## Neighborhood

Butot is a small village in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy in northwestern France. Part of the arrondissement of Rouen, Butot lies in an area rich in history and culture. The commune is predominantly rural, with landscapes typical of Normandy: green fields, pastures and a few woods.

Butot, like many communes in the region, has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages. Normandy, with its proximity to England, has been a strategic location over the centuries, particularly during the period of the Viking invasions and the conflicts between France and England. Butot's heritage includes a number of ancient buildings, in particular churches and traditional Norman farmhouses.

One of Butot's most notable heritage features is its parish church. Although small in size, this church, like many in Normandy, reflects the local religious architecture, often in limestone and with Gothic or Romanesque elements. The area around Butot is also home to many manor houses and châteaux, typical of Normandy.

Butot is a quiet, peaceful commune, inhabited mainly by a rural population. Like many small villages, it enjoys a peaceful lifestyle with mainly agricultural activities. The inhabitants are often involved in farming or craft activities, taking advantage of the richness of the Normandy soil to produce local products such as cider, cheese (particularly Camembert, famous in Normandy), and other specialities.

Butot is located around twenty kilometres from Rouen, the capital of Normandy, allowing residents to enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside while still having access to the amenities and services of the city.

## Transit

Butot, being a rural village in Normandy, has limited means of transport, but here are the main options for getting around locally and to the surrounding towns:

1. Public transport
Bus: Butot is served by inter-city bus routes, generally operated by the regional NOMAD network (formerly known as the Seine-Maritime network). These buses link small villages to the larger towns in the region, such as Rouen or Dieppe. However, timetables can be limited, especially at weekends and in the evenings.

2. Train
Nearby stations: The nearest station to Butot is usually Barentin or Rouen, which are around 15 and 20 kilometres from Butot respectively. From Rouen, regular trains take you to Paris in around 1? hours, as well as to other major towns in the region.
To reach these stations, it is often necessary to take a car or use a shuttle bus.

3. Private car
Departmental road: Butot is well connected to departmental roads, which allow residents to quickly access neighbouring towns by car. This remains the preferred means of transport in this rural area for its flexibility and direct access to surrounding towns.
Car-sharing: Car-sharing is also an attractive option for Butot residents who want to get around without using their own vehicle. Platforms such as BlaBlaCar make it easy to organise shared journeys to Rouen, Le Havre or even Paris.

4. Cycling
Cycle routes and cycle paths: Although Butot has no urban cycle paths, the small, little-travelled roads in the Normandy countryside are ideal for cycling short distances. The regional cycle routes also provide safe access to other villages.

5. Taxis and VTCs
Local taxis: A number of taxi services operate in the region, mainly from Barentin or Rouen. For a quick trip to a train station or other nearby town, you can use these services, although the cost can be high for longer distances.
VTC (Voiture de Transport avec Chauffeur): VTCs like Uber are not as common in rural areas, but it is sometimes possible to book one, especially from Rouen.

6. Regional shuttles
Some transport operators may offer local shuttles, especially for schoolchildren or for journeys to regional events or tourist destinations, depending on the season.

Each option has its advantages and disadvantages, but the preferred means of transport often remains the car for its flexibility and practicality.
