True and complete oceanfront condo with a lanai (balcony) that almost hangs over the beach. See the ponds below where the turtle and the eels want to come and feed. Let the sounds of the sea make you sleep after a day of sightseeing or relaxation. Both the bedroom and living room face the sea, where you can see dolphins all year round and whales in season.

Hale Kona Kai is an intimate, absolute oceanfront complex of 39 one-bedroom condominiums. Located at the edge of Kona Town, it is off the main road providing for quiet, ocean-view relaxation from every unit. Located just south of Royal Kona Resort, excellent dining at Don the Beachcomber and other restaurants are a bit further into Kona Town. You will find the white sand of Honl's Beach less than a quarter-mile to the south and the Kona Farmer's Market just a half-mile to the north.

The complex offers an elevator that provides convenient access for all. On the ocean side, you'll find a heated saltwater swimming pool and a grill on the south end of the complex. Each floor has coin-operated washers and dryers for your use. Each condo does not have its own washer/dryer.

Each unit includes designated parking, safe WIFI, & cable TV. Both units, like Lanais, are non-smoking and Hale Kona Kai is non-smoking.

PRO: Couldn’t get more “ocean front”. A short walk into Kona town. CON: Needs some love. Shower door wouldn’t move, which according to previous reviews was reported as an issue 6 months prior. There was a strong smell of chemical bug spray.

Ocean front, it should say Ocean edge. Just incredible.

The best view in the area, ocean edge views and sunsets, just made our stay perfect, also dedicated parking sure makes it easier when you return late.

Right on the water, great location.

You look out over the lanai and directly below is the surf. The lanai is also perfect for watching sunsets. Great walking location to restaurants and farmers market. Parking location is very convenient.

Great location for walking and well supplied

I couldn’t have been happier. Will come back and stay here again. Because it was stocked with cooler and snorkeling equipment we were able to explore and try snorkeling for the first time and then we were addicted and did it every day in a new location.

Great Spot!

This property fit my needs wonderfully. It's right on the ocean, walking distance to many shops, restaurants and things to do (including the farmers market.) They also provided many things that made my trip that much easier such as a well stocked kitchen, plenty of towels (both bath towels and beach towels) to minimize the amount of laundry done, beach chairs (the kind you can wear as a backpack,) a cooler, among many other items that do not come with every property. Responses to my (several) inquiries even before booking were quick and accurate as well. I would absolutely return and have already recommended it to friends.

Awesome place and location

Nice clean place with everything you need. The mirror wall makes it look even spacier. The location is great: a beach and restaurants are a couple of minutes away (walking). Safeway and WM are also very close (driving). I worked from there, and the Internet connection was stable and fast. Couldn't make the TV work, but it didn't bother us because we used our laptops. And of course the ocean is right under your balcony is priceless. One day a cruise ship parked right in front of our balcony. Great memories.

Almost perfect

The view was spectacular. The unit was very clean. I would definitely book again, and/or recommend to friends. Two minor points kept it from being 5 star: - the tv in the bedroom was not working properly, & the note explaining was worn & creased, so it obviously was't a new issue; - there was so much 'stuff' in the bedroom closet, I had to remove things just to be able to hang-up a few dresses & shirts. Having to keep the ironing board, laundry basket, as well as my suitcase out on the bedroom floor wasn't great.

Enjoyed Repeatably

We were very happy about coming back to Hale Kona Kai. We have stayed here many times, in 402 particularly now twice in a row. When we enter the unit the cleanliness is as expected. All the things we needed were available in the kitchen including a good knife to prepare meals. Towels, wash cloths, paper products etc. were all available as expected. If I could change anything, I would replace the non-stick fry pans with new ones. Enjoyed the pool and the surrounding area. Keep up on the maintenance, which I see is constantly being done. We definitely feel "at home" here and pray that we can come back again.

Hale Kona Kai 402 - May 1 - May 7, 2018

We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Kona Kai condos the first week in May, 2018. The location was great, walked to the Luau next door at the Royal Kona and were able to walk to town. And with the lanai overlooking the tide pools, waves and turtles, who could ask for anything else. This alone would have given a 5-Star rating. Unfortunately the unit let a lot to be desirable. The furniture was nice and having a kitchen with a dishwasher and full size fridge was nice. The unit as a whole, is in need of some attention. There are signs of corrosion and rust, light bulbs over the sink out, shower could use a good cleaning and the mattress was quite soft. The furniture on the lanai could be better configured - the round table not a good choice. With the four chairs and another accessory table it was quite cramped for just the two of us. Bottom line, the unit could use some TLC. Would we stay at the condos again. Yes, but would probably research other units before making a decision.

Great location, but needs a hug.

The location was great...short walk to town, but far enough away from all the business noise. View from the balcony was amazing, ocean is right in your face. Short walk to a public beach too where you can watch people surf. Pool was nice, water was a little too cold. Used BBQ once and it worked great. Loved the beach chairs, umbrella and cooler...along with other stuff. Bathroom doorknob is in need of repair and bottom of door is splintering. Toilet seat is loose and moved around. To be fair, we were warned central a/c was broken and portable a/c units were in unit. Portable units worked well, but bedroom unit was too noisy to sleep...we ended up buying ear plugs. Not enough supplies for 12 days as far as toilet paper and trash bags. Utensils and small appliances like coffee maker, coffee grinder and toaster need replacement. Coffee grinder broke when we had 3 days left. I called property management twice (2 separate days) to report problem and get a replacement because we couldn't make coffee. No one called back so we gave up. Coffee maker hotplate is very rusty and pieces are falling off. Toaster works but has damaged elements. Teflon pots and pans are so scratched you'd get teflon in your food if you use them, so we bought a brand new one and left it there. Some homeless people camping in cars by complex, but they are not a problem. One day, we heard yelling and profanity...a homeless man and another man were yelling at each other in parking lot. One morning at 5AM, we heard frantic knocking at our door and we got up. Someone wanted in and obviously had the wrong unit...had to yell at them to leave. The unit was clean and reasonably priced with a nice location. The condo unit and the complex is showing it's age and needs updates and some minor fixes to make it truly enjoyable.

Disappointed unfortunately. We were not told up front of the issues of this unit. A sliding door to our ocean view wouldn't open from corrosion, portable loud AC's because central air was broken and a shower door that wouldn't open or close. Unit felt dated and not clean. Future guests deserve better, and problems of this magnitude should be disclosed up front. Our issues were not resolved with Casago management during our stay and disheartening when expectations are not met. A positive note it's locally perfect for walking to the town of Kona and experience the shops and being on the ocean. We stayed at Hale Kona Kai many times years ago and it was great, but needs a lot of TLC now. Sincerely, Dan & Caren

Great location, excellent view, well equipped kitchen, and some very pleasant extra amenities. But the place is very poorly maintained. Rust and corrosion everywhere. Mold in window tracks. The shade on the balcony didn't work - rusted. The warming plate on the coffee maker had a thick layer of rust. Chrome kitchen and bathroom fixtures pitted with corrosion. Little rust spots almost everywhere you looked.Clean? Well maybe. But it certainly didn't look like it.

Oceanfront oasis

This is our fourth visit to this property. My husband and I love the oceanfront lanai and that the bedroom also is on the ocean side so we can hear the ocean all night with the window open. Very conveniently located to walk to restaurants and stores in Kona. The assigned parking space at the property is also ideal for us. Looking forward to our next visit!

Everything about the property was spot on as advertised. Very clean and awesome view...right on the beach!! The one and only thing was the a/c was out. We were notified before we arrived. Nothing could be done due to parts being unavailable. There was a free standing a/c unit put in the bedroom. It was very comfortable, not hot at all, kinda noisy though. Other than the a/c being out, everything was great! Definitely a repeat visit whenever we're over there again. Location is handy to everything that you'd want...shopping, dining, etc. The host discounted our rate by 20% due to the a/c being out. Very kind gesture.

Sunny and Relaxing

We loved hearing the ocean waves from the condo and seeing the colorful fish and a few sea turtles in the water below. It was great to be close to great restaurants, coffee and shopping, and we found some great beaches 30 min or less in both directions. A great location!

Best view in Kona

The location and view were absolutely stunning! I loved listening to the waves every night. I would definitely come back again. There were two problems. 1) The listing said it had air conditioning. This was not true. There was no central air. There was what looked like a portable air conditioning unit in the closet but there was no mention of this in the listing. I picked this unit because it stated they had ac.2) The shower doors were stuck and could not be moved. If you are larger than a size 10 you could not fit into the shower. The first day we were there we notified Casago of these issues but no one called us back. Despite these issues we would definitely pick this place again as the location and view cannot be beat.
