Our family was looking for a hands-on vacation with our 2 children, ages 8 and 11. We definitely got that at TVR! We wanted more than just a brush with the horse-experience, chores, etc.,. The description that Jan gives in the overview is very accurate, and the degree of involvement is not limited at all. She encourages the children so much (and Julia, too) that they want to be doing chores every day, and at every opportunity. The kids did NOT want to leave the ranch for 6 days! And, even though guests, we felt like we experienced the rhythm of a real working horse ranch operation. It was a unanimous 10/10 for everyone in our family!

Great Vacation Stay

  • 4 von 5

This was a great place for us to stay. I took my two adult daughters (ages 26 & 23) on a horse ranch trip. This was a great choice. We stayed in Luke's cabin which is a log cabin and a bit rustic so it really added to the experience. It was clean and very comfortable as well as air-conditioned. We didn't do much cooking but it had a microwave, stove and coffeemaker which was great. It has a nice porch with a swing seat. It is very quiet and peaceful. Beware-if you feed the cats, as we did, they will be on your doorstep every minute! Janice and Julia prepare breakfast and it was a wonderful start to our days of horseback riding. My daughter still talks about the breakfast. Janice provides excellent horseback riding instruction and the horses are fantastic. We had never done mountain riding before and we all loved it. The farm animals are wonderful; Nutmeg the llama, Dilly the potbelly pig, Monte the donkey, rabbits, chickens, and three nice dogs that took turns accompanying us on trail rides. We also highly recommend river tubing. It was great fun and very relaxing. We definitely want to revisit next year.

Vermieter-Kommentar: Hello! Thank you so much for such a glowing review. I am so pleased that you decided to bring your lovely girls here for a ladies getaway. They were both so delightful and I was certainly impressed how well you all became "riders" and not "Passengers" on our horse adventures. I truly enjoyed sharing my ranch, pettings animals ( just got a new little of baby bunnies....oh , so tiny!) kittys, horses, trails, breakfast.............everything with you all! You are now Mountain Riding Cowgirls! Happy Trails til next time..............:) JAN

trip

was a neat experience had a good horseback ride through the mountains, did think that the price we were charged for breakfast was a little high. We were charged $10.00 a person to eat at the house. Wanted to change dates because we arrived very late at night due to a traffic problem but she stated she was booked did not see many people the entire time we were there.

Vermieter-Kommentar: Hello Greg, Thank you so much for taking out the time to write the review for me and the ranch. I very much enjoyed you and your family, your daughter was simply delightful. I thought it was nice that we happened to have another family with a young girl for her to hang out with for breakfasts and horseback riding. I am glad I was even able to accommadate with it being the peak weekend of the season. Usually, same day reservations are quite difficult for us. Breakfast is only included in room rate when staying at the lodge and is optional for those staying in private cabin or unit since those units have full kitchen facilities. If you don't want to cook or pay 10.00 for a full country breakfast at lodge then folks can go out to eat with a 2-10 mile drive depending on how fancy you want it to be. I am sorry you were disappointed and apologize if I did not make myself clear when you signed up for breakfast on the phone when making your reservations. Also,I would have been glad to changed dates but every room/unit on the ranch was booked Thur and starting on fri two families checking out and more arriving same day, all ready and anxious to jump on the horses! I do try to carefully match the right horse for each rider depending on experience/age etc.....so therefore our rides are not big rides. Two to six folks on a ride is the norm which actually allows us to specialize more efficient. People do come here to get away and for peace and quiet so it actually pleases me that even on our peak weekend, fully booked , you did not find it crowded or overwhelming. For us, nine for breakfast is a full table! I do appreciate your comments and will hope you may come back again. I know the start of your trip with the hours of traffic delays was not helpful, I am hoping the way home went more smooth. Next time can only be better, I promise to do my part it making it so. Happy Thanksgiving! Janice

Wonderful & Unique Place to Stay in the Smokies

  • 5 von 5

My husband and I stayed in the Cowboy Hideout, which we found to be very charming, clean and comfortable. It had a great little kitchen stocked with all the cookware and dishes we needed, which was helpful because we cooked several times while we were there.

The Twin Valley Horse Ranch is a destination within itself in the Smoky Mountains. There is enough to do here for a fun family or romantic getaway that you wouldn't have to ever leave the property: hiking, horseback riding on mountain trails, fishing, petting and feeding all the farm animals, cook outs and marshmallow roasting at the pond, relaxing and enjoying the mountain scenery. If you venture off the property, Cades Cove is not far away and is my favorite spot in the GSM National Park. There is also line dancing nearby on the weekends, and Janice will take you with her if you want to go. We went and had a great time even though we are novice dancers.

The best part of our stay was the horse riding. Janice's horses are well trained and she carefully matches the horse to rider based on your skill level. We've done several trail rides in the Smoky Mountains over the years, and riding here is a very different and much better experience. This is real mountain trail riding, where you'll be taught some basic horsemanship if you're a beginner (great for kids) and where you can do more if you're advanced. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that you have a chance to "drive," not just sit on a horse who is trained to do nothing more than follow the leader. After the ride, we even got to groom the horses. This was our second time riding here. The first time, we had our two children with us who loved it as much as we did.

Janice, Julia and Nic are very personable and welcoming hostesses who make you feel right at home. Janice was very quick to respond to our request and was helpful in answering our questions.

I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a really special place to stay. We can't wait to return!

Paradise in the Smokies

  • 5 von 5

My husband and I were taking a road trip through Kentucky and Tennessee in October. With no plans, schedule or accomodations - we enjoyed coming upon local surprises! We called for reservation availability and was delighted by Janice's (owner) genuine care and accomodation to make our trip memorable. We were pleasantly surprised by the fair pricing of the accomodations, and were thrilled when we arrived. Everything Janice told us about her property was spot on - and then some! The cabin was charming, clean, decorated with a cowboy theme and the bed was very comfortable. Although we didn't take a horse ride due to visiting the Smokie Mountain Park and departure plans, we joined Janice, her lovely mother and ranch hand, Nik in feeding and grooming the horses. It was a fabulous time! Janice and company really know how to make guests feel welcomed and provide a real ranch experience! With the variety of animals on the ranch, the sweet horses and beautiful landscape, we can't wait to return!
