Welcome to Crab Cakes Cottage on North Captiva Island, your perfect getaway destination! Nestled on a tranquil street, just a leisurely 5-minute walk from the beach, this charming cottage offers a serene and spacious retreat for you and your family. The house is 3bed/1.5 bath with a large outdoor deck to enjoy the sunshine! Dogs are welcome and GOLF CART INCLUDED! High speed Starlink internet added in June 2025. The property also recently underwent a full exterior renovation and is now managed by new owners who reside nearby in southwest Florida.

FEATURES:

-TWO OUTDOOR DECKS
One of the standout features of Crab Cakes are its expansive decks, located on the first and second floor (loft area)! The first deck is equipped with a convenient gas grill, allowing you to savor delicious BBQ meals in the refreshing island breeze. It's the perfect spot for family gatherings and dinner after the beach.

-THREE BEDROOMS (two bedrooms, 1 loft)
Crab Cakes offers a comfortable sleeping arrangement for up to six guests. Two rooms are located on the main floor, and one is located in a private loft area on the second floor. The main floor boasts a welcoming master bedroom with a queen-sized bed. For the kids or extra guests, the second bedroom features a twin bed with a pull-out twin trundle, providing cozy accommodations for a good night's rest. The private loft area on the second floor offers a queen bed and a deck with a partial water view.

-1.5 BATHROOMS AND OUTDOOR SHOWER
Crab Cakes features 1.5 bathrooms, ensuring convenience for all guests. After a day of fun at the beach, take advantage of the enclosed outdoor shower – a guest favorite! The half-bath is located on the ground level next to the laundry room, convenient when you return from the beach!

-LAUNDRY ROOM
The laundry room is located on the ground floor, separate from the main level of the house. It is equipped with a full washer/dryer and is air-conditioned.

-GOLF CART INCLUDED
To explore the beauty of North Captiva Island, Crab Cakes provides a 4-seat golf cart for your convenience. Cruise around the island with ease, a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the island's natural wonders.

-DOG-FRIENDLY
We understand that your furry friends are part of the family. At Crab Cakes, dogs weighing up to 50 lbs. are welcome to join your vacation adventures. Please note that an additional $150 pet fee applies (per pet), and there's a limit of two dogs per reservation.

Great house close to the beach!

Owner was exceptional to work with! Received prompt assistance upon arrival to help transport our luggage. Golf cart was a huge benefit to explore the island. North captiva is such a special island; we cannot wait to go back!

Pros:centrally located, golf cart amenityCons: broken small dishwasher, no water pressure, a little older, not sufficient trash bags to follow the 10 checkout rules - we had to beg for some from the locals since there are no stores

Good Bad Ugly and an FYI

Good:Property owner and property manager both were responsive.House was ready and we were allowed to check in earlier than listed time which was very appreciated! The house has amenities that help feel at home. Dog friendlyThe process was pretty smooth.House was comfortably decorated, rules and instruction posted on fridge, beach gear and golf cart all helpful. Location was close to Mangos pool and the beach. Bad: A/C units are VERY loud!! No, we did not call the property manager for several reasons: 1) they ALL made the same noise so clearly not a defect for fixing.2) Several reviews read before booking indicated this as an issue, clearly the owner has already been made aware and they are still loud, perhaps the model?Also, in the master bedroom there is a light on the a/c unit which is like a bad Nightlight that you can’t turn off. The water pressure in the inside shower was HORRIBLE. To say low pressure would be an understatement. (Again read previous reviews) 4) water smelled like sulfur by day 2. I grew up with well water in south Florida- similar but worse. Ugly: There are no less than 3 broken golf carts on the property, 2 are by the crab cakes driveway entrance sign. Also, there are several dead batteries about. (Hurricane aftermath?)A lot of overgrown foliage.FYI- BRING BUG SPRAY, Don’t forget ANYTHING or you’ll end up paying higher than Disney price!! Also, side note for those who care, the mattress’ are firm, really firm.

Thank you for your feedback. Most of these issues were hurricane related and have all been addressed. The yard has been cleared of all the debris (including the flooded golf carts) and a new well water pump has been installed to address the low water pressure. The AC light can be turned off at night by pushing the “LED” button on the remote. We have never received “6” stars in the past…so we hope you will come back again now that both the house and North Captiva Island have recovered from 3 major hurricanes in the past few years. Hi Al… I understand the 3-Star rating you gave our home was due to the water / well pump issues you encountered during your stay. However, I assure you the issue (bad solenoid switch) has been resolved and our guests have experienced no further issues over the past few months. In addition, we did our best to repair the problem ASAP and did respond within the hour, (from the time you notified us of the water problem). I hope you will consider Crab Cakes again in the future… and again we apologize for the water outage. Regards… John

My wife, Teresa, and I fell in love with North Captiva Island after visiting the area for a day-trip. After long searching for a beach property that we could call our own (in addition to an area that would be welcome to our two Border Collies, Ivy and Apollo), we decided to purchase Crab Cakes Cottage in September of 2021. Despite the difficult 12 months following Hurricane Ian, we not only repaired the damage but have given the cottage a complete exterior renovation. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!
