Located in the peaceful hamlet of Alwinton, this cottage’s wonderful original features have been lovingly retained, with a brand-new wing added to create light and provide even more floor space. It lies in the Coquet Valley, known to visitors, walkers and cyclists for its easy access to many local attractions, including the Cheviot Hills, Harbottle Woods, the Northumberland National Park, and the award-winning Dark Skies Park. Alnwick Castle is also nearby, and the many beaches and seaside villages that Northumberland has to offer are less than one hours’ drive away. The hamlet is home to a historic pub/restaurant with a beer garden, offering the perfect watering hole just a stone’s throw from the property.
The single-storey cottage has a real wow factor. Enter into a small lobby/boot room before stepping through to the open-plan lounge, which has an impressive glass window wall offering breath-taking countryside views. Relax on the sofa or armchair in front of the warming, wood burning stove which is set in a feature fireplace. Here you can enjoy watching the TV, a Blu-ray or DVD, while you’ll also find some good maps if you wish to spend your evenings planning your next outing. The dining area has seating for four, while the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need during your stay; an electric oven and ceramic hob, microwave, fridge with icebox, and even a dishwasher. Step into the impressive master bedroom, which boasts beautiful garden and countryside views. Here you’ll find a super-king-size zip-and-link bed, which can be made into twin beds on request. The second bedroom is a twin, with two single beds, while there is also a third bedroom for a fifth guest. From the lounge enter the bathroom which has a bath with shower over, and WC. Also available for guests with children: travel cot, high chair, bed guard and a fun toy box.
Head outside into the large enclosed garden, where kids will be delighted to find a low level wooden tree/play house, accessed by a short wooden ladder. There’s also a patio area with an outdoor dining table and seating, so you can enjoy an al fresco dinner whilst taking in the view. The shed contains some outdoor games, including garden boules and a croquet set, and you can also store bicycles here. To the front of the property is off-road parking for one car, while additional parking is available on the green opposite, towards the pub.
