The River Queen Monte Rio has long been considered one of the premier riverfront vacation rentals in West Sonoma County. Originally built in 1930, the River Queen is a unique blend of historic design and modern convenience. The ideal location for a family reunion, multi-family vacation, work / rejuvenation retreat, book club study, golfer's home base or a dear friends getaway. Highlights include: an enclosed sunroom overlooking the back decks and the Russian River – with three separate seating areas; a large redwood deck with multiple levels, seating and dining areas, and a full-sized hot tub set in a fairy ring of majestic redwoods. The historic home is prominently located just before a deep bend along the river, with sturdy and wide concrete stairs that lead directly down to the Russian River with a seasonal concrete dock. In season, generally late May - September, there are 4 single kayaks, a canoe, and inflatable flotation devices. Located within minutes of Monte Rio, Duncan's Mills and Guerneville for easy access to pastimes such as shopping ( grocery and retail ), wine tasting, the Northwood Golf Club – an Alister MacKenzie designed nine-hole golf course, hiking trails in Armstrong Woods State Reserve, and the Pacific Ocean which offers the unique experience of joining the Russian River as it flows into the ocean before heading up or down the coastline to experience many beaches, state maintained hiking trails and the freshest sea food options in Sonoma County. The house has more than 5000 square feet of living area. A wonderful place for group activities, but large enough for everyone to have their own space to relax and enjoy. Amazing place to stay on the river!! Our group had an incredible time enjoying all the amenities of the place. Only thing to note was there was no shampoo/conditioner or bath products available which would have been nice.

This spacious home is perfect for families! Right on the river with private access, and the views are spectacular from the sunroom. Everyone was so comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. And the hot tub in the redwoods is a treat! Host is super communicative and was so quick to respond when we had a question. Absolutely loved this spot!

My large family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the River Queen. The house offered fun, convenience and comfort for all our ages, ranging from 20 plus to age 83. The “neatniks” in our family commented upon the cleanliness of the rooms and the labeled well-organized kitchen with utensils to spare. Our game players were actively engaged with pool, ping-pong, board games and more. The amazing dining room table accommodated everyone. The view looking up into the redwood canopy while soaking in the hot tub was a special treat. The house offered many cozy viewing spots, a favorite being the river from the sunroom, early morning, coffee in hand. The “homey” decor, highlighted by the jute box, was nostalgic and comforting. The minor glitches which arose were quickly responded to within minutes by our property manager and owner. The access to the river, possible only from the cement dock, did not allow for wading into the water. The wooden steps to the side of the pier did not appear trustworthy; however, most family members were able to jump in or use the ladder and then handle their boats and canoes.We will return to the River Queen! I must say, one of our favorite aspects of sharing the River Queen Monte Rio with our guests is receiving a follow up review of their experience at the estate. Our goal is to balance cleanliness and organization along with comfort and as many aspects of fun and opportunities to create favorable memories as possible. True, accessing the Russian River from our cement pier shown in our photo gallery does not provide the opportunity to wade in, however, many choose to swim or boat across the river and wade from the beach side. On the upside, we are located on one of the deepest bends of the RR in our area, making for extended swimming, boating and floating opportunities longer than most homes in our area. We happily await your return!

This house was so much more than we expected. The location surprised us — we didn't realize it sat right off the main road — but once inside, it felt completely private and tucked away. From the moment we arrived, we felt immersed in nature — like living in a treehouse surrounded by beautiful trees. The sunroom overlooking the river was an instant favorite and we spent so much of our time just taking it all in.The space was perfect for our group of 12. So many bathrooms was a huge luxury with our large group. The kitchen was fully equipped and thoughtfully organized, and our huge group could fit around the beautiful, large dining room table. Between the downstairs and upstairs living areas, the ping pong room, the carport, and basketball hoop, a hug collection of books and games, there was truly something for everyone — and yet the house was spacious enough that people could still find quiet corners to recharge. Honestly, we didn't even get to enjoy everything the home has to offer, which just means we'll have to come back. Thank you River Queen!

The house was very comfortable and allowed our three generations to spread out. The kitchen allowed us to cook our Thanksgiving dinner as well as other meals. The large dining room table accommodated us well. I liked that the large tv on the upper level was up high and out of the way. The hot tub surrounded by trees was especially enjoyed.

Felt like Home

We had a great time here. Lots of space and things to do. Sunroom was gorgeous. Great hiking trails close by. Overall we had a good relaxing time with family and friends.

Big House on the River

Great place for family and friends - every thing we needed. Management was responsive to our needs and the house was in good shape. Would rent again.

The River Queen is simply amazing

What an amazing location - right on the river in a quaint town next to a absolute gem of a golf course. Would love to come back here. Plentiful amenities at the home with lots of entertainment, a hot tub within the redwoods, and the Russian River. Would love to come back!

River paradise

The place is a gem. Spacious home with cabin vibes and great river access. Comfortably sleeps many people and there is adequate place to cook and eat for everyone.
