Das Punta Leona Naturschutzgebiet ist die Heimat einer der letzten verbliebenen Primär- und Sekundärwälder, die in der Übergangszone zwischen den Lebens regen Wälder im Südwesten und den trockenen Wäldern des Nordwestens zu finden sind. Punta Leona ist ein bezaubernder Ort für Naturliebhaber, Familien und Vogelbeobachter, die die biologische Vielfalt von Costa Rica kennenlernen werden. Es ist die Heimat der seltenen und gefährdeten Roter Ara sowie über 330 Zugvögel und einheimische Vogelarten. Darüber hinaus ist für diejenigen, die zu Fuß zu lieben, bietet diese Gegend eine spektakuläre Küstenlinie mit mehreren schönen einsamen Strände und Riffe zu erkunden. Einer von diesen, Playa Blanca, ein ruhiger, unberührter, weißer Sandstrand, wurde als nationales Marine-Feuchtgebiet zum Schutz von Zugvogelarten in den Niederungen der Flussmündung und am Strand von Playa Blanca bezeichnet.

We loved our stay! Absolutely stunning setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean and a nature preserve below, with a wide variety of birds and white faced monkeys greeting us each morning.

Clean, comfortable, amazing views from the patio! You are right in the jungle, can spot scarlet macaws and toucans! A close walk to a small quiet pebble beach. Playa Blanca is also close by with sand and great snorkeling. Paradise, photos look like screensavers! Hannia was a lovely communicative host, provided very good instructions and arranged our access to Punta Leona perfectly.

Awesome place and very highly recommended.

Very private. Enjoyed seeing red macaws, toucans and monkeys right from the deck. The apartment itself was very nice and has all the amenities we needed, and more. Hannia was very nice, and at the same time we had complete privacy. Punta Leona is a hidden jewel. It's like a wild life jungle reserve, white beach paradise, and a country-club all rolled into one. We didn't even bother with the country club stuff though. Just fished, soaked at the beach and enjoyed the wild life. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy it Hannia!

Paradise Found

We just returned home from one of the best vacations we've ever had!!! I highly recommend Hannia's beautiful home in the Punta Leona resort, just north of Jaco. The apartment is very private with its own balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean below and surrounded by pure beauty. While enjoying coffee on the deck in the morning (or evening) we found many different birds with great opportunity for photography. The scarlet macaws are easily found, as are tucans, hummingbirds, kingbirds, kingfishers, parrots, frigates, hawks, etc. The whitefaced monkeys are frequent visitors and cute as long as you don't feed them. Hannia did everything to make our stay enjoyable. She was able to arrange for a local chef, Yorleny, to prepare dinner for us for three of our six nights. The food was outstanding and better than two of the restaurants we tried. The location was a little remote, so you do need a car to get there and to get around, but there is plenty to do in the resort with the beautiful beaches, restaurants and bars, hikes and grocery stores that you could stay on the Punta Leona resort for the entire stay. But, I would highly recommend the Jungle Crocodile Safari (junglecrocodilesafari.com) for excellent bird watching and the Carara National Park which are both just 10-15 minutes away.

It was such a pleasure to have Tim and July as my guests! I appreciated their organization and friendliness even before they arrived.It is hard to say enough good things about them. They were extremely accommodating, fun, polite, inquisitive, and appreciative. It was so much fun to talk to them about my country. Their attitude towards our culture and values is highly appreciated. Yorleny was very impressed and happy by their ability to communicate with her who does not speak English. We are particularly grateful for their kindness and willingness to try and enjoy our local food!

Nice studio apartment

The studio apartment was very nice and clean. The deck was literally surrounded by jungle. However, the first day it was quite noisy due to the pool pump kicking on and off. This was corrected by day two. The driveway is extremely steep and difficult to get down with luggage. We enjoyed hearing the monkeys at nighttime.

Ideal comfortable apartment for 2 adults.

There is a nice private balcony. Unfortunately views were obstructed by foliage. But for a better view we only had to sit by the pool. The pool was awesome! Great star gazing. You really need a car to enjoy all the amenities in area. Note that it is a 10-15 minute drive to get out to the main road. The closest beach (under 5 minutes) in complex, Playa Blanca was lovely and there was good snorkeling! Thank you Hannia for the delicious fruit basket!!

Short but sweet stay

The apartment is lovely. We saw a coati, macaws and a toucan from the back porch. We ended up having a family emergency and Hannia was kind enough to let us use her cell phone. You absolutely need a car here, even to get to the beaches and restaurants within Punta Leona. Try to visit Playa Blanca during the week. It was very busy on the weekend.

Third Visit

We have just completed our third visit, my wife and I staying in the apartment, and my two tico friends staying in the extra unit provided. One can feel no closer to nature than here, with the rainforest and ocean at out doorstep, and the local monkey pandilla paying their daily visit. Hannia has again been a super host. I highly recommend this experience for those who want to be immersed in the best of what Costa Rica has to offer

A beautiful view and very clean!

We were so excited to stay in Punta Leona and thought the reserve was lovely but were a little disappointed in the small apt. studio. The futon was just not comfortable for a week and the air cond. was loud at night. Didn't sleep much at all. But everything else was great. It was clean and had a very nice kitchen that was well equipped. We just needed another pull-out or real bed for our college girls. The community and Ms. Hannia Compose are amazing!

I am so sorry to hear that the A/C was loud and other issues that were not up to your expectations. I was not aware of this as no other guests had told me about it. The good news is that the apartment now has a new "state-of-the-art" A/C system. As advertised, this studio-apartment (600 sqft2) is indeed ideal for couples. Parties of 4 are welcome but should be aware of the limitations.

Kalinda Pacifica was just perfect for us. Beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. Monkeys greeted us upon our arrival right outside the door. Close to several different beaches and hikes, the hardest part of our trip was deciding what to do! So many options. Hannia was an excellent host and gave us great recommendations. We cannot wait to return to this magical place!

Amazing stay

Hannia is such a warm and wonderful person and she communicated well before and during the rental and addressed any questions immediately. What can I say about this amazing location. The apartment is well furnished and comfortable. The bathroom is a bit small if you need a lot of room but it worked fine for our family of 4. The views are incredible - ocean, jungle, macaws flying overhead and monkeys in the trees (but not annoying monkeys that come too close). We cooked in the apartment with ease. The facilities at the club house were amazing - free birdwatching tour and butterfly tour, exercise classes and activities like a resort (we did not participate), clean and beautiful beaches and pools. Mini Golf. Lots of things for kids to do. Also there was a lot of security (gates to pass through on the road) if you are nervous you will feel comfortable here. We stayed at 4 places on our trip and the kids said this was their favourite. I would definitely come back to stay with Hannia. Worth noting is the steep driveway and the stairs to the apartment - would not be recommended for anyone with mobility issues.

It was so much fun to have The Brookfields as my guests. I enjoyed their stay a lot! They are such wonderful people. Extremely polite and courteous, easy to communicate with, and most important to me, they get totally immersed, understand and appreciate the environment and culture they are experiencing. Simply Spectacular!!

I’ve visited Costa Rica many times over the past decade and have always been drawn to Punta Leona. But my stay at Kalinda Pacifica has by far been the most enjoyable in Punta Leona. If you are seeking privacy, magnificent sunsets, and a clean and uncluttered apartment — this is the place! My communication with the owner was pleasant and she was always thoughtful and prompt in her replies. Her tips on where to explore off the beaten path were so welcome - especially when you’re seeking tranquility, nature, and beauty. I'm already missing the views from the balcony and hearing the scarlet macaws flying overhead. You will be completely enchanted by this slice of paradise. I’m so happy to have discovered Kalinda Pacifica. I will definitely return and recommend this spot to my friends and family. Gracias, Hannia!

Best Yet

I have visited Punta Leona for many years, and stayed in different types of accommodation, and this has been the most enjoyable yet. Privacy, magnificent views, clean and nicely decorated unit, friendly and helpful owner are just some of the assets of this unit. I visited with two friends from Turrialba, and they stayed in a separate unit that they found to be very accommodating as well. In addition to recommending this unit to those seeking nature, proximity to beach, and tranquility, I also recommend this unit to those interested in nature photography. Instead of standing in a rain forest, looking up and trying to focus with 100% humidity, all one has to do here is sit patiently with a long lens and tripod , and shortly toucans, guacamayas, monkeys etc are visible, and easily photographed Very enjoyable- we hope to visit again next year

I try very nice of the owners, apartment very clean and equipped Place to rest in peace and harmony with nature, for mountain lovers on the beach. Perfect sea views. They will not regret visiting this place, 100% recommended.

Hannia was born in San José, Costa Rica where she spent her childhood and adolescence. She moved to Massachusetts to study at Mount Holyoke College and she stayed for 34 years!! She was faculty at Harvard for more than 20 years where she conducted research on diet and health. Hannia moved back to her come country two years ago to develop programs to improve the diets of Costa Ricans. Most than anything she loves nature, the beach, and her pets. She is passionate about gardening, snorkeling and working with stained glass. Hannia likes her guests to understand, appreciate, and enjoy all the beauty and peace that her home country has to offer.

Hannia started visiting Punta Leona when she was 10 years old and her parents became members of “the club”, a campground that offered potable water and toilets for those who loved nature and the beach. Hannia’s dream since then was to live in Punta Leona…. This dream came true in 2009 when she finished building her "dream house".

I love to be able to walk to Playa Blanca, hike in the nearby forest, experience wildlife, go snorkeling, and listen to the ocean from my bedroom.
