Das Stonewall Cottage

Dieses abgelegene Haus liegt abseits der Öffentlichkeit und ist in der Nähe von allem, hat aber das Gefühl, dass die Welt eine Meile entfernt ist. Setzen Sie sich auf die Veranda und beobachten Sie, wie die Hirsche auf ihren Spuren wandeln, oder lauschen Sie dem Plätschern des Baches in der Ferne. Eine Meile nördlich des Hauses liegt der Ontariosee mit einem großen Park und kilometerlangen Wanderwegen, einem Angelpier und einem Bootsanleger in der Nähe. Zwei Meilen südlich finden Sie einen weiteren Park mit einem Wanderweg, Angeln und der Schnellstraße nach Rochester oder Weinstraßen. Das berühmte Einkaufszentrum Wegman's Grocery Store und Webster befindet sich direkt neben der Schnellstraße. Die Steinmauern in diesem Cottage sind die ursprünglichen Mauern einer alten Scheune, die meine Großmutter beim Bau ihres Hauses mit einbezog. Es ist bekannt, dass sie nachts in der Küche raschelt. Hab keine Angst !! Oma ist sehr liebevoll und begrüßt alle Besucher!

It all started with our amazing host Wendy. Got us settled in showed us how to feed the deer and was able to come by and help get a heater turned on for us Florida people freezing in the northern New York climate I cannot strongly suggest staying here enough. The character and charm of this cottage is off the charts.

We had a fantastic time at this woodland get away. Feeding the deer and enjoying wildlife in the morning was magical. House is perfect and comfortable. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. It was very nice to have some food staples in the refridgerator. The interior was charming as well as the yard. We enjoyed the deer and our grandson loved feeding and watching them.I do want to mention that the tub drained slow or at times was stopped up. Had to plunge it a couple of times.

Loved our stay

Stonewall Cottage was just as advertised. It was so beautiful with the stone walls and all the antiques. Everything was perfect for us. We stayed with our two dogs and the yard was perfect for walking them. The cottage is close to the lake and Webster's park with hiking trails that we enjoyed with our dogs.

Sweet, cozy and comfy

It was the perfect location for a quiet family weekend trip. Stonewall Cottage is beautifully appointed, well-stocked, and very comfortable. Then there are all these awesome extras, like feeding the neighborhood deer, and the campfire that was ready to go for our use. Thumbs up from us!

We had a very pleasant stay

The cottage was very charming. Loved the antiques and all the tributes to Wendy’s grandmother. Easy to get to shopping areas, restaurants and Lake Ontario We did a lot of biking and enjoyed the proximity to the lake and the Erie Canal trail. We used the cottage as our hub for attending the PGA Championship at Oak Hill, and it was an easy 20 minute drive to the course Very unique opportunity to enjoy nature as we fed and enjoyed the deer and many varieties of birds and even had a coyote walk through the yard one morning

Beautiful home and property

Wendy and her sister (I apologize dont know first name) who met us at the home were very friendly and promply responded. We enjoyed our time and it was great location for us. We had 2 dogs with us who at first night didn't appreciate the deer that come so close but came to live in peace after the first full day and didn't bark too much at them which was great. Cute place more than enough room for others. Looked upstairs but didnt utilize it but is also nice piece of property. Love the family history. Highly recommend if looking for country setting close to many things. Thanks for hosting us!!

Stonewall cabin stay

Was a nice rustic place with a lot of character. The location was great for proximity to my family in the area. I enjoyed my stay there and loved the area and the surroundings. It wasn’t the best place for a longer term stay as it didn’t have laundry and I spent a bunch of time daily having to hand wash dishes as well (in hindsight I should have paid more attention to the list of amenities). There was a disconnect between the owner and myself regarding the pets that I brought with me due to the way the transaction between us occurred, but was still acceptable within the policies she had for the stay. We resolved it between us in the first day, but definitely didn't feel like she let it go. I was very disappointed on how this visit ended as she dropped a surprise damage fee on me that was unwarranted in my opinion and a complete over-reaction / money grab on her part. Bottom line I took great care of her house like it was my own, and left it in outstanding condition upon my departure.

Not for Everyone

While I understand the charm and uniqueness of the cottage my husband and I struggled to enjoy our stay. The darkness of the cottage made it difficult to cook or get ready in the morning. With the rain during our stay the dampness got increasingly worse without a dehumidifier. The beds were very soft and both full sized so we slept apart a few nights because we were not resting well. The ‘welcome’ sign (meant as a joke I assume) had a picture of a gun and referenced trespassing which wasn’t the best welcome late at night when you’re unsure of whether you are at the correct place. The remains of dead pets next to the bed and the personal items throughout also did not feel very welcoming. Wendy was a very communicative host, however we didn’t mention any of these issues to her seeing as they were pretty major things that would be difficult to remedy in the week we were there. The welcome basket, outdoor space and location were wonderful so we tried to focus on that during our stay.

Rebecca, Thank you for your review. My only wish is that you would of just contacted me, either by text or phone call, so I could of addressed your concerns and made your stay a wonderful experience. But, It is a perfect example to future quest as to why I like to greet them when they arrive and show them the house. I did explain my house is like no other and there are things that I needed to show you. Like hidden conveniences. touch lamps, dimmer switches, switch for the lights over the stove, exhaust fan for the home and dehumidifier that was in the foyer where you first walk in the house. As for the the remains you mentioned. I do apologize that upset you. It never came to mind that a quest would take down an ornate box w/gold clasps, high on a hutch, to look inside them. I'm an animal lover, which is why my house is pet friendly. I left my girls where they are (I guess for sentimental reasons) because they grew up there. I will seriously consider taking them down.

Hidden Cottage near the City

Close to magic, the cottage evokes old, charming, blended into nature to the extent that wildlife - birds, deer, chipmunks - are comfortable coming near the front porch, which itself is a pleasant place to spend time surrounded by forest. Yet major stores are a very short drive as is Webster Park and the Lake Ontario shore. The City is a bit further, but not far at all. If the latest appliances, granite countertops, rain shower or jacuzzi, etc. are important to you, this is not the place to stay. The kitchen is equipped with the tools you''ll to cook meals, but there isn't a lot of counterspace. The second bedroom, a loft, is a bit difficult to navigate as the ceiling is low and space tight, but I managed and slept very well. The master bedroom is like a suite, the bathroom a walk-through from the living area to the master bedroom. That said, the walls are stone walls erected in the mid-1800's, the house built with wood cut from timber - I doubt there's plywood or veneer used at all. The cottage itself could be the destination, and we spent more time there than we'd planned because it was relaxing, quiet - except for bullfrogs at night, birds during the day and the road it's off of can be a bit noisy at times, and close to everything while feeling far from it all.. And Wendy, the host, was welcoming, accessible and accommodating.

Christmas in Webster, NY

Last year, we missed out on reserving Stonewall Cottage for our holiday trip to upstate NY. I was determined to keep that from happening again and so very glad I succeeded. Stonewall Cottage is a beautifully quaint place where you can simultaneously be by yourself yet among others. The outside photos in the listing gave me the feeling that it is quite a distance to the neighboring homes but it is not. Yet, we were snug as can be in what feels remote, quiet and away from everything. Wendy does all that is possible to make you feel welcome and at home including decorating for the holiday which we absolutely loved. You step back in time a bit with the antique furnishings which we also loved. The kitchen table is a work of art and history. She has thought of pretty much everything in terms of what she provides for your stay. Unlike other half-empty vacation places where they provide only the bare (and I mean bare) minimum for your comfort, Wendy does the opposite. From the refrigerator staples of eggs, milk and bread to the extra blankets in the living room, plenty of towels, toiletries, and thoughtful holiday treats that she provided, we felt special and at ease. There were even dog bowls for our puppies. It is an older structure but we had no problem achieving comfortable temperatures day or night. We prefer colder temps at night but during the day it was easy to heat the place - and we were there at a bitter cold point of December during the big blizzard just to the west in Buffalo. Wendy's communication is timely. She is easy to reach and attentive. One thing I would change would be access to outlets. In this day of high tech, most people need to charge a handful of electronics on a daily basis and we had to be creative in order be able to charge all of our devices. Other than that, Stonewall Cottage is for anyone who loves feeling cosy and well provided for. Thank you Wendy! We will definitely book this gem of a place again.

Cozy Get-a-Way

Rent Stonewall Cottage and you will find yourself in a secluded piece of nature and history. Wake up each morning greeted by deer, chipmunks, squirrels and birds of all sizes and colors. Enjoy morning coffee on the covered porch or around the fire pit on the surrounding acreage. The rustic interior is both cozy and roomy. When ready to explore the area, Lake Ontario and 800 acre Webster Park are just down the road. The cottage is very near grocery, shopping, restaurants, farmers’ market and Hwy 104, a main corridor to all parts near and far. Wendy is friendly and helpful, a perfect host. We highly recommend Stonewall Cottage as a unique holiday get-a-way.

Rustic but charming

Loved the property, feeding the deer, relaxing on the front porch, and the overall charm. I think no AC would be an issue in the summer. The only other suggestion would be to replace the bed in the master. Barely big enough for two and not comfortable. With that being said, I would still stay again simply for how peaceful and relaxed I felt here! And Wendy is a great host and communicates quickly!!
