Rocky Ledge Bunkroom
Get the best of both worlds! Drive 4 miles to downtown Chattanooga to enjoy some of the best restaurants, art and music in the south, and then retreat to our Rocky Ledge Bunkroom on the side of Lookout Mountain. Walk out the front door and onto mountain trails for a 25 minute hike to Glen Falls, and explore the year-round majesty of Lookout Mountain. 5 min. drive to St. Elmo community center, the Incline Railway and a vibrant commercial district. 10 minutes from Rock City and Ruby Falls.
The Bunkroom is an extension of our barn workspace, a 225 sq.ft. room, with a private parking area and entrance. You should really like your travel-companion because the room is outfitted with a full/double bed, not a queen bed. :)
Bunkroom Manual:
• Parking: Dedicated parking is available for 2 cars in the lot just below the barn. The driveway is a little steep so if you have a low clearance vehicle, you'll want to hug the left side of the driveway. Guests will need to be able to climb one flight of stairs (no railing) in order to get to the Bunkroom from the parking area.
• Kitchenette: The kitchenette is equipped with a mini frig, microwave, coffee press, coffee grinder, drip coffee maker and tea kettle.
• Toilet: Please do not flush anything down the toilet aside from toilet paper. We are on a septic system and feminine hygiene products or any other man-made substance will not biodegrade.
• Water: The water from the tap is city water and is safe to drink.
• Thermostat: Feel free to adjust the temperature to your comfort level. The remote is mounted on the wall by the kitchenette. You can point the remote at the unit to adjust the temperature. To change the mode from “heat” to “cool” to “auto,” slide the panel down and press the “mode” button.
• TV: The TV is equipped with Roku TV which offers many viewing options such as Amazon Prime and Netflix. The TV is connected to our Amazon Prime account, so please enjoy anything labeled “Prime,” but any other movie options are prohibited unless you log in to your own personal account to purchase. The TV is on an extendable bracket that allows viewing from the bed or the sitting area.
• Wi-Fi: The network name and password is provided in the Bunkroom binder.
• Safety: We have lived on Glenn Falls for over 12 years now and have never experienced a theft or threat of any kind. Most people don’t know this road exists! However, there are coyotes, bobcats, and even a mountain lion and bear have been spotted in the area so forest-wanderings at night are for the brave of heart.
• Glen Falls Trail: To access the Glen Falls trailhead, walk down the road the way you drove up from St. Elmo, and at the sharp turn right, look ahead into the forest for the trailhead. A landmark for the trailhead is the caged drainage access to the left. Follow the map at the back of this manual to reach Glen Falls (approx. 25 min. hike). There are many trails branching off of the main trail, so we’d recommend snapping a photo of this map and taking it with you.
• Coffee: If you’re not familiar with a coffee press, here are some simple instructions: 1) Scoop 3 - 4 spoonfuls of beans into the coffee grinder 2) Push down the lid until the grinder stops, 3) Pour grounds into french press, add hot water, and set lid on top without pushing down the plunger 4) Wait 3 minutes 5) Push the plunger down to the bottom of carafe 6) Serve and enjoy!
Please don’t use water to clean the coffee grinder. Instead, you may wipe it out with a dry paper towel if you like.
• Chickens: Free-range chickens roam the property and you’re welcome to feed them 1 scoop of scratch grains per day. The container is hanging outside the sliding glass door, labeled “Bird Feed.” Please sprinkle feed in the grass to protect little chicken beaks from hard surfaces.
• Check-out is at 11am. We typically have back-to-back bookings so we appreciate you honoring this request to check out any time before 11am. Please leave the heat on during the winter to avoid freezing pipes, and the AC on during the summer to keep the room cool for future guests. The only other thing we request at check-out is that you text us on your way out. You can leave the door unlocked and key on the table when you leave.
* Any personal care products, cleaning products, or food products are available for your use during your stay with us. We want to invest in a good experience for all our guests, so please leave what you don’t use in the Bunkroom so future guests can also enjoy the same coffee and snacks. Make yourself at home!
The neighborhood:
St. Elmo, is a unique neighborhood - diverse in every way. It is also historic - one of the oldest communities in Chattanooga, formed in 1885. Many of the homes built in the early 20th century remain standing, and just in the past 10 years, there has been an increased interest in revitalizing the neighborhood. Along with new homes being built in vacant lots, there are a lot of old homes undergoing restoration. The 3 houses close to the Bunkroom date back over 100 years.
A little bit about us :
Pete and I live just next door (in the gray house) with our kids. We use our income from vacation rentals to support our work with refugee women in Africa through an organization called Amani ya Juu. At Amani, we empower women through skills training and employment which enables them to provide for their families. So, thank you for your part in supporting our work by staying here! Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
We are passionate about nature, and this location puts us right in the middle of it. Around our home we have seen raccoons, opossums, coyotes, fox, deer, armadillos, bobcats, groundhogs, rabbits, turkeys, box turtles, a mountain lion, and one of our rental guests saw a bear! Our go-to recreation is hiking the many trails around Lookout Mountain, all of which can be accessed right from our property.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
We have not found another place in Chattanooga like what we have found here. The forest, the waterfall, yet still being so close to the city--it is a very special place!
