A bit of history!
The Porte de Bourgogne is situated at the end of the former Salinières moats, now known as Cours Victor-Hugo (formerly Rue des Fossés), on the site of the former medieval Porte des Salinières. It marks the official entrance to the city on the old road leading to Paris. Tourny wanted it to complement the Place Royale (now the Place de la Bourse) and dedicated it to His Highness the Duke of Burgundy on 24 January 1757.
For a time, it was known as the Porte Napoléon to commemorate the Emperor’s visit to Bordeaux in 1808.
