Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Alistair Nicol
Hello, I’m Alistair — originally from South Africa, now living in Charleston, South Carolina with my wife and our four kids. Life here is full of energy and laughter, and when we’re not juggling school runs or beach days, we’re usually dreaming up our next adventure or renovation project.
We fell in love with the Asheville area years ago — the mountain views, the vibrant art and food scene, and the way time seems to slow down there. Maple Cove became a passion project for our family. What started as a simple mountain home remodel turned into a full transformation: a space designed for connection, relaxation, and a bit of play. Every design choice, from the cozy reading corners to the outdoor fire pit and sauna, was made with families and groups in mind — the kind of place where everyone can gather, unwind, and make memories.
I’ve spent much of my career building technology and hospitality businesses, but hosting gives me something uniquely personal — the chance to share the feeling of arrival. That moment when guests open the door, take a deep breath, and realize they’ve found the perfect place to stay.
As a host, I care deeply about creating an experience that feels effortless and thoughtful. You’ll find clear communication, a detailed house manual, and a space that’s always spotless and ready for you. Whether you’re here for a family reunion, a couples’ retreat, or a quiet escape, we’ve tried to think of everything you might need — from the morning coffee setup to the evening soak in the hot tub.
Our family still spends time at Maple Cove, and every visit reminds us why we love sharing it with others. It’s peaceful, inspiring, and just close enough to Asheville to enjoy the best of both worlds — adventure and calm. We hope it feels like your own mountain home the moment you arrive.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
We chose this neighborhood because it captures the best of both worlds — the peace and privacy of the Blue Ridge Mountains with the convenience of being just a short drive to downtown Asheville. Nestled in the quiet hills of Swannanoa, Maple Cove sits along a winding, tree-lined road where mornings are filled with birdsong, evenings glow with fireflies, and the stars shine brighter than you ever see in the city.
What we love most about this area is the sense of calm it offers. You can wake up surrounded by forest, sip coffee on the deck, and watch the mist roll across the mountains — yet be in downtown Asheville in under fifteen minutes. It’s close enough to everything you’d want to experience — The Biltmore Estate, the Blue Ridge Parkway, local breweries, farm-to-table restaurants, and craft shops — but far enough to feel like a true retreat.
The community here has a relaxed, friendly spirit. You’ll see neighbors out walking dogs or heading to nearby trails, and everyone waves as you pass. It feels welcoming, safe, and connected to nature in a way that instantly slows your pace.
We also love how the location gives guests endless options. Some mornings call for hiking at Catawba Falls or Warren Wilson trails, while others are perfect for a slow brunch and a stroll through Asheville’s River Arts District. Families love exploring Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, or the Western North Carolina Nature Center, all less than 30 minutes away. And when you’ve had your fill of adventure, returning to Maple Cove feels like coming home — quiet, cozy, and surrounded by mountain beauty.
For us, this neighborhood isn’t just a location; it’s a feeling — one of peace, connection, and discovery. It’s where nature, comfort, and community meet, and it’s the reason guests tell us they feel immediately at ease the moment they arrive.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
What makes Maple Cove unique is how it balances luxury, comfort, and connection. It’s not just a large mountain home — it’s a place designed intentionally for families and groups to gather, unwind, and create memories together. Every space, from the expansive decks to the cozy corners, was built with that in mind.
The home itself sits quietly in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just twelve minutes from downtown Asheville, offering rare privacy without sacrificing convenience. Inside, you’ll find seven thoughtfully designed bedrooms, two full kitchens, and multiple living areas spread across three floors — enough room for everyone to relax and still feel connected.
What truly sets Maple Cove apart is the combination of wellness and fun. Guests can soak in the outdoor hot tub under the stars, unwind in the Finnish-style sauna, or gather for movie nights, pool games, and ping pong tournaments in the converted game room. Kids love the custom bunk room, while adults appreciate the high-end finishes, modern kitchens, and tranquil primary suite.
Every detail was considered — premium linens, warm lighting, open-concept spaces that bring people together, and amenities that invite guests to slow down and enjoy each other’s company. The home feels equally suited for a family reunion, a couples’ retreat, or a small corporate getaway.
And then there’s the setting — the soft mountain views, the morning mist drifting through the trees, and the way the sunset glows across the decks each evening. It’s a place that feels both elevated and grounding, where guests often tell us they spend more time than planned simply enjoying the house.
Maple Cove stands out because it was created not just as a rental, but as an experience — a space built with heart, crafted for connection, and inspired by the beauty of the mountains that surround it.
