Welcome to Casa de la Cruz, nestled on 12 acres abutting Carson National Forest in the hills of Georgia O'Keefe's beloved Abiquiu. Slow down and experience the rhythms of the desert. Watch storms roll over the mountains in the distance. See the Milky Way sprawl above you. Hike in our private box canyon. A spectacular base to explore the treasures of Northern New Mexico including Abiquiu Lake, Ghost Ranch, Santa Fe, Ojo Caliente, and Taos. This is desert life to the fullest!
Casa de la Cruz is down a gated dirt road 10 minutes from the center of Abiquiu and the Georgia O’Keefe Welcome Center. We have cultivated our home as a quiet respite surrounded by the beauty of the desert and invite you to share it! We welcome you to explore this 12-acre property and stunning private box canyon. We ask that our guests use leave-no-trace principles and enjoy this rugged landscape responsibly. The views here are breathtaking and we believe that you will get the same enjoyment, awe, and refreshment that we do from the land.
You will have access to the entire home, 12 acres to explore, and a 2-car garage.
During your stay, we can be reached through the Airbnb app.
Private, gated desert community.
A car is necessary. 2-car garage and gravel driveway for parking.
Access: This property is located down a bumpy and sometimes muddy Northern New Mexico dirt road. It is not recommended for low-clearance vehicles. If possible, when first checking in, we suggest arriving during the daylight as it will make arrival and check-in easier.
Local Ecology: Carson National Forest, which is comprised of 1.5 million acres of wilderness, borders the property. It's not uncommon to get lucky and see desert hares, quail, coyotes, etc. Sometimes insects (or the occasional lizard) can and do get into the house. If this causes undue concern or discomfort, this might not be the rental for you.
Remote Work & Entertainment: The home utilizes Starlink Internet. Digital nomads will be delighted to find a remote workstation equipped with a Samsung M80C 4k monitor, keyboard, mouse, laptop stand, and USB-C adaptor. The workstation is strategically positioned next to a large window so that remote workers can enjoy the scenery of the desert while having everything they need at their fingertips. The Samsung 4k monitor also doubles as a smart TV. Guests are invited to move this lightweight monitor from the remote workstation to the living room when they are in the mood for a movie night. We intentionally do not have a TV permanently placed in the living room because we want our guests to have the option of an unplugged experience.
Fireplaces: This home boasts three fireplaces and an outdoor fire pit. Please be careful to follow the instructions provided before using the kiva fireplace or wood-burning stoves.
Heating/cooling: The home is a true adobe made in the traditional Santa Fe style with adobe bricks, stucco, and giant wooden vigas (beams). This ancient method of building is designed to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. For this reason there is no AC. In the summer, open windows and fans help cool the house by circulating nighttime air. In the winter, radiant heated floors and 3 fireplaces create a cozy environment.
Events: If you are interested in booking the property for photo shoots, elopements, or micro-weddings please reach out.
Views: This property has some of the most beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and night skies we've ever seen. If you are interested in astronomy, bring your telescope!
Cooking/groceries: Our kitchen is well-appointed for cooking a delicious meal. We also have an outdoor Weber grill which is BYOC (bring your own charcoal) and a cooking grate above the fire pit. Bode's historic quaint neighborhood market is nearby in Abiquiu and there are also some delicious local restaurants.
