Overall a pleasant place

UPSIDES: The home was clean and well-equipped. The beds/bedding were very comfortable. Although we did not cook, there were plenty of pots, etc to do so. TV was a 'smart tv'. which was nice. Parking for two cars was convenient. Noise level was very acceptable.

DOWNSIDES: Not particularly convenient to 'downtown', although there were enough places to eat within walking distance. Needed to bicycle to downtown.

The home was not particularly 'kid friendly' outside. On a narrow, well-traveled side street, there was no place for young children to play. There is no back yard, and no yard in front. Very tight housing on either side, and in back. Thus, no real privacy on the exterior of the home. We'd recommend for adults, but not particularly for kids. Luckily one of our children, has a home within walking to distance to downtown and the beach, although it is too small for the entire group. We spent most of our time there. We stay again, without kids!

Vermieter-Kommentar: Three out of 5 stars?? A two star reduction for things that are beyond my control?? I think this guest liked my house but not Manhattan Beach. Most of my guests believe the short 15 block bike ride along the beach (bikes provided by me) or 20 minute stroll to downtown is an enjoyable and positive experience. I'm sorry and surprised these guests didn't know about the housing density in what's called the sand section of Manhattan Beach. All the homes are on narrow streets with 8 feet setbacks. That's just the way it is. You might as well complain that there's too much sand. In the Sand Section It's a rare property that has any front, back or side yard. If a yard is what one needs, the Manhattan Beach tree section is only another mile or two farther from the water than my house (not walking distance). As for being kid friendly, those of us that raised our kids a 4 minute stroll from the sand called the beach and the water our playground. We actually have a K thru 6th school just down the street for the many children in the area. I guess it's all about what one is used to. If I visited Scottsdale, where my guests were from, I'd have to learn to tolerate the heat and sandstorms. I liked this guest but allowed the review window to expire so didn't rate. I would have given an all thumbs up however.

Good space for family or two parties but beat up and needs maintenance

We selected this property for its proximity to a family member's home and didn't expect it to be luxurious, but were disappointed in its poor condition. Most concerning were the sliding door to the back patio, which was missing a latch and "secured" with a flimsy board that still permitted the door to open 6 inches, and a missing smoke alarm in the upstairs living area. When we connected with the owner just before check-in, he told us the ceramic soapdish in the upstairs shower and the handle to the downstairs frig had both JUST broken. And we had a pretty ugly plumbing issue our first afternoon there that flooded the downstairs bathroom with sewage from the toilet while taking a shower in the upstairs bathroom. The water in the entire house was turned off till the plumber could get there and clear the line to the street. (The plumber mentioned this was the second time this year he'd been called to do so.) In the owner's defense, he was quick to call a plumber. While he couldn't stay until the plumber arrived and assured us that we didn't have to stay either, we weren't comfortable leaving our things in a poorly secured home with various crews coming and going. The plumbers and cleaners did arrive within a couple of hours but the whole episode took more of our first day there than we'd have cared to spend on it. We also did the initial cleanup of the sewage which backed up from the toilet. I requested some reduction in the price of our 3 day stay but had no response from the owner. If you're looking for a home with this configuration and in this location, you could do worse, but don't expect too much. However we should all expect to be able to lock a unit when away and asleep, have prescribed safety features in place, and not expect to have a toilet back up when taking a shower (particularly when it had happened previously).

Vermieter-Kommentar: I can be found on multiple vacation rental sites with nothing but five star reviews for location, cleanliness, condition, convenience and communication. I have never had a negative review in the many years I've been providing vacation rentals. I have been booked every day all Summer and am now booked most of the Summer 2018 mostly with happy repeat customers. I don't claim my house to be Luxurious and it's price reflects that. It is a great comfortable beach house. These guests giving me this negative review and asking for a reduction in the price apparently forgot that I, at their request, gave them an early check in the day before. While I can never account for any one person's view or feelings about me or my house it certainly is not entirely as they've described. What is true is that there are numerous smoke alarms (5 in 1600 sq ft) throughout the house in every room in perfect condition. The missing alarm was redundant and did not create a safety hazard but has already been replaced. The broken fridge handle wouldn't even been noticed if I hadn't pointed it out. The door opens and closes easily without the handle. I do have a piece of doweling as a safety stop for the sliding glass door. It's impossible to open with it in place but I do allow the door to slide open a few inches for ventilation or can be opened wide by removing the wood piece. There is no security issue with the glass door when the dowel is in place. The broken soap dish and the fridge handle (both hard to find items) were on order. There was the unfortunate and unforeseen total sewer blockage. It did create an inconvenient couple of hours. But the plumber and housekeeping were on the scene promptly and the problem was resolved as fast as something like that could be. The suggestion my maintenance discipline is faulty is not true. Things happen. Renting to as many people as I do one can't control what is flushed and put down drains. None of these small issues were concerning nor ruinous to a vacation except the backup. But even that didn't destroy their weekend. Would they have been happier had I cancelled their reservation because of a smoke alarm or a broken soap dish? Perhaps I should have mentioned these small problems three days before their arrival and given them the option of finding something else. Common sense said it wouldn't and shouldn't matter and unimportant in the overall rental. There was nothing I could do about them anyway.

Wonderful holiday.

Our family of 7 rented this house for a whole month. Its comfortable with Plenty of space for everyone. Elder boys enjoyed the space and freedom of the lower unit. Close to beach and lovely walk along the sea front to the pier. Eveything we needed was there i.e bikes,beach chairs , surfboards.

Montie was great.

We have rented many properties in LA through home away and this one dose not disapoint. Would definitley stay again. Thanks Montie.

This was exactly what we were looking for and a great value. Montie was an excellent host and has the place stocked itch all of the necessities for a beach vacation. We highly recommend staying here.

We really enjoyed our stay!

Units was clean, beach was close. The owner was very helpful. Made our get away perfect. Food on area is great. Just over all a wonderful home, location and time at the beach. We used both upstairs and downstairs unit for grandparents and son with 3 years old upstairs, our other son and his wife downstairs. Perfect fit for our family

Im Norden befindet sich Marina Del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades und Malibu. Der Sand und Radweg ist nur ein Zehntel von einer Meile von der Haustür dieses Hauses. Downtown Manhattan Beach ist nur 15 Minuten zu Fuß. Es gibt eine Reihe von lokalen Restaurants nur wenige Minuten entfernt. Ein Auto ist nicht eine Notwendigkeit, sondern könnte hilfreich für diese Tätigkeiten aus dem Bereich sein.
