I’m a native Angeleno whose first home was just a few blocks from here and hence, as an LA ex-pat, a very reliable “reviewer.”
THE HOUSE. My wife and I brought our two kids from NYC for 10-days over winter break from college. The house was perfect. Beautifully restored, it has every modern convenience while remaining true to its original 1920’s feel. Windows everywhere provide great natural light. Large flat screen TVs in each room. It’s clean and, despite having anything you could ask for at your fingertips, not even a little bit cluttered. And that kitchen (you’ve seen the pictures) is even better in person. There’s a sweet backyard-get some sun, grill some dinner, or both.
LOCATION. Excellent. Quiet block, no noise from neighbors or passing cars. Easy walk to LA’s past (La Brea tar pits, the orig Farmers Mkt, old Hollywood) and present (the Grove, LACMA, etc). If you’re there on a Sunday, don’t miss the flea market at Fairfax High.
YOUR HOST. Ronnie-a mensch! His priority is to make his guests feel at home. He meets you when you arrive, shows you around, checks if there’s anything else you need and then he’s out the door which, being the original 1924 wood door, is a bit fussy so pay attention when he explains the tricks to locking & unlocking it. You can call him 24/7 w/questions but the next time you see him is when you (sadly) “check out.”
Bottom line? We have found our home away from home. Thanks Ronnie, for everything. We’ll be back.
