The owner requests no shoes worn in the house. So we obliged on the first night there only to find our feet were completely BLACK after a short period of time. There is no way the floor had been mopped in months. As we had no way to contact the rental office (closed at 4pm) we had to email the next morning. They offered to send the cleaners back out but we had already mopped the floors ourselves because we had 4 children there and couldn’t have them playing in this dirt. There were multiple ant nests in the kitchen with hundreds of ants streaming in and out of the island to other areas. It was no wonder as when we lifted the area rug in the dining room there was old food and more ants.
The AC was completely under owner’s control and had unreasonable settings. It was 95° outside most of the week yet the thermostat was unable to be changed below 74°. Most days it was 84° in the house. I attempted to get resolution from the rental company but received no response from my voicemail or email. Having small children and 2 elderly family members in our party, we had to resort to our own means which was downloading the thermostat app ourselves. We would have NEVER rented a home had we known we didn’t have control over the temperature within.
For a home that was to accommodate 12 people, the kitchen was very sparse. Pots and pans were of such poor quality Teflon was chipping off. Refrigerator/freezer space was not appropriate for number of guests (most homes of this size have a secondary unit located in the garage). We had to keep a cooler full of ice in the kitchen to store our items. Dishwasher stopped working on last day.
One of the most disturbing aspects of this rental was the “military base” vibe. There were signs of rules posted everywhere and I mean everywhere. Lock these doors even when you’re in the house, children can’t play in certain areas of the yard, no jumping on the beds, do this, don’t do that. A lot of these things were common sense as to respecting someone’s property, but others were just absurd. We were initially insulted but then it just became a joke of the week. Seriously, you have adults renting a home for for the week and you think you need to dictate every aspect of where we can sit or how we can move. Never have I rented a home that I wouldn’t go back to. THIS place— no way would I go back. And there’s NO way we would ever use 1st Choice Properties again in searching for a rental. Better next year I hope
