The Habitat House on Halsey Street

Thank you for the thoughtful review, Ande. I'm glad the house worked well for your group and that you had a wonderful birthday weekend together. I also appreciate your comments about the bones, pelts, and vintage saws displayed throughout the home. For more than 25 years, I've worked in Oregon's parks and natural areas, where environmental education and interpretation were central to my career. Many of the items in the house reflect those interests and experiences. My hope has been to share a bit of Oregon's wildlife, natural history, and cultural heritage in a way that sparks curiosity and conversation. As a new vacation rental host, I'm still figuring out how best to do that. What is currently on display represents only a small portion of a much larger collection. My long-term vision is to rotate different specimens and artifacts in and out over time, much like changing exhibits in a small museum, so that I can share more of the collection without overwhelming either the house or the guest experience. In hindsight, I realize that without interpretive information or labels, guests are left to make their own assumptions about what they're seeing. Providing more context about the specimens, their stories, and their connection to Oregon's natural history is something I'm actively working towards.
