive ever again. The Condos and Hotel are right on the beach and have everything you need. We usually stock up on groceries on our way to Akumal and prepare some meals in our room but if cooking is not your thing you can walk down the beach to La Buena Vida and eat wonderful, fresh and delicious food. The food at La Buena Vida is better then anything we ever ate at an all inclusive. If you want to venture out on a scuba trip there is a dive shop on the property. Or you can grab some snorkeling gear and explore the coral reefs that are right off the shore. The property is well maintained and the staff is always going the extra mile to keep it looking good.

Beautiful and peaceful condo right on the ocean

This place is so lovely. It has a nice little kitchen and a corner store down below. The bathroom has gorgeous ocean views and is spacious, and the bedroom opens onto the balcony with incredible ocean views. You can listen to the ocean all night with the screen door closed to keep the bugs out. The balcony is basically private, unless you stand on the northeast corner and look for attention. From the balcony you have gorgeous ocean views, and you can snorkel in coral reefs right out front--we even saw a juvenile sea turtle right out there. The staff is awesome and so kind. Everything was cleaned daily. We rented bikes and rode around the beautiful, peaceful, small beachside part of Akumal, from the dive shop at the south end, to La Buena Vida almost next door for fabulous Mexican food, and Yal Ku at the end of the road for snorkeling in a lagoon. We will absolutely go back over and over.

Anniversary Trip

Loved being in Akumal away from touristy Cancun. This condo was even better than the pictures. The bathroom and balcony are huge and very private and the entire property is extremely quiet at night, which was a pleasant surprise. The security guard on duty was always very helpful and friendly, even said he would notify us at night if there were any turtles hatching. The balcony at this condo is AMAZING. On clear nights our favorite thing was to watch the stars from the balcony while listening to the waves. Then we'd eat breakfast on the balcony while watching the sunrise. The kitchen was small but well-equiped and drinking water was provided. The bed was comfortable and clean. Lots of closet space and storage, which we didn't really use, but would be great for more long-term stays. Half Moon Bay is a bit rocky and didn't have the best snorkeling but maybe this changes with the season. We walked to Akumal Bay aka Turtle Bay (about a 15 min walk from Vista Del Mar) at least twice a day for snorkeling and eating at restaurants (bikes are available for renting if you don't want to walk). Turtle Bay Bakery (Lucy's ice cream) and the Loncheria were our favorite restaurants and the cheapest (we tried some of the fancier places in Akumal and the food was not nearly as good). We did snorkeling on our own (no guided tours) and saw plenty of turtles, fish, even a sting ray and a squid. There is more to do at Akumal Bay than Half Moon Bay (dive shop tours, shops, restaurants), but Half Moon was definitely more private and quiet. If we ever travel to Akumal with our kids we'd probably stay at a larger property with kid-friendly activities but this was the PERFECT place for our anniversary trip. Thank you Vista Del Mar, my newest "happy place"! Also- charity plug- if you stay in Akumal check out the Hekab Be Biblioteca (Library) right before you get to the arch. It is run by volunteers and they are in great need of donations and art supplies for kids. (google their blog and they have a wish list).

slow paced oceanfront getaway

Fantastic beachfront condos. Helpful staff in a charming quiet little town off the touristry strip. Great price dor a very nice condo. Unlimited bottled water comes with daily made service. You will either need a car or plan to walk close to two miles to the highway to catch public transportation. If you want to stay in the little village of Akumal, you can get a taxi from the airport and then just rent a bike ($1/hr) or walk to the market, laundry, restaurants, and bar. If you so rent a car, beware of the scammers at the gas stations, they are geniuses at ripping you off and have a lot of tricks up there sleeves. Be very alert, and watch their every move!

Very special place!

My husband and I stayed at Vista Del Mar for our anniversary and absolutely loved it! We fell head over heels in love with Akumal and Half Moon Bay. We feel so lucky to have found Vista Del Mar. It is a true gem and very special. The people are kind, warm and welcoming. We felt as if we were staying with family. We are already planning a return trip and will go as often as our schedule and budget will allow. If you are looking for posh and lux accommodations then this may not be for you. But if you love the beach, you will be in heaven here. I really could go on and on. We cannot wait to go back! BTW, do not miss La Lunita. The food, ambiance and location are unbeatable! Cheers!

Great value and staff!

This was our third stay at Vista Del Mar. You will be hard pressed to find a better value on the Riviera Maya, and the view -- you are literally at the ocean's edge looking over beautiful turquoise waters -- is spectacular. VDM is perfect for folks who are not looking for the amenities or the "newness" of a resort. Our first week, we stayed in a lovely second-floor oceanfront studio with a huge deck, large bathroom and perfect privacy. We were so happy on our deck, we barely left the place. The kitchen is quite small (tucked away street side so as to maximize the views from the bedroom and bathroom), but fully functional with everything you need. We moved to a 3-BR/3 bath condo for the next three weeks to accommodate visiting family. A/C available in all rooms, but we only used it once or twice in March. Here you have an open plan kitchen/living area with the same spectacular view. The third (street side) bedroom is small and dark, but it does have its own balcony. If you're not the type who likes to rise with the sun, you may even prefer it. Again, the key word here is "value" - if you are a family with kids/teens, these condos are a great option. The management was even kind enough to move us to a lower floor when my elderly parents arrived. The staff at VDM are truly wonderful - discrete but attentive if you need them, happy to let you be when you don't.

Great Couple Getaway

My husband and I just returned from our 11 day outing here at Vista Del Mar. Best relaxing vacation in years. We usually go with other couples but this year it ended up just he and I so we went for this VRBO. I was holding my breath when we arrived but was pleasantly rewarded when we opened our room. This was just what we wanted; a simple but clean ocean front with great ocean view all the time and affordable. We are not big on commercial and tourism and would rather have a more simple, quiet retreat...this was it. Here's what we liked about it: Ocean view was great! accessibility to the ocean was great! Their Buena Vista restaurant was a 3 min. walk down the beach which we went to almost every night. There was great snorkeling between the lagoon Yul Ku and the Akumal beach which were each a 15 min walk or a short 5 min drive. And the privacy of this studio apartment was great! There it is! We rented a car right from the airport, drove right to the hotel using their directions and enjoyed peace and relaxation for 11 days.

This was our third stay at Vista del Mar and our first time in the one-bedroom studio. It was extremely roomy and comfortable and we absolutely loved the large, private deck with hammock, chaise lounge chairs and table/chairs. Having early morning coffee and seeing the sunrise was one of our favorite things. There are many things to do in the area from great restaurants, wonderful scuba and snorkeling, sightseeing the various Mayan ruins, or just sitting peacefully on the beach. Bring sunscreen! We will definitely be returning and hopefully soon.

Del Sol Beachfront is centrally located in North Akumal, yet private and romantic. The studio is bright and airy and has an uncluttered feel to the decor and layout.
Half Moon Bay is right outside the door and the waves will lull you to sleep at night.
There is a convenience store nearby, as well as receptionist at our office from 8 am to 5 pm daily.
