This property is excellent for families to share. Every aspect has been detailed out very well including the hike sticks in the front (which our family thought was very thoughtful!). The only thing is the bathroom in the attic suits kids more than adults which means you need to plan your showers accordingly. The host is a pleasure to work with and has put very nice reminders across the property.(Take trash on a specific day near the kitchen trash for example or a reminder to keep shower curtains inside the bath tub etc. in the right area). Lastly there were so many books / material that was available inside the property about Acadia parks which we could use as well! In short, this is how you run a property where families come together and enjoy. Thank you for being such a great host!

We loved our stay at Bobbie’s place in bass harbor! We stayed with a family of 9 ranging from 10-70 in age. We all had so much fun, and felt very comfortable. The kids (10-18) all loved staying together in the attic. It was their own little space with their own bathroom up there. They also had a lovely view of the harbor from their windows. We were worried it would be hot, but with the windows open and fan, they all slept great! I loved the nice, big bathroom on the second floor with lots of natural light. The view from the lawn and family room were wonderful. It was so nice walking downstairs to that every morning. We enjoyed many family game nights. Having the shuttle to bar harbor pick up right next door was very convenient. It was quick and efficient, and nice to avoid the hassle of parking. It’s also a short drive to Acadia mountain trail and echo lake (so beautiful and warm). We were all sad to leave, and would love to stay here again if we make it back up to Maine again!

This is a perfect place for a large family to have space and enjoy each other’s company. It’s near enough to easily visit Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, etc., yet off the beaten path. It is such a quaint cottage and has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. I hope we’ll have the opportunity to visit again!

We had a wonderful time staying at The Harbor View Cottage. The property is spacious, comfortable, and perfectly suited the needs of our group of 9 adults. We had a good four-night stay here while visiting Acadia. The house was spacious and comfortable for our group, everything worked as expected, and we especially enjoyed the large yard and fire pit. The location was convenient as well, with some local attractions within walking distance and easy access to Acadia and the surrounding area.One thing families may want to be aware of is that this is an older wooden house and it is quite creaky and sound carries easily—floors, stairs, and even opening and closing doors can be surprisingly loud. We were traveling with several children, so there was naturally some additional noise as they played. The house also shares a wall with another rental. This is mentioned in the listing, although we hadn't fully appreciated the arrangement when booking.Our only disappointment came after checkout, when we were notified that two sets of twin-bed sheets had stains the cleaners could not remove and that another fitted sheet was missing. The host ultimately disregarded the missing sheet and reduced the original 124 replacement charge for the stained sheet sets to about 90. We understand being responsible for damaged items, although we felt that was a fairly steep replacement cost for two ordinary twin-bed sheet sets.Overall, though, the house served us well and was a spacious and convenient base for our Acadia trip.

This was a great group to host, and we would definitely have them back. Our home has hard-wood floors, so is definitely not as quiet as a newer, carpeted rental would be. As was mentioned, after checkout, our housekeeping found permanent staining on sheets that required replacement. We sent photos to the guest, and submitted a damage-deposit claim through Vrbo. (In our six years of operating as a vacation rental property, we have submitted damage claims only three times.) This was a small matter that was quickly and easily resolved, and we would gladly host this group again.

A beautiful location and view with plenty space. It's an older property with rustic interior and appliances but the location, charm and view are great!!! Easy to get to the park and around the island. Have stayed twice and would return!

We enjoyed a lovely stay at the Bass Harbor home. The home was able to accommodate 8 adults nicely. While we mostly spent our time in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, we did enjoy a nice dinner in the surrounding area and especially enjoyed an early morning walk to Bass Harbor Lighthouse for the sunrise.

Stay in Bass Harbor

Had a great stay in Bass Harbor. The house is in a great location and has plenty of space. My young kids loved it especially the attic! Recommend it if you want to stay somewhere with a true small town feel. The owner was super helpful and very responsive to messages. High marks!

My family has been coming to Mount Desert Island (MDI) since 1991. We love the character of Bass Harbor village--the slower pace of life here, the sound of the bell buoys on the water, and the unique beauty and history of MDI. There really is no place in the world like it!

As my parents have gotten older, the next generation has stepped in to manage our summer vacation home for visitors. Our goal for each of you is to allow you to experience the simple beauty of the island and to fall in love with it, just as we have.

Our house is divided by an interior wall into two separate homes: Harbor View Cottage in the front (this listing) and Bass Harbor Hideaway in the back (vrbo #351747). Harbor View Cottage is larger, more updated, and offers a picturesque view of Bass Harbor from the living room bay window. Bass Harbor Hideaway is less updated, more rustic, and offers a great value for this prime island location.

Bass Harbor is an active fishing village with a mix of vacationers and year-round residents. We love that our side of the island---known as the 'Quiet Side'---is not busy or commercial, but has held onto the original character of the area. Stay with us and you'll discover a true sense of the beauty and slower pace of coastal Maine (away from the tour buses and traffic).

Because our home is right across the street from the harbor, visitors enjoy cool sea breezes and the sounds of bell buoys and fog horns--all things you'd miss with rentals that aren't at the water's edge.

Harbor View Cottage overlooks an active, lobster-fishing harbor, with photo-worthy sunsets right outside the door. Step back in time as the fog rolls in, imagining the area's nautical history, which includes the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and surrounding seafaring community. The Cottage is also walking distance to the Seafood Ketch restaurant.
