Circa 1850s fully renovated Vermont farmhouse less than 15 miles from Jay Peak

The Farmhouse

This fully renovated rustic 1850s farmhouse is conveniently located on a main road in E. Berkshire, less than 15 miles from Jay Peak Ski Resort & Waterpark, and less than 30 miles from Smugglers Notch and the nearby Stowe Ski Area.

Nestled in the mountains, yet conveniently located on a main road, this farmhouse has been family owned since 1970, with a completed total renovation in 2022. The property features 4 bedrooms with a total of 6 beds, and 2 bathrooms, with all new appliances for your comfort. Come enjoy rocking chairs on the front porch facing the mountains or a cozy fire pit in the back with a nearby babbling brook.

The labor of love restoring The Farmhouse provides modern conveniences while keeping the old-world charm of the original post and beam construction. All-new lumber was milled by the owner/arborist mostly from local trees. Most of the furnishings and all of the cabinetry, countertops, and vanities have been handcrafted by a local woodworking artisan, again using milled lumber from the locale, thus adding to the rustic appeal of this charming Farmhouse.

Main Floor Layout-

Enter into the kitchen which features a unique open layout with a high-top counter/bar with ample seating, and a custom-made center island, with all new appliances.

Just off the kitchen, you will find the “boot room” with plenty of hooks and room for outdoor gear and shoes. Adjacent to the boot room is the laundry room with a new washer and dryer.

From the kitchen, plenty of seating can be found at the counter/bar, which adjoins to the dining room, and houses a table for six, this large rooms flows into the living room. The cozy (gas-burning) “wood stove” is featured at the center of the living room, with plenty of seating for movie-watching, reading, or playing games.

Off from the living room is the “Saloon Room,” a country motif bedroom with a full-sized brass bed, antique furnishings, and a small closet.

The downstairs bathroom has a full shower/tub, vanity/mirror, and shelving for toiletries. Note: Both bathrooms are supplied with (white) towels, a hairdryer, shampoo, and body wash.

Upstairs –

As you climb the custom-made stairs, you will find a cozy reading nook with two club chairs, should you want your own little quiet corner.

The King bedroom boasts a full-length mirror and a built-in dresser.

The Queen bedroom is outfitted with a poster bed and a built-in dresser.

The Bunk bedroom is a large open room with two full beds and one twin bed, cubbies, and lots of hooks for garments.

A large open bathroom with shower stall and double sink/vanity with a cubby unit for guests’ toiletries. Note: Both bathrooms are supplied with (white) towels, a hairdryer, shampoo, and body wash.

Outside –

The Farmhouse features a large front porch perfect for rocking and looking at the mountains with coffee or cocktails. Around the back of the house are Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit, with plenty of firewood provided.

A babbling brook can be heard from open windows in spring and found on the downslope from the back of the property. Also, guests should feel free to "pick your own" apples at harvest time in the fall from the trees to the rear and west of the house.

Lovely farmhouse!
We loved every minute of our two night stay at this gorgeous, clean, and cozy farmhouse. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking and every small detail was well thought out at this home. No one wanted to leave and it was well worth the 15-20 minute drive to Jay Peak. You will not be disappointed if you stay here!

5 stars all around
This was a wonderful place to stay! The location is great - near restaurants, grocery stores, 20 min from Jay Peak - and the home was very comfortable. There was plenty of space for 7 adults and the kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. Communication with the host was great, especially when we forgot about daylight savings time and needed a slightly later check out time. I would definitely stay here again.

Great VT country home!
We went to Vermont to ski with another family. The house is up-to-date and in great shape! The rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed. The house is pretty convenient to Jay Peak (<20 min.) and the ride to/from takes you past covered bridges. The interior is completely renovated, and the woodwork is great. It is super clean, and the owners were very responsive to any questions we had. We saw deer in the backyard and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

As a young boy, while on a family vacation in the Champlain Islands, my mom found this farmhouse with a working dairy farm in 1970. Back then, the dairy barn was across the street. My parents bought The Farmhouse with only a few acres, but soon after, they purchased the entire 165-acre farm. I was in love with this place from the beginning.

As a youngster, I was always up in the woods; I hiked, snowshoed, and grouse hunted. When my mom had the house gutted and upgraded to a complete 1970's look, I carried the remaining wood scraps and old doors up to a huge hemlock tree looking down into the valley and built a tree fort. I slept in it many nights listening to coyotes. Years later, after I'd vacated, a porcupine took up residence.

I have always loved the outdoors, mountains, and trees, and I have a special love of wood. After graduating from Johnson State College with my B.S. in Ecology, I decided to become a Certified Arborist. My whole life, I've been one who despises waste. In my tree business, any trees that I take down which are mill-able are done so. I especially like odd, unique logs with character.

In 2018, when my wife Joanna and I decided to bring the house back to more of its original form, we decided to have all my mom's '70s upgrades torn out to expose all the original wood and timbers. The house is a true post and beam construction. The entire house was painstakingly rebuilt by an incredible local carpenter/craftsman, including new tables, an island, bath and bedroom units, cabinets, and countertops.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

We love this house and all that goes with it and are so thankful for those who shared their incredible talents and the meticulous care that has gone into the rebuild, making The Farmhouse what it is today. The ruralness and quaint small-town atmosphere captivated my mom and remained with us all these years later. She always dreamed of building a house up on the hill with spectacular views. We eventually saw her dream to fruition, with our primary residence nestled up in the woods. Wildlife abounds, deer, an occasional bear, porcupines, fox, hawks, eagles, and coyotes.

Joanna and I traced the property's roots back to 1843 at the town clerk's office and continue to further our research to define the history of the land. Welcome to The Farmhouse; we hope you enjoy Vermont and even get lucky enough to see the northern lights!

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig

Most of the new wood in The Farmhouse was processed from trees on my sawmill, some local, many from the property itself, and all taken down by me. One job yielded a few short, odd pieces of black walnut that I found so interesting, which our carpenter/craftsman then turned into the kitchen island and the coffee table. When we found that a few of the upstairs floor joists had to be replaced, we did so from lumber I saved from taking down local barns that were to be burned. The kitchen and upstairs bunk room floors were milled from 200-year-old beams.
I come from a long line of wood enthusiasts; my great-grandfather was a forester in Poland, my paternal grandfather was a fine furniture and cabinet maker, and my dad did tree work in the 1940s before chainsaws were widely used. Similarly, our carpenter also comes from generations of talented furniture makers.
