This was the perfect spot for our stay on the Amalfi Coast! The property is spotless, and the views are priceless. Luigi (the owner's son) was a perfect host. He arranged for a driver to pick us up to bring us to a restaurant at night because the driving in the region is quite difficult for tourists, especially at night. The location was great - there is a path that leads right past the front door that can take you all the way (and it's a loooong way) down to the water.

Disappointment and misrepresentation

After a number of successes in apartment rentals, this was our first disappointment. First and foremost, access to the apartment is extremely poor - a long walk on a very steep incline...much of it on "stairs" of uneven cut stone and mortar from the nearest parking and or public transport access point. (The owner totally misrepresented this when I inquired about this before making the reservation, saying it was only several steps away. Actually, it's at least 5 minutes or so.) Several features of the apartment were not there/working when we arrived (took several days for the microwave to appear but only after we pointed out to the owner that it was in their marketing of the property, a copy of which I had with me! On arrival, they said it wasn't part of the deal!), the wireless wasn't working (fortunately I had an ethernet cable to hook up one laptop). While the owners were "nice" and pleasant and mitigated some of the downside of access by toting our luggage back to the car on departure, it was simply a very unpleasant situation from the get-go. Had we been answered truthfully about location/access, would never have rented in the first instance.

Spotless apartment, close to Amalfi

We spent one week at this holiday apartment and were greeted by Matilda, the owner's daughter. Matilda's english was very good and we appreciated her help. Anna Maria and Roberto were gracious hosts, we were also treated to fresh vegtables from the garden by grandpa! The apartment inside was very spacious and clean! With the exception of the shower, which is very tiny about 2'X2', unfortunately there were no lounge chairs, as the listing states, which made sitting on plastic chairs in the afternoons not very comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the terrace, which has a restricted view of the port of Amalfi by a Hydro tower, shed roof and grape vines. There is also a house in front of the building with a water tank and a turbine vent on top of the roof which you have a full view of. The pictures in the listing do not reflect the true view, I would recommed that they be updated, however it is still very nice. There are 26 stairs to the "street" and 80 large scales, plus some incline without stairs, so it is a difficult climb up from the apartment. I would not recommend it for elderly people or families with small children, and you better not have a lot of luggage (as we did). The parking that is "included" is on the street, which is fairly quiet, but there is opportunity for secure parking for 30 euros per week, which we prefered. We found driving on the coast very "Italian", being from Canada we decided to take the bus. The bus stop is about 300 meters down the hill,(after all the stairs) and runs very sparsly, the last bus going down around 2:00pm and last coming up at 7:00pm. There are no grocery stores near by, only a fruit warehouse where in the evening you can by fruits and vegetables for a great price. If you drive, the location is good, close to all the Amalfi towns that you will want to visit. Thank you for your hospitality in your beautiful country! Cecilia and Perry...Canada

Uns hat es wunderbar in der Unterkunft gefallen. Roberto hat uns herzlich empfangen und auch Luigi war fĂŒr uns jederzeit erreichbar. Es gab einen Parkplatz fĂŒr unseren Mietwagen, der Weg von dort zur Unterkunft ist mit Koffern anstrengend, war es aber auf jeden Fall wert! :)

Sehr netter und hilfreicher Kontakt

Leider konnten wir aufgrund der Corona-Krise die Reise nach Italien noch nicht antreten. Aber dank der wunderbaren Gastgebern konnten wir unsere Buchung unkompliziert verschieben. Die Gastgeber haben immer schnell auf unsere Nachrichten geantwortet und uns in diesen Zeiten immer ein gutes GefĂŒhl gegeben. Spartanisch, kaum erreichbar, Fotos geschönt

Die angebotene Wohnung ist kaum zu erreichen, da man viele Stufen und schrĂ€ge FlĂ€chen ĂŒberwinden muss. Nach vorhergehender Info des Vermieters " Parkplatz am Haus" war das fĂŒr uns sehr enttĂ€uschend, ebenso wie die sehr spartanische Einrichtung der Wohnung, Polsterauflagen fĂŒr die verrosteten LoggiastĂŒhle gab es in Billigversion erst auf Nachfrage. Die VerstĂ€ndigung mit dem Vermieter ist unmöglich, solange seine Tochter nicht im Hause ist, mit der man Englisch sprechen kann. Wir waren jedenfalls froh, wieder in unserem gemĂŒtlichen Zuhause zu sein. Die AmalfikĂŒste, Capri, der Vesuv, Pompei sind unschlagbar schön und lohnenswert.

Urlaub juni 2012

Die Wohnung war sehr sauber und ordentlich, der Balkon richtig groß mit einem umwerfenden Ausblick. Die Wohnung an sich ist nicht mehr so eingerichtet wie auf den Photos: in den beiden vorderen Zimmern mit TĂŒren zum Balkon sind die Schlafzimmer untergebracht, das Wohnzimmer im hinteren Teil der Wohnung hat kein eigenes Fenster und wirkt dadurch etwas dunkel, die KĂŒche bekommt Licht von einer SeitentĂŒr. Die Ausstattung der KĂŒche war mir etwas zu spartanisch, aber vielleicht gehen andere GĂ€ste eher essen. Die Tochter der Vermieter hat mir sehr geholfen, da in den ersten beiden Tagen des Urlaubes mein GepĂ€ck verschollen war. Vielen Dank! Die Wohnung liegt ausnehmend ruhig und man kommt nach den vollen KĂŒstendörfern abends gerne "nach Hause" zurĂŒck. Sabine aus Frankfurt

1 ruhige Woche in den Bergen ĂŒber dem Meer.

Die Wohnung und die AmalfikĂŒste sind oben schon beschrieben. Was unseren Urlaub ganz wesentlich ausgemacht hat, waren unsere Vermieter. Immer nett, immer freundlich, immer hilfsbereit. Roberto, der unsere Taschen schleppte, uns aus einer ausgesprochen misslichen Lage befreite, nachdem wir wegen eines unerwarteten Bus-Streiks am Ende einer Wanderung gestrandet waren und uns danach die Touren mit den besten Ausblicken, den meisten Maroni und den wenigsten Höhenmetern aussuchte. Anna Maria, die gleich einen Fachman rief, als wir zu dumm waren, den Heizkörper zu zĂŒnden (war einfach zu einfach!) und Luigi, mit dem zu spielen es unser Kurzer nicht abwarten konnte. Noch nie fĂŒhlten wir uns so warm willkommen geheißen und gut aufgehoben. Wir bedanken uns ganz heftig!

Zauberhafter Urlaub

After a long search we have something with the landlord found the object then. We were completely cordial welcome. The apartment was very clean and nicely furnished. However, at the most amazing was the view of the very large terrace overlooking the sea. Does the description on the website surpassed. The owners treated us with fruits, salad and potatoes. The property is highly recommended, the location wonderful. The only downside was the many steps that had to deal with every day, but we also had the same fitness training. We would book the apartment at any time and thank you again for Anna-Maria and Roberto and her family for their warm hospitality.

Overwhelming view

We found up in the mountains a very quiet and peaceful place with an overwhelming view over the Amalfi coast. The apartment is well equipped an has besides a balcony a private terrace, where we enjoyed our breakfast every morning. There is also a grill and two sunloungers. The owners are extraordinary friendly and helped us with all kinds of things we had to organize. The Amalfi coast during the summer is a busy place and we loved to come home to this quiet place. There you can relax, sit on the terrace or balcony and have a great view very far along the coast - also special at night. We very much recommend this place for spending a great vacation in Italy. Having a car or motor cycle during the visit is helpful because it is situated away from the mainroads.

Peaceful Place!

Villa Matilde is worth to drive the narrow hairpin bends of the scenic road to Tovere and to step down more than one hundred steps leading from the parking to the appartment! It was very clean and tastefully furnished and equipped with all we needed. The entrance was a room with two single beds. From there one can reach the kitchen, the living room, the small shower and another sleeping room with a fine double bed. From both bedrooms one can go out to the large terrace offering a 180°view over the Costa Amalfitana. On the left between a huge house and the flank of the coast we even got a narrow view of the port of Amalfi. Beneath the appartment we could relax in a little private garden covered by wine leafs with two sunbeds, a barbecue and a table with chairs. There was'nt any noise during our stay. Very peaceful place! We were cordially received by Anna Maria and her husband Roberto. They helped us e.g. to find the shops and restaurants 3 km away, to organize a trip to Capri and to hike on the "Path of Gods". So a stay in the Villa Matilde is recommended!

Empfehlenswertes Domizil an der AmalfikĂŒste

Die FeWo ist in tadellosem Zustand und ein idealer Ausgangspunkt fĂŒr Unternehmungen entlang der AmalfikĂŒste und der Umgebung bis Neapel, Capri oder Paestum, insbesondere wenn man mit eigenem bzw. Mietauto unterwegs ist. Einzige EinschrĂ€nkung: Der Blick auf Meer und KĂŒste ist nicht ganz so ungehindert, wie es die Fotos im Online-Inserat erwarten lassen. Uns hat das jedoch wenig gestört, zumal der Preis moderat ist. Die Vermieter sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Amazing Views of Amalfi

When we arrived we were immediately assisted into the house and given an overview on the entire apartment by Roberto's son Luigi. The apartment is very spacious, and equipped with everything we needed it has an amazing balcony with great views of the sea and the town of Amalfi off in the distance. They even left us a small welcome tray with some breakfast items and pasta and sauce for dinner that night. One day Luigi's grandfather met us at the door with plums from their garden and even gave us some basil that we didn't get at the market. We would recommend this place to everyone, it is centrally located and a great place to explore the Amalfi coast from. We would however recommend renting a car as it is about a 15min drive into the town Amalfi and is also a 8-10 min drive to the nearest grocery store. Also be prepared to walk down a bunch of stairs to apartment, but they did help us with our bags which was great. Thank you so much for opening up your home for people to enjoy. Rod and Kari

The overall experience was average. The home was spotlessly clean, and had everything that was suggested on the VRBO website. Our two main areas of disappointment were with the outdoor experience and the number of steps needed to access the apartment. The pictures on the website were not reflective of the outdoor patio, in particular photos 5, 6 and 7 which appear to show a rooftop terrace, and there isn't one. Several photos are from surrounding locations, but that is not uncommon of course. As for the steps, some simple arithmetic: the nearly 85 feet of vertical climb from the apartment to parking is approximately 170 typical steps. For some, this is a great workout and okay, but be aware that when carrying luggage up or down, it is a challenge. Finally, while there is a TV, there is no television input. The TV serves only as a screen for accessing the internet. To some this is not an issue, as you are on a beautiful coast of Italy, however we just wanted to make note as we were surprised. All the views on the site appear to be unobstructed views. The real views had a giant power line to the left and an unattractive concrete roof to the front. The best views were to the right and were very beautiful. Finally, the shower was 2 feet by 2 feet, so don't drop the soap. It is difficult to pick anything up and even trying to figure out where to put soap or shampoo was a challenge. Still, a good value for this area. Hosts were delightfully kind.

Beautiful flat tucked in the town of tovere 15 minutes from the town of Amalfi.

Roberto and his son Luigi where very helpful and accommodating. If you have transportation this is a great spot for a base camp to explore the Amalfi Coast. If you don't have your own vehicle be prepared for pricy taxis or waiting for the bus.

Amazing view

This home was so perfect in every way.. as soon as we got there, we were immediately assisted into the house and given an overview on the entire apartment. The apartment is very spacious, and even more beautiful than the pictures.. we didn’t want to leave. I would 10/10 recommend this place to anyone and everyone, but also recommend to rent a car as it is about a 15min drive into the town Amalfi. Lovely apartment with an incredibly hospitable host

We really enjoyed our time at Villa Matilde. I will start with the reason we have given 4 stars. This was simply the location, it may be my mistake but I believed the apartment was in Amalfi town, but it is in Tovere, which is a smaller town a little further along the coast. This would not be an issue at all if you have a car, but unfortunately we did not. Now on to all the positives! The apartment was very spacious, clean & had some nice touches. Roberto's wife had left us some champagne and biscuits as a special treat for David's birthday which was such a lovely surprise. They also provided bits for breakfast for the first morning & tea, coffee & other extra bits. The view was amazing, the balcony is such a lovely thing to have & the sea looked stunning. The view to Amafi is a little obstructed but still beautiful. Roberto is a fantastic host, he truly could not have been more helpful. He organised transfers for us to & from the airport. We then used buses to travel to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello & Bomerano (to start the Path of Gods hiking trail). There is a bus stop in Tovere (10 min walk from apartment), but the buses are infrequent. There is another bus stop on the main road (about 25mins down steps - medium difficulty) & another which is along the road (sloped - around 25 mins but slightly easier than steps). Roberto provided us with a timetable & it is worth downloading. SITA SUD is the bus company & they are reliable. The Amalfi coast is very quiet at this time of year & as we discovered, rather a lot is closed. As we were not in the main town, Roberto very kindly organised transfers (complimentary) to two restaurants for dinner - La Carcara, - very good fresh fish & they were so kind & helped celebrate my partner's birthday (balloons, a sign & a candle at the end - very sweet). The second was Pizzeria & Gastronomia Mascolo Agerola where the pizza was very tasty & so reasonable! We actually felt like they had only opened for us - but thankfully both restaurants were also doing takeaway! Our last night we wanted to go into Amalfi for dinner & Roberto kindly took us & organised a transfer back which was much more reasonable than a taxi. If you have a car, then this apartment is perfect for your stay as it is near so many of the beautiful towns along the coast. If you don't, please definitely still consider staying here as the buses are great and Roberto is incredibly helpful. There is an intercom to the main house for any questions too

Schoon en rustig appartement met heerlijk uitzicht

Roberto en Maria zijn bijzonder vriendelijke mensen. Roberto was bereid om onze koffers te dragen en gaf ons bij aankomst tomatensaus en zelfgemaakte wijn. Het huis is ruim, mooi balkon. Het is even lopen er naartoe. Als je slecht ter been bent geen aanrader. Voor ons geen probleem. De bonus is dat je in een omgeving zit zonder auto's en met veel rust. De Amalfi kust is prachtig en een enorme aanrader.

un petit havre de paix

Nous avons passĂ© une semaine superbe sur la cĂŽte amalfitaine. Quelle bulle d'oxygĂšne en ces pĂ©riodes de fĂȘtes. Nos h^tes ont Ă©tĂ© trĂšs prĂ©venants et trĂšs serviables. La maison Ă©tait trĂšs propre et la literie de bonne qualitĂ©! Nous avons mĂȘme pu dĂ©jeuner dehors en cette pĂ©riode de NoĂ«l face Ă  la mer! Nous avons Ă©tĂ© enchantĂ©s de notre sĂ©jour et via Italia!

vista mozzafiato

Sono stata in questo appartamento 4 giorni con il mio ragazzo, come non ringraziare il Sign.Roberto per l'accoglienza, la disponibilitĂ  e la cortesia. Ottima Location dove trascorrere giorni di relax e dove godersi un ottimo panorama. Quale miglior risveglio! Ottime le condizioni dell'appartamento e altrettanto ottima la pulizia.. Torneremo sicuramente..
