We absolutely loved our stay in Potrero. Our family of four (2 kids) enjoyed a 10-day vacation in our favorite town. We loved the different beaches (all within walking distance) - all with their own special qualities. I enjoyed picking up fresh mangos at the local farmer's stand. The food choices are all excellent - not a bad meal the entire trip! And the house is gorgeous. The view is amazing in all weather - enjoying sunrises, sunsets, sailboats, and thunderstorms. It's a very special place. The owners and property manager were fantastic - very responsive and kind. The kids (and my wife) were so excited to go boogie boarding so the owners and property manager arranged for two boogie boards to be there! Anna Maria is an absolute doll, keeping the place clean and comfortable. She's so sweet. And the dogs are great! We're do people so it was such a treat to have them hanging around (unobtrusively). We will definitely be back!! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing such a special place.

GREAT Spot — Exceeded Hopes & WAY Better Than Pricier Hotels

The descriptions were spot-on; wonderful well-appointed house…short walk to two beaches (both with requisite howler monkey’s, iguanas, good swimming and NO crowds). The house benefited be great daily cleaning, friendly grounds help (who assisted us in finding driver when needed) and dogs who kept us company.

Great ocean views in modern home

Very happy with our 11 night stay. Amazing views from a hilltop house over an ocean bay. Beach is 5 min walk away. Property is gated and super safe. Cleaning lady comes daily and washes all dishes and laundry. Lots of space inside and outside. Highly recommend.

Beautiful views!!

We really enjoyed our stay at this home. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and was very comfortable. The location was great too. We had a small issue with the water pump on arrival but the host responded right away and the issue was resolved quickly. The host was very easy to communicate with and was always kind. The views from this house were amazing. We really enjoyed them while drinking our cup of coffee in the morning. Highly recommended.

Great Getaway

We communicated weekly with Mindy and if we had any concerns or questions, she addressed them immediately We never did meet the property manager but Anna and Ernesto were the best and took care of all our needs. They were Amazing!! The home has amazing views and we relaxed many days and evenings on the deck. We used the pool daily as it was a nice way to cool off after a long day. The dogs were a treat and we saw them daily also. I want to thank Mic and Mindy again for all the recommendations to restaurants, tours, etc. You can ask them anything and get a great response. Pacific coast review

Excellent location, environment, friendly resposive staff and good communication. We arrived late at night and had difficulty locating the house. The property manager got out of his bed to guide us to the house. The person living on the grounds came immediately to help us unload. The daily maid service with laundry was a bonus. The immediate response to the ice machine being broken was the delivery of 3 bags of ice. This was after i said it wasn't necessary because i had already purchased ice.

Gorgeous house, amazing setting!

From the moment we got out of the car and met Ernesto we immediately felt welcome and at home! The house and deck were amazing, the master shower overlooking the Pacific Ocean was just incredible. We loved having Rusty the dog over just about every day, the other dogs mostly came around when AnnaMaria was there and she was a gem! We watched howler monkeys right from the deck 4 of the mornings - such a treat!!! The house is within 5 minutes of 3 pretty beaches and many more within 20 minutes. We did have some ants and spiders and lizards in the house but that just added to the tropical feel. Did I mention the sunsets? Wow each more incredible than the last. Mindy and Jorge, were so helpful and wonderful! Overall an amazing stay and one of our favorite properties we’ve ever stayed in. We hope to cone back sone day!

Beware of dogs

There is a pack of 5 "rescue" dogs that have the run of the property. One of them bit me on the ankle that is still healing. There is no AC in the main living area, only in the bedrooms. The AC in the master bedroom has a hard time keeping up in the afternoon. A good option is the jump in the pool (unless you have an open wound from a dog bite). Ernesto keeps the grounds beautiful and Maria keeps the house spotless (plus does your laundry!!!)

Amazing location!

We loved our stay here in Potrero! The views were outstanding from the 2 bedrooms and the wrap around deck. It is a really beautiful area and close to the Liberia airport. There are a few low key and delicious restaurants at the bottom of the hill about a 10 minute walk. You will need to rent a car to get around but it is well worth it to see the countryside of Costa Rica. The outdoor pool was very nice to cool down during the hot afternoons and it’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach. Getting back up the hill can be tough in the heat so you may want to drive. The birds and wildlife are bountiful all over, such a picturesque view every morning. You can hear the ocean waves from the house, so relaxing hearing that everyday. If you want a beautiful house away from resorts but the ocean nearby then this is your place. The owners and property caretakers are so helpful, they really try and make your vacation a very memorable time. We hope to come back, we really had quite the adventure, Pura Vida ❤️

Great location!

This is a fantastic location with awesome views. Even the shower had a fantastic view. Although the beach is within walking distance, we drove since we had lots to carry and it was a very steep driveway. Loved all the restaurants and beaches nearby. Felt very safe while we were there. It was extremely hot when we visited--95 most days, which made it difficult to want to be outside, but also difficult to be inside the main area of the house--there are fans, but it was very hot. We had planned to make meals at the house, but due to the heat chose to eat out all the meals instead. The bedrooms did have nice AC!! Mindy was very communicative and offered suggestions. I didn't realize that housekeeping services were going to be there--it wasn't something we needed or desired, but might be nice for some. Ana Marie does a nice job cleaning, but because of the location, you definitely will find ants inside. Manageable, but may not be ideal for some kiddos. Really enjoyed our meal at Reparito House.

Lovely house on the hill

We arrived to this lovely home after a long, hot day of travel. The house large, comfortable, has all the amenities you could possibly need, and feels like a home that is lived in rather than a sparse, barren rental like some VRBOs or AirB&Bs we've stayed in. You can walk to the beaches nearby (Playa Prieta & Penca I think) but the walk back is all uphill and while we were there it was 96-97F and for us it was too hot, so we drove. Our favorite part of this Villa was the outdoor space. We loved the covered cabana area and the pool. It was so nice to be out there looking at the views while in the shade and be able to pop in & out of the pool. The main part of the house is not air conditioned, and it was too hot for us to sit in the living area, so we moved outdoors instead in the evenings. The bedrooms do have AC, the beds & pillows were very comfortable, and we slept great! Besides the pool, my other favorite thing about this home was the master shower with large windows giving views down to the ocean. We personally found having a housekeeper/groundskeeper on property while we were there a bit uncomfortable. Ernesto & AnaMarie were kind (no English) but we'd have preferred to not have them there sweeping, cleaning, doing our laundry while we were on site trying to enjoy our vacation. It would have been better for us to not have them at all during our short stay, or for them to have come in while we were out. Overall, I would recommend staying here.

Amazing house, amazing views!

The views!! We stayed here for a week over the new year and it was fabulous! This house is close to beaches, shops and restaurants. Did I mention the views?? It does sit up on a rather large and steep hill…which is how you get those amazing views! My husband and I were fine walking up and down it and did so for exercise. Our children (9 & 12) didn’t really enjoy it but they did it. If mobility is an issue for some, the hill can be challenging. There was some visible dust (I have a dust allergy) on the TV and glass top table. No big deal, I just cleaned them as cleaning supplies were plentiful. Ana Marie comes everyday to clean up and do laundry. She is so sweet! Ernesto is the property caretaker and he is very kind as well. I only know enough Spanish to get by and it seemed to work when communicating with them. Love that there are plenty of books stocked in the house and plenty of cooking supplies. Also, loved when the dogs came to visit. They are timid and very sweet. The birds are so fun to watch in the morning and afternoons. Renting a car is a must. It’s very easy to get around in your own vehicle. This was our first trip to Costa Rica and I’m so glad we chose this location. We will definitely be back! Pura vida!

So much to love!!!

Portrero is a small town that allows you to be close to some restaurants and shops but not surrounded by tourists. The home is on a hill allowing for a fabulous view. Having Ernesto the caretaker on the property really gave us a sense of security. There wasn't the feeling of having to keep all of our belongings put away and locked up as we had at other rentals. The house is gated and Ernesto and the dogs are there. The dogs are a neat touch, such characters. Rusty was our favorite! In addition, there is Ana Marie who tends to the house. We arrived to the villa after 5 days in Costa Rica. I handed Ana Marie a huge laundry bag of dirty clothes and she didn't flinch. She washed and folded all laundry, did dishes, and cleaned up after us daily. So nice, making it feel like a true vacation. The beach was 5 mins walk. We often went to Prieta. It has beautiful water and some great waves during high tide for boogie boarding. We saw howler monkeys, butterflies, hummingbirds, and toucan. In fact those howlers woke us up some mornings. The house has everything you need and want at a great price. I would recommend doing the lazy lizard boat ride in Flamingo, so fun!! The owner and agent were very responsive and helpful. The house has a great layout and is beautifully decorated. This house is a gem for so many reasons!

Perfekte Unterkunft

Sehr schönes und gepflegtes Haus mit tollem Garten und phantastischer Aussicht. Alles entspricht den Bildern und der Beschreibung. Die Küche ist sehr gut ausgestattet, die Betten sind in gutem Zustand und es stehen ausreichend Sessel und Stühle zur Verfügung. Lediglich zwei zusätzliche Liegen wären schön, da es tatsächlich, wie auf den Bildern zu sehen ist, nur zwei gibt. Die Hunde sind, wenn man sie ignoriert, nicht so aufdringlich, wie man aus einigen Bewertungen schließen würde. Man kann sehr gut in 5 Minuten zu Fuß zu den beiden Stränden Penca und Pietra gelangen. Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten befinden sich ebenfalls in unmittelbarer Nähe. Unser Lieblingsrestaurant war das Marco Polo. Alles in allem eine schöne und gepflegte Unterkunft in einer für Badeurlaub perfekten Ecke von Costa Rica.

Location !!! Local !!!

We had special requests that the host graciously assisted with. It was exactly the together time we needed. The driveway was steep but we could have gotten a car. A waitress at Las Brasis referred us to a driver and he took us wherever for 10 to 20 dollars. Just loved the local spots. Not asPrivate as weHad hoped but I think it was because of the dry season thinned out the vegetation. The property could use some updating. LOVED. Location and locals. Would love to go back. Could use some air in the living spaces.

Absolutely dreamy. Costa Rican perfection. Second time here. Ernesto and Ana (caretaker and house cleaner) are wonderful, helpful and lovely. Mindy (host) is super responsive and goes above and beyond. This place is perfection. Right mix of everything you need to feel pampered, while feeling laid back and casual. You feel like you’re in luxury, without feeling nervous the kids are going to break something. The walk to the beaches is dreamy. And the beaches themselves are perfection. It’s starting to feel like our home away from home.

We had a great week at this house overlooking the ocean. A couple of minor issues that were addressed very quickly by the property manager (eg new hot water heater installed). The location is fantastic and the view is great. The onsite caretakers were wonderful, cleaning the pool, making beds, doing laundry and dishes. We really enjoyed our stay.

Short walk to 3 beautiful beaches and the town of Potrero where we enjoyed several breakfasts at the local Soda and a variety of meals at the many restaurants offered.

3 beaches

We are 2 couples in our 60’s. The set up of the house was perfect for us. We each had a bedroom on the end of the house. We did have a 3rd couple join us for 3 nights and they stayed in the lower bedroom. If we’d been 3 couples staying the entire time it might have come down to drawing the short straw to see who took the lower level bedroom. The property is set up on a hill - therefore the view is spectacular! We did not rent a car so we used Uber or we walked everywhere. The hill would be a climb if you are not in good physical shape. We walked all 3 of our beaches daily and really enjoyed that. We also spent lots of time under the gazebo or in the pool. The purpose of our trip was to rest, relax, and enjoy the heat, good food, and the beauty of Costa Rica!Walking into town along Playa Potrero is a much safer option than the road but check the tide charts. Potrero had many good restaurants and we tried numerous ones but not all of them. The staff at the house were friendly and very helpful. We had to resort to Google translate sometimes as none of us speak very much Spanish. We enjoyed the company of the dogs, especially Bella, as she was most affectionate and happy to hang out with us. Lovely home with a well set up kitchen and as I mentioned, spectacular views. Great to watch the sunset or the boats on the ocean. Our hosts were responsive and helpful and I highly recommend this property.

Great Family Retreat

We very much enjoyed our time in Potrero and this house was perfect and spacious for family of 5 adults. It was nice to have AC in the bedrooms to get ready and to sleep. The master BR and bath are very large and the views are stunning. The kitchen and family room area do not have AC but there are plenty of ceiling fans. The kitchen is well appointed. We spent time on the large veranda and you could not beat the sunset views. The pool area had a covered area with table and chairs. The landscaping is beautiful and we loved seeing the parrots. The best was having daily cleaning and laundry. Short stroll to beach. The hardest part of walk is the steep driveway. There are many great local restaurants in town. Would definitely recommend this house for your stay in Potrero

While on our first vacation in Costa Rica in 2003, we came across this incredible house which just spoke to us on some level. The spectacular views, the privacy, the way it made us feel was just magic. To truly understand this, you'd need to know that we definitely are not the most spontaneous people in the world - and we were certainly not in the market for a house. Yet, by the time we returned home four weeks later, we were proud owners of this property.

A decision we have never regretted for a minute. This is now our home - and yours when you visit - and by the time we get to the top of the driveway, our whole demeanor has shifted to peacefulness. By the time we get to the terrace and sink into a wicker chair, our shoulders have dropped about 4 inches (an exaggeration, but suddenly everything is alright). Many of our guests return year after year and have developed into wonderful friendships and we've become acquainted with many lovely families.

Our home is curated to be warm and welcoming - not meant to be straight out of a magazine in how it looks and feels. We want you to feel comfortable, like you are visiting an old friend - not worrying about sitting on the couch if your bathing suit is still not completely dry ... or wondering if its okay to snag an extra towel if yours is still damp. Enjoy. Anna will take care of you and the house in an unobtrusive way - while Ernesto makes sure the property looks as beautiful as possible.

And if you like dogs, welcome them and encourage them - and you will find them on the terrace looking for your company. If you don't care for animals, no worries, just ignore them and they will head back down to the caretaker's casita.

To ensure your time here is as safe as possible, the home is cleaned before your arrival using disinfectants along with daily cleaning as well.
