Fabulous

Stayed almost two weeks in this sweet cottage, very comfortable! We were able to clean meals, walk to a pub or two , and to Peavoys every morning for coffee and scones! We will be back!

Lovely cottage in a great location!

Lovely little cottage in a great location.Plenty to see and do within an hours drive.The Slieve Bloom mountains and the Glenbarrow waterfall were a highlight and a must see.Giltraps pub was a great find as a watering hole as was Peavoys cafe for a coffee.The village animals 2 cats and a dog were both comical and friendly.Highly recommend a stay in Chris’ cottage in the heart of the underrated midlands of Eire.We will be back!

This cottage was lovely! It was right in the middle of Ireland, so we were able to go on adventures in a different direction every day! Our favourites were Roscrea, Galway, Kilkenny, Birr and Tullamore. The kitchen made it convenient to have meals at home, saving a bit of money and also when we were too tired to go out again after a busy day. Not being from Ireland, there were a few things we needed help figuring out at the cottage, but Chris was super helpful and helped us quickly.

Very central getaway

We booked this property primarily as we wanted to experience rural Ireland as well as being able to visit places further afield. This cottage’s locality did not disappoint. Chris, our host was very friendly and checked on us from time to time but was not overbearing. The cottage itself was quaint and cosy. It had everything we needed although we replaced (and left behind as we couldn’t take home) the bread knife and a sharp paringknife as those provided had been sharpened so much they didn’t cut! Possibly most would not want to prepare meals but we wanted to from time to time. Overall the kitchen was well equipped. The mattresses were a little uncomfortable but that could have been because there were electric blankets on the beds which had ridges of wires running through them. We didn’t really need them at all but didn’t want to take them off the beds. Having said that, the plentiful Irish country air made us tired so we were able to get sleep. The local hostelries were very welcoming and the people very friendly. If it’s a no frills holiday base you want, then O’Briens Cottage is ideal.

Wonderful Cottage in the Slieve Bloom Mountains

Wir haben eine sehr schöne Woche in Kinnitty in den Slieve Bloom Mountins verbracht. Das Haus liegt mitten im Dorf, hat auch einen Garten mit einer schönen Rasenfläche. Im Haus ist alles vorhanden, was man braucht. An der Sauberkeit gab es nichts zu meckern. Eine sehr nette Vermieterin ist für das Haus verantwortlich. Kinnitty liegt recht zentral zwischen Galway und Dublin, im Umkreis gibt es so manches Castle und so manche Abbey zu besichtigen. Für uns war es die richtige Wahl. Vielen Dank für eine schöne Woche.

Schönes Cottage im unterschätzen County Offaly

Schon die Begrüßung durch die Vermieterin Chris O‘Brien war freundlich, und das Cottage selbst ist liebevoll eingerichtet. Die helle, große Küche mit Essplatz und der große Garten haben uns besonders gut gefallen. Unsere Jungen konnten die Mountainbikes nutzen, die Chris uns zur Verfügung gestellt hat. Begeistert waren wir von den bestens ausgeschilderten Wanderwegen (Karten dazu liegen im Cottage aus) und den Mountainbiketrails in den vor der Haustür liegenden Slieve Bloom Mountains. Kinnitty ist ein netter kleiner Ort mit Pubs, Post, Lebensmittelladen und zwei Kirchen. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist vollkommen angemessen und Chris eine sehr hilfsbereite und freundliche Gastgeberin!

Das Haus ist einfach genau wie auf den Bildern. Es hält was es verspricht. Auch der Ort Kinnitty hat viel zu bieten.Die Leute dort sind alle sehr nett und offen. Wifi gibt es leider nur im Haus gegenüber,dass aber jederzeit genutzt werden kann. Und wer braucht schon Internet wenn er die Sleeve Bloom Mountains direkt vor der Haustür hat?! Ausstattung des Hauses ist völlig in Ordnung und die Vermieterin steht einem mit Tipps und Verkehrsregeln tatkräftig zur Seite. Gerne wieder!

Best Memories !

What a nice cottage in the middle of Ireland in a beautiful little village called Kinnitty. The cottage is very cozy with plenty of space inside. There are three bedrooms for up to five guests. You get a nice living rooms with TV and a radio in the kitchen. The kitchen has everything to enjoy your self made meals. Even a washing machine is included for a longer stay. The whole cottage is furnished lovely. We soon felt like being at home. In the village you find two little grocer shops for the things you need in a few minutes and ten minutes by car away is the little town of Birr where you can buy everything in three supermarkets. From Kinnitty you can reach a lot of very interesting places all over Ireland because it is situated very well and so its just not more than 70 to 90 minutes to the coasts by car. And when you come back from your day trip you can relax in one of the two typical Irish pubs in Kinnitty. The closest ist just a five minutes walk away from the cottage. We have had an awesome evening with Irish live-music and songs there on wednesday which we will not forget for the rest of our lives. The band consisted of 14 people of Kinnitty and the villages nearby and even our host Chris was playing the violine in the band. She is a nice person and very helpful with everything. What can I say. We have had a superb stay of about one week in the centre of Ireland and learned to love the amazing Irish landscape and even more the always kind and adorable Irish people. We will return!!!!

Nichts für Familien

Leider waren wir sehr enttäuschd von dem Haus. Es gab kein versprochenes Internet nur in einem seperaten Haus, wo die Gäste ihr Badezimmer hatten und ihre Privatsphäre gerne hätten. Kein wechsel von Handtücher und Bettwäsche. Kein Sateliten Fernsehr. Vermiterin sah man nur am Anfang. Insgesamt nicht für Familien geeignet. Kaum Küchenutensilien. Mühl muste man weit vom Haus weg tragen. Keine Informationen wohin damit nach einer Woche fanden wir es erst raus. Wer einen Abenteuer Urlaub wie im Mittelalter möchte und viel Ruhe haben möchte für den ist das Häuschen was. Die Dusche ein wahrer Horor. Jedoch waren die Betten bequem und von vielen Gästen gab es in den Schränken Lebensmittel so wie Waschutensilien die sie einfach dort gelassen hatten. Wir besuchen seit nun mehr als 21 Jahren Ferienwohnungen aber das war nun wirklich abenteuerlich.

I’m so sorry you did not enjoy your stay at O' Brien’s Cottage. Reading your review it appears you did not read the description of my property before you arrived. As the price reflects, the cottage is budget accommodation. I am very careful to give an accurate description about what is provided in the cottage so that guests will not be disappointed by false expectations. As stated on my description there is no internet at the cottage as there is no broadband in the area, however free internet is provided in a common room which has an attached toilet and shower at the rear of my house just across the road from the cottage. Contrary to what you say this room was not being used by guests who stay in my bed and breakfast. The cottage is not advertised as serviced accommodation but I would have provided you with extra towels and sheets had you requested them. Judging by the amount of food waste you contributed to my bin I am surprised that you state that the kitchen equipment did not meet your requirements. All of the kitchen equipment provided is listed on my description. However as I state on the web-site if there is anything else you require and I have it available I am very happy to provide. You requested a mixer to make a birthday cake for your daughter which I provided as I would if you requested anything else. I have provided separate bins for recycling and ask for plastics to be washed but you did not. Amongst other things I provide are tea coffee sugar, cooking oil, condiments, cleaning materials, washing powder etc and some home baking as a welcome for guests when they arrive. These items are provided for your convenience by me, not by other guests. They are not disposed of after every guest stay. Most guests are very happy not to have to purchase these items, as they usually only require a small amount of them. All perishable foods are removed and disposed of when cleaning the cottage after guests have left. A folder is provided with information on what is to see and do in the local area as well as a map of the area and information leaflets. If you read my home away description on things to see and do both locally and within a 2 hour drive you will find I spent a lot of time gathering information to make guests stay here as interesting and enjoyable as possible. i am also happy to give suggestions. Hopefully the very poor weather you experienced during your stay will not deter you from visiting this beautiful country at another time.

Excellent séjour !

Kinnitty est un charmant village. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié la gentillesse des habitants. Le pub "slieve bloom" est super et la biere brassée par le patron est vraiment tres bonne (pikeman) (meilleure que la Guiness à notre goût). La localisation du cottage est parfaite : cela nous a permis d'effectuer sur la journée nos visites (falaises de moher, rock of cashel, glendalough, galway, cong). Tullamore est proche (charleville castle... Chateau "hanté" 😁). Un grand merci a Christina pour sa bienveillance et sa gentillesse. Nous reviendrons sans aucun doute en Irlande car il y fait vraiment bon vivre !

Kinnitty, the middle of Ireland!

We absolutely loved Kinnitty. This town is the central location for touring Ireland. Our host Christina was marvelous and we only regret missing her play at the local pub as we were away that night. Her home is totally self sufficient and she was a superb host. We loved getting to know Kinnitty and the area. If you are able to hike and enjoy exploring this is an ideal base. The local folks we met in the pub are now our forever friends. We cannot rate this stay any higher A+++. Thanks Christina and thank you Kinnitty. We will be back!

Superb holiday home experience

Exceptional holiday home, a real gem in the hart of Ireland. Beautiful holiday cottage, spotlessly clean with every amenity provided. Decor in keeping with traditional cottage with some beautiful personal touches by the host. Cottage is located within walking distances of all local amenities from pubs, cafe, church and many tourist attractions. Beautiful walks, great cycling routes and brilliant mountain bike tracks for all levels of ability. Ideal location for family holiday as all will be catered for, and within driving distance of Historic Birr town with a wide variety of tourist attractions. Our host Chris was a true lady, very welcoming and very informative about locality and all the activities available. Highly recommend as a place to stay in Kinnitty.
