Charming old world cottage on fringe of Cotswolds

If you are looking for old-world character within easy reach of the sights and scenery of the Cotswolds, this privately owned cottage has been offering the ideal holiday / vacation rental for 20 years. The cottage itself is over 220 years old, grade 2 listed, with plenty of original features, including inglenook fireplace and old elm beams, but it is beautifully maintained, and includes modern conveniences such as full central heating, and broadband equipped computer available for your use. There are unspoiled views from all windows. It is in a very quiet and peaceful village location with lovely countryside surroundings, and its own secluded garden, in a convenient position between Oxford and Stratford upon Avon. It provides excellent accommodation for up to 4 adults plus a child. Cot and highchair can be provided. Note that over Christmas/ New Year, only longer lets will be available. At certain times, we may not be able to accept short notice bookings.

Characterful retreat

Lovely period property, tucked away in a quaint village in the Cotswolds. Beautiful area with lots to see and enjoy, with wonderful weather no need to go abroad when you see England at its best.

A wonderful property with great location

The cottage was wonderful, located in a great little village in the Cotswolds with easy connections to London as well. We stayed with our three (older) kids and had a wonderful time. Great charm and modern conveniences as well. Just nothing negative I could possibly say. Owners were easy to deal with and very fair in every respect.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday at Blue Row. However, I should point out that the cottage in the movie Holiday probably has a missing wall for the director and cameras. Ours definitely has all its walls! And you don't have to trudge miles in the snow with your suitcases. ;-)

Lovely, quiet and peaceful Old worlds cottage

We were looking for a old world cottage and that’s what we had. Beautiful garden, very quiet area, very nice landscape, English from top to bottom. We were hiking, excellent location, visiting chippy Norton, beautiful, lively and good grocery (sainsbury and a lovely organic food store„oats“ eg) hook Norton is lovely, brewery, Sinn inn…, we went to Oxford, Broadway tower , a little children’s farm.. lovely too!and in the middle: quiet oasis blue row! Thanks for having us

Lovely English cottage in an idyllic, country village. Close to everything you need. The hosts Sheila and Bonnie made us feel very welcome and responded to any questions we had almost immediately. They provided everything we needed. We were very comfortable. We would like to go and stay there again. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience English cottage and garden life in a beautiful, historic Cotswold village.

Cosy old cottage, full of character

A lovely old cottage in a pretty, quiet village on the edge of the Cotswolds. The cottage is clean, warm, comfortable and well provided, with attentive owners who go out of their way to make sure you have enough information to make your stay easy. The surrounding countryside is tranquil and rolling, with peaceful (but muddy - take wellies!) walks between charming villages with lovely pubs and churches. Oxford, Blenheim and Stratford an easy drive away. Highly recommended for a peacful break in this lovely part of England

Wonderful Blue Row Cottage

We had a wonderful week in this cottage near the Cotswolds. The cottage is very interesting, everything was like the description. We had all the things we needed: a nice kitchen with all the dishes you need, washing machine and clothes dryer and so on. A very nice garden and everything well maintained. Sheila gave us many tips about Pubs, shops and places to visit. We want to return to this cottage as soon as possible. Thank you Sheila for this nice place !

Dirty house. Doesn’t match the website photos

Filthy dirty. The photos on your website did not match the actual property. The garden was overgrown, couldn’t sit out in it. The house was filthy. Had to clean it thoroughly before we could put our bags inside. The oven was putrid. Had to scrub it. The towels were like sandpaper to dry yourself on. The beds and pillows hard and uncomfortable. In one bathroom I had to step into the bath, then pull a cord to work the shower! Both sets of stairs un safe to use. Lounge old and uncomfortable! Washed crockery, cutlery and glassware before use, all dirty . House stunk! The best thing we did was leave and go else where after two days. Don’t stay there!!!

We are extremely disappointed in your review. As you know, we bent over backwards to fit you in at very short notice. You didn't have the courtesy to raise any issues with us at the time, so there was nothing we could do. You haven't contacted us at all in fact, and have chosen simply to leave an extremely unpleasant and unjustified public review. When the housekeeper asked if there were any issues, you didn't mention anything, but just said you were leaving due to "personal problems". We make it very clear on our website that this is a small historic cottage, more than 200 years old. We give detailed instructions (for example on how to work the shower, which you obviously failed to read), and we point out to everyone that the wooden staircases, old oak beams, etc do not match modern building standards, as well as giving the exact sizes of all the rooms, beds etc. Most people find these features part of the charm. We have never, ever, tried to claim this is a luxury or architect designed cottage. As for being dirty - well, I think the fact that our other many guests have been giving us 5 star reviews for many years speaks for itself. Without having seen your review, we said we would be happy to host you again, but I retract that now. We don't want people staying who fail to read all of our information and study the photgraphs, which clearly describe the cottage exactly as it is.

Pleasant quiet cottage compromised by kerosene odour

With character charm, a verdant garden and situated in a quiet village, this property promises so much. Unfortunately, our experience of staying here for a week in September 2018 means for us we cannot recommend it. The property’s main drawback was the kerosene fuelled hydronic heating system. The boiler is housed inside and emits kerosene vapours into the laundry cupboard where it is located. These vapours permeate the entire cottage with the rooms adjacent to the boiler most affected. When the boiler is operating, the cottage is unpleasant to occupy due to this kerosene odour. The owners are aware of the issue. While they were responsive to our concerns, the odour devices they provided to assist with the smell did not resolve the underlying issue to our satisfaction. Lows: Kerosene odour, washing machine not functioning properly, clutter, no clothes drying rack Highs: Garden, charming cottage, space for a family: lounge, kitchen/dining plus three bedrooms and two bathrooms and separate laundry, great wifi

We are very disappointed that you chose to give us such a negative review, as we bent over backwards to try and help you with a problem you admitted might be partly due to your family having very sensitive noses. The guests before and after you have had no complaints at all about oil smells. At a personal visit from the owner we assumed any issue was resolved to your satisfaction through the use of electric heating as an alternative. The system is not a kerosene system. Following your visit engineers have been in and confirmed there is no problem. The washing machine was working perfectly at the time of your arrival. I can't speak for your view of clutter, most people like the charm of the little cottage artefacts around. The photos represent this. There is a drying rack, in the cupboard that houses the boiler, shame you didn't find it, or ask about this. I hope any future guests will read all the other reviews as well.

Dream Cottage

A week in the Cotswolds in a quiet little village; sound like a dream? It was. This is an OLD cottage but has every convenience that you would need. The OLD part is the charm as inside and outside is like something out the the movie "The Holiday", but without the snow (for us at least). Birds were chirping as the garden was slowing coming into full bloom and cows and sheep could be heard in the distance. Pheasants would appear on our many walks through this picturesque part of the country. This is a small village of about 20-30 houses, very quiet and minimal traffic. There are no shops or pubs here but Hook Norton is a 20 minute walk either along the road or through the paths that are clearly marked (lovely walk) to a shop that has all of your needed groceries and wine and beer. Less that 10 minutes gets you there by car and there is a pub there and 2 butchers. An easy walk to the Boxing Hare, finds you at an upscale pub that does not disappoint. A little further away is the Falkland Arms, a 4-500 year old pub that has character and great food. The cottage is a great base to explore the area whether 1/2 an hour away or slightly more. Apple Play GPS on the car makes it easy to track down your new favorite villages. The cottage was perfect with lots of directions and with help from their assistant Bonnie a great spot to stay. Bonnie was not only a super nice person but in this case a life saver and now a new friend. Heart of Gold. Anything I would change? Nothing comes to mind. This was a great spot and we would not hesitate to re-book.

English Heaven

My wife and I cannot say enough about our stay at this lovely cottage. We chose this location as our get away while attending the Formula One race at Silverstone. It is peaceful, quiet and full of English charms. With cows greeting us from the field next door to sheep in the meadow, it is an idyllic cottage for a laid back experience. Walking paths are adjacent for the adventurous and the single track roads leading into Swerford add something special that illicit a step back in time to a slower, more measured pace of life. Swerford is a small, well kept village with beautiful gardens and window boxes that display the owners desire to keep natures color at the forefront of well maintained stone cottages. The Blue Row cottage is not only full of English cham but is complete with all amenities as described but also bookshelves filled with history, pleasure reading and an armful of local activities and site seeing opportunities. My favorite was a grand book on walking trails though out England that is incredibly detailed. Chipping Norton is a short drive away and has everything that is needed for groceries, coffee shops and old world pubs. The hosts took great care with follow up communication, suggestions and instructions; that made us not only feel at home but also to make us aware that they wanted us to enjoy their little slice of heaven. Our family has traveled to many locations around the globe and use home hosting sites as our gateway to experience other cultures. The hosts of Blue Row did perhaps the best welcoming experience of our many experiences. Special thanks to the caretaker; Bonnie, who came in early to greet us and made us feel as though we had been friends for years. Thank you for everything. It was a memorable time and one we will cherish forever. It is on our list as a place to return to.

Ruhig, idyllisch und sehr gemütlich

Ein wirklich bezauberndes Cottage. Es ist urgemütlich eingerichtet und da es mal selbst bewohnt wurde, ist auch wirklich alles vorhanden, was man sich nur vorstellen kann. Wir liebten die Atmosphäre und fühlten uns wie zu Hause. Der Garten war auch noch ein wenig nutzbar vom Wetter her. Wir waren umgeben von grün und angenehmer Ruhe. Richtig gut zum entspannen. Die Buchung war wirklich unkompliziert und da von uns recht spontan, war die Abwicklung wirklich toll. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich, humorvoll und sehr entgegenkommend. Falls uns was gefehlt hätte, wir hätten nur Bescheid geben brauchen.

Ein gemütliches, schnuckeliges und bestens ausgestattetes Cottage in sehr ruhiger Lage!

Das Cottage ist bestens eingerichtet, überaus gemütlich und bietet beste Erholung und Entspannung nach einer Wanderung oder einem Tagesausflug. Das Wohnzimmer mit der Kaminecke und den Sofas ist ein Hit. Mehrere Schlafzimmer im ersten Stock, zwei Treppenaufgänge, zwei Badezimmer, Waschmaschine, Kühltruhe etc., und eine hervorragend ausgestattete Küche, dazu noch der Garten. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Die ruhige Lage abseits der Städte lädt zum Entspannen und Wandern ein... Wenn man ein Auto dabei hat: alles bestens!

Fantastisch

We hadden een heerlijke vakantie. Het was echt zoals een oud cottage eruit hoort te zien. Pittoresk en erg rustgevend.

Wat een geweldig huis in een prachtige omgeving

Amazingly peaceful!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It is well-appointed, private and set in beautiful surroundings. Good grocery options within a 10 minute drive. Walkable to 2 pubs (bring a flashlight though in case you are out late!). Would definitely stay here again if given the opportunity.

Our first trip to England and the Cotswolds

The cottage was everything advertised and the location was perfect for touring the Cotswolds. Bonnie was able to let us check in early which was greatly appreciated after a long flight from Atlanta. The cottage had everything we needed and was very cozy and quiet. We were within 10-30 minutes driving distance of many of the small towns my wife wanted to visit with Chipping Norton right down the road. We even had nice weather with lots of sun and very little rain during our weeks stay. We made one trip into London and saw all of the things we wanted to see. There are many hidden gems not far from Swerford such as all of the local footpaths we came across and the the views of the sunset at the Rollright Stones in West Oxfordshire. Thank you Sheila and Bonnie for offering us this cottage for our much needed family vacation where we were able to relax and enjoy what England has to offer

Lovely cottage in quite location in east reach of local attractions

The owner was extremely helpful prior to the holiday providing lots of information to help us get the most from our stay. We were met at the cottage by the friendly housekeeper who had put up Christmas decorations. The cottage is in a quite location but only a short distance from Chipping Norton with good facilities.

Lock down relief

This was our first trip away after months of lockdown. It was hugely enjoyable. The cottage is set in a lovely quiet village in the countryside. It’s a beautiful location with wildlife all around. The cottage is well equipped with a surprising amount of space. As restaurants and pubs were only open for outside dining (and it was cold!) we catered for ourselves and spent cosy evenings after long walks in the comfortable lounge. We are both so grateful for the chance to experience a restful week away from our locked down lives.

Hi, I'm Sheila. This lovely cottage has been in our family for nearly five decades. Over the years we've restored it, keeping as much of its historic character as possible, but adding in more modern features for comfort and convenience.
This was our family home for many years, our children grew up in it and loved it, then it became more of a weekend retreat. Now the children have grown up and moved away, and sometimes bring their own children. But we can't spend as much time as we'd really like to in the cottage ourselves. But my younger daughter said - you can't sell it, we've too much emotional investment in the cottage! So for the last 20 years we've been letting it for holiday lets, so other people could enjoy it too. We have a local person to look after it for us. Many of our guests come back several times, and some want to stay for a long time.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

Well, we've said it all really. When we arrive after not being there for a while, a wonderful feeling of peace and calm comes over us, we can forget about the cares of the world. And reading through our visitors' book, it's clear that many of our guests experience that too. It's a real 220+ year old cottage, with lots of charm, and roses and camellias around the door. You will be woken up not by the noise of traffic, but by the birds, or by the gentle lowing of cows in the nearby field. On summer Sundays, bell-ringers from other places often come to ring the church bells. But we've got broadband, the local towns are bustling, and there are so many attractions around that you'll never get bored.

We have so many repeat visitors. Our guest book says it best, and many promise a return visit. Here's a small sample of quotes: A lovely comfortable home from home; What a beautiful cottage in such marvellous surroundings! Very charming cottage - the atmosphere is so peaceful, like stepping back in time to a dreamy romantic period; Great thought and care has gone into making guests' stay as smooth as possible; The surroundings were beautiful and Swerford is so picturesque; The garden is lovely - it's a real treat to look out the window and see the roses; This cottage is so special, we have had a wonderful time coming back here after our wee trips, it's just continues to amaze us.
